E3 2011 - Part 2

So you still need the Wii-U to play? Its basically just streaming the game to the controller, not the controller actually playing the game? That makes more sense.

Yup, Reggie just confirmed that it has to talk to the console, so you can't go wandering around the house playing.

So basically say you're playing a match in Smash Bros 4 and someone wants to use the TV? Is it basically just transferring your Smash Brothers match so they can use the TV?

What's crazy is that controller is going to cost almost as much as the system itself.

I think the system as a whole should be $299 because of the controller, but the controller itself around $100-150.

I wonder if this will render the wii useless. I know the PS2 still survived for a while after PS3 came out, but once it became affordable, PS2 titles dropped significantly.

If the controller is 100-150 dollars a pop. The whole multi-player element of Nintendo is dead. No one is going to be able to afford to play Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, Tekken or any multiplayer games on this thing at that price.

Apparently the hardware comes close to, but fails to match even the 360 let alone the PS3.

Ugh, Skyward Sword looks like every Zelda game ever. Nintendo, you are losing me.

The PS2 still had a steady stream of games released years after the PS3 came out. Yeah it dwindled but it still got multiplatform titles like Madden and Guitar Hero and PSP ports to sustain it. The Wii pretty much has nothing on the horizon, unless Nintendo has some stuff they havent talked about. I dont see 3rd party caring much for the Wii going forward

So basically that tech demo was a repeat of the teaser scene we saw years ago of Link vs Gannondorf. At least Nintendo is clearly learning... what, what?

Aside from the controller, WiiU is everything the wii needed to be from the start.

I'm surprised it still doesn't play DVDs though.

"Wii U? Ew we..."

Hmmm...having fun with this name.

I'll stick to the 360. But, thank you anyways Mr. Nintendo.

I guess I'll grade the press conferences.

Microsoft - D
EA - D

What can I say? Microsoft and EA both showed a bunch of stuff I have no interest in, and they didn't really have any surprises. Microsoft in particular has a huge focus on Kinect, which would have been fine... but those damn actors. NOBODY ACTS LIKE THAT. EVER. STOP IT.

Ubisoft - C

Ubisoft always seems to be a mixed bag, and that was no different this year. However, in between all the awkward weirdness they managed to show a few games that I'm genuinely interested in.

Sony - B

Like Microsoft and EA, Sony didn't really have any surprises, but the entire press conference was very well done, they showed several games I'm interested in and they didn't dwell too long on 3D or motion control gimmickry.

They're not an A because they didn't give one word on The Last Guardian :cmad:, and also because I find it strange that they apologized for the PSN outage, but didn't once mention the massive data theft.

Nintendo - B

Nintendo kept it classy with a live orchestra, payed tribute to Zelda's 25th anniversary, they actually kind of sold me on the 3DS with the games they showed, and while I'm not quite excited about Wii U yet, I'm very, very interested in it.

I think they lose points with me for showing this crazy new hardware, but not doing a live demo. It didn't have to be an actual game, but I really feel like it would have been in their best interest to show something actually running on the hardware.

What would you guys give them?

Where is the better place to watch the live stream: IGN or Gamespot?

I think Gametrailers has been doing fantastic coverage with their livestream. A live Bonus Round is coming up.
