This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]485517[/split]
I'm perfectly fine with the after-credit scene because it continues the same tone in comedy the film had. Plus, I don't really see what other tie-in they could have done beyond the use of Thanos and the Infinity Gem that were already in the main part of the movie without it feeling forced. Plus, we already got the main tie-in to the next Avengers movie with the mid-credit scene from CA: TWS.Agreed. GotG REALLY came out of nowhere for me. I had NO idea I was going to have that much fun watching it until it was over. As a matter of fact, I have no argument with anyone who liked CA:TWS better. Maybe the fact that I was so pleasantly surprised by GotG had something to do with the fact that I rated it (slightly) higher. My low point, as far as how movies were going overall, was late June/early July after watching Transformers. At that point in time, I believed all was lost.......
Edit: The only thing I didn't like about GotG was the after credits scene. I would have much preferred to see some foreshadowing or tie in to the other MCU movies.
^agreed. I can guess why some fans get upset though. Once upon a time I was a much more involved comics fan who thought the titles he read were Very Important and deserved consideration as Real Literature and all that. The truth was I was mostly erecting defenses against people who said things like "dude, you're 23 years old and you still read comic books?" A "joke" character like Howard would have been a death-blow to all my pretensions. Eventually I got over myself and quit worrying about what other people thought about my choices for entertainment.
I was VERY happy to see Howard the Duck in the after-credit scene. He's a fantastic character that had a landmark run back in the 70's, and is overdue for a revival. I'd love to see him show up in more Marvel movies, and maybe eventually have his own movie again.![]()
Howard the Duck is a legend of comic lore. It's great that he's made the jump to modern day and I hope we see him somewhere in GotG2. And welcome to the Hype![]()
so when its all said and done will GOTG stay the number one grossing movie of all movies to come out in 2014 in the US- or will it fall to both Hunger and Hobbit? Even if it does fall to #3 it wont change anything, just personally i love how its the "little engine that could" so to speak. So for u box offe fanatics whats the current projections??
I think you're just about right with everything you said. The only other thing to factor in would be the staying power of those new movies. If they have good legs & can stay where they are it'll cut into the profits of Mockinjay just a bit & could deter it from taking the number #1 spot.
If not then, well, you know.
Yeah, looks like Mockingjay will top Guardians domestically, though not by a lot. FWIW GotG continues to pull in a few bucks at the theaters. It's only about $140k short of $333 million. Again, not a bad run at all.
Even though American Sniper will make 99.9% of its money in 2015, its limited release in 2014 means that it goes on the 2014 box office chart. It currently stands at #20 on the 2014 domestic box office chart and will continue to rapidly move up. It will likely end up as the #1 domestic grosser of 2014, pushing Mockingjay down to #2 and Guardians down to #3.
It's always been standard practice to count films with a limited release in a handful of theaters in December that then go into wide release the following year on the yearly chart of their initial limited release. It's just unusual, and perhaps unprecedented, for a limited December release to go on to make so much money that it becomes the #1 movie of the year.
Yeah, it now looks like it's going to be a close call through to the end. It might end up just a few million short or a few million ahead.I think it's going to be a lot closer than we thought it would be a couple of weeks ago.
After checking out last weekend's Box Office, I'm not so sure anymore. We'll have to see how it does this weekend. If it comes in around $20M, maybe not??? I think it's going to be a lot closer than we thought it would be a couple of weeks ago. Probably ran into that buzzsaw we call the Super Bowl. Now there are some competitive movies on the horizon.....
