The Force Awakens Early Star Wars 7 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 1

Can SW7 recapture the masses like it did for the original?

What are your box office predictions?

Was not aware, the quadruple chin, living Jaba still has some business acumen himself.

Yup, I read on twitter how some hardcore Prequel haters were saying they can't wait to rub it in Lucas' face how well SW7 does at the Boxoffice.

I'm like dude, he'll be laughing all the way to the bank, he's the second biggest shareholder in Disney ffs.

My theater’s IMAX shows were all sold out, but there were plenty of 2D/3D shows available today. They had more than 30 shows going, so there was no shortage of shows.

Alvin and the Chipmunks had 5 shows at our theater today.
Plenty of good seating I hope. I like my arm room. Though to be fair, those I sat next two the last two days were quite polite and really quiet.

We’ve had good luck so far. Fingers crossed so far. This is my first regular 2D show. My nephew can’t do the 3D.

What are the overseas numbers looking like?

Bit exciting. :awesome:

Has he seen the other films? If so, who are his favorite characters?

Definitely! I think I’m actually more excited than he is...

Yes, he’s seen them all. His favorite is R2-D2. My sister wants no spoilers whatsoever, but I did give her a head’s up that R2 isn’t in it as much this time. He’s going to flip over BB-8, though.

His favorite movie was AOTC for awhile...and only just for that arena battle scene, and I think that looks like the level on the Lego Star Wars game that he’ll never let us finish because he likes running around smashing everything.

I’m hoping this cures that...

I'm predicting $275M Domestic Opening, $1B+ Domestic Gross and $3B+ Worldwide Gross. People keep comparing it to Jurassic World, and those estimates kept getting pushed higher and higher through the weekend and still didn't peg the final tally. People are going back to see this film 2, 3, 4 times the first weekend. I'm not sure how much of that was also taking place with JW, but it can't have been anything like The Force Awakens. I'll see it 5-10 times in the theater.

:funny:

He is going to flip for R2's reveal. But yeah, if he loves R2, you have to think he is going to lose his mind over BB-8.

This seems to be a majority reaction. A lot to like yet it is a very shallow film. Overall, good but not great with everyone looking forward to more. Not the greatest action set pieces yet damn cool.

Will it be enough to draw multiple viewings from general audiences? That's the question. Fans will pay to see it over and over again. I'm a casual fan that liked it very much but I don't feel the need to see it again in the cinema.

I don't think I'm going back for a second viewing. I might over the Holidays with family, but really no need to force it. It doesn't have the rewatchability for me.

I thought he sold his shares and gave the money to charity.

Wait... he gave $4b to charity - so maybe he added $2b of his own money to the $2b of the deal and kept the shares?

Reposting my estimates in this thread (estimates I made in the summer, mind you)

Domestic Opening:.....$250,000,000+
Foreign Opening: ......$400,000,000+
Worldwide Opening: ..$650,000,000+

Domestic Total Gross: ...$1,000,000,000+
Foreign Total Gross: .....$2,000,000,000+
Total Worldwide Gross: .$3,000,000,000+

Highest grossing film of all time.

Nope, he still has them, already made over 2.2 billion in profit off them.

George Lucas has made a $2.2 billion paper profit on the Walt Disney stock he received in exchange for the rights to Star Wars thanks to the out performance of the media company’s shares.

Lucas sold his Lucas film group to Disney at the end of 2012, receiving $2.2billion in cash and 37.1 million Disney shares, according to regulatory filings. At the time, Lucas’s Disney shares were worth $1.9billion, giving the deal a total value of $4.1 billion.

But the shares he received are now also worth $4.1 billion, giving the Lucas film deal a total value of approximately $6.3 billion.

Damn good on him. I guess he gave some of his own money away. Wasn't even aware he had an extra $2b to add to the $2b from Disney. Either way, he's made that money back in a matter of three years.

A great deal for Lucas on the stock, but an even better one overall for Disney. Bottom line is the Lucas did very well but if you look at the big picture, Disney ought to be prosecuted. Of course George will continue to profit in a big way by this association. I didn't know about the stock he was given, but that makes it better for everyone involved.

You'll have to tell us how it goes with him and BB-8 and R2's role. :woot:

It does seem that the nature of this weekend is getting caught up, since the matinees are on the lower side. But let's see what the evening brings.

He's gonna be confused at the lack of cgi in a 3015 Star Wars film. It will look like a storyboard to him rather than a finished film!

Yeah, we're on the lower end of some of the deadline estimates from a bit earlier. One set had a top end of $145m for day 1! ;)

watched it thrice already. Might go for a fourth next week.:) this is just awesome family entertainment.
