In my opinion they get it. It's a good movie, a great movie. BUT the realistate scheme is what drags it down:

"Look, up on the screen! Bryan Singer's long-awaited Superman Returns is a lovingly crafted film, rich with nostalgia but grounded in the present day, a thoroughly modern Superman. Newcomer Brandon Routh fills out the cape and boots quite well, exhibiting some surprising comic timing as Kal-El's nebbishy alter ego Clark Kent, while Kevin Spacey makes for a predictably jaunty Lex Luthor. It's a shame the disjointed plot arcs don't allow them to share the screen more often, and this sort of tangled storyline and misjudgments of scale are Kryptonite to this Superman. The gorgeous cinematography and larger-than-life characters scream "epic," while the retreaded love story and villainous real-estate scam (seriously!) seem like something more suited to a long weekend. Still, when the film lets Superman do his thing, it really flies, with thrilling action sequences and a fanboy's sense of what the Man Of Steel can really do. Maybe next time out, we'll see a hero who spends more time doing and less time wondering if he should."

I agree. Although the "real estate" scheme is relevant and realistic to me in this film. I think this go around however, it was more about POWER and less about $$$. Seeing as how he arleady has the dough.

people have to realize the "real estate" scheme is as close to realistic as possible, than some other "fantastical" scheme.
i mean what else is Lex Luthor gonna do? rob another bank?

LOL...I don't get the rehash complaint, though I think this thread should go there :) So you can join the club.

Not trying to be condescending, but have you ever read a Superman comic or seen the cartoon? Just wondering, since you seem to indicate that the only scheme Lex could come up with is a Real Estate scheme.

no, i'm just saying that it would be a bit too fantastical if Lex did something like blowup the planet or something.
the crystals/realestate thing, i can accept. although it migh nearly be pushing its limits.

For being the obvious person responsible for the deaths of billions while he attempts to sink America to create New Krypton, I would say he'd be shot or arrested even before he'd be making plans to sell real estate. lol He has land, not an army to fight an angered world.

He supposedly had the Kryptonian technology to fight them as he claimed. But we never got to see what it was (likely tied to the knowledge he obtained from Jor-El about the Crystal power).

I'm hoping Lex finally tries to use these defenses for the sequel and it ties to Brainiac.
