EcoSalon says gaming is a "Deal Breaker"

I'd say that a woman childish enough to end a relationship based on a completely normal and common hobby is a deal breaker

I love how they send out a message saying "To all of those insulted, we will be making a new article on why gaming is a) awesome and b) not a deal breaker. Fair is fair, right?

They already got screwed with that article and openly admitting that they're making this article just to stop the backlash won't help. Haha. Idiots.

I hate people like this. Since when was gaming ONLY for kids? I don't get that. If they did research they'd see A LOT of people (adults) actually play games. If you choose the right game to play, you can instantly change your mood. I remember during high school, whenever I got stressed, I'd come home, pop in my favorite game of the time, and just play. It was so relaxing and did wonders to keep me calm. I imagine adults doing it, too. Plus, it's fun!

You know why gamers are nerds? Its not because they play video games, its because they get riled up about something as trivial as this and stampede websites and blogs with ******** warbound comments and arguments.

Haha! This!

as if only gamers are a demographic that somehow exclusively does this

allow me to introduce you to the rest of the human race

Yeah, how dare people get insulted when their character is put into question, and their hobbies are scrutinized against! The nerve of some people. :o

This pretty much.

If I was ever with a girl who despised games and judged me because I enjoyed them (Which I wouldn't these days. Been there, done that. Never again.) for some bull**** reason, then I would dump her the moment I found this out, because the relationship would never work for longer than a month or so anyway, if that.

Also, I think it would be pretty interesting to see what percentage of these women have played or currently play stuff like Farmville or Angry Birds or Wii Sports.

tl;dr - No one likes a judgmental c*nt.

You shouldn't define your character by one thing that you do and who cares?

:awesome:

What you call idiocy, I find genius. They were flooded with vulgar, negative, and (let's face it, it's the internet) stupid comments after the article got out, so they turned it around and are asking for intelligently articulated reasons why gaming is awesome and not a deal-breaker. They may not be right, but if this goes the way I'd expect it to, they win.

Gaming is mostly a waste of time. The writing and acting isn't on a par or as sophisticaed compared to the quility movies or tv shows (which they actively attempt to emulate) with a much larger time sync and the gameplay itself beyond simulators and Total War and wii fitness products, as well as a few brain teaser handheld games have no constructive value beyond simple enterainment. When I look at stuff like extra XP for Call Of Duty for buying fatty soda drinks and Dorito's for a hobby that involves has kids sitting on there butt all day playing a mind numbing game, something legal should probably do done, it's not right. All in all if I were female I wouldn't wouldh't waste my time with a male who plays video games.

The irony here just made my face explode.

Eh, most things are a waste of time, even stuff people think have inherent meaning. Life's short, do what you love, and **** everyone else.

Well said.
Games are a medium of entertainment, and thus being judged for enjoying them is a sour pile of bat droppings. Truth be told, I would be concerned if a potential girlfriend was a fan of reality television, than anything else. Now, that is something that kills brain cells, along with anomalies to the gaming paradigm, such as WoW and Black Ops. Anymore, writing in television is dead, and viable material for the silver screen is becoming scarce.

Make no mistake: most video games are not purchased because of the writing. I only buy ones that have a plot: that's why I love "XIII," "Arkham Asylum," "Knights of the Old Republic," as well as "Elder Scrolls." On the whole, I have found shooters to be repetitive and mindless, excluding the aforementioned cell-shaded entry: I enjoy morality based games that stimulate (some) thinking.

Again, I was not offended by the article: I remember in high school that a health teacher claimed that "most games end up becoming drug addicts" and going , "really?"

Amen.

Condemning gaming for making people sit on their butts all day numbing their minds, while simultaneously extolling the virtues of movies and television (which makes people sit on their butts all day numbing their minds).....yeah, how's that work again, exactly.....? :oldrazz:

Spock is right. Doesn't mean you cant enjoy them though.

As for girls not liking gaming, eh what else is new? Ill admit, whenever i have girls over, be it for a party or what not, i hide most of my gaming related stuff. All anyone would see is a lone Xbox and one or 2 games(when in actuality i have like 70, plus a PS3). Now my sister and i do have a kinect and xbox downstairs but when most ppl see that the first thing they say is "omg, can we do the dancing game?"

However, if a girl couldn't be with someone because they play games, well then i say piss off. However if the gaming habit is causing problems, or one is neglecting his/her partner then it deserves to be a deal breaker.

It kind of varies, as I have seen many a female employed at Gamestop who is pretty into gaming. Granted, they're usually extremely nerdy and hipster-ish which kind of feeds into the stereotype, but still...

You'll occasionally see the extremely hot chick into video games, but if it's a celeb it's mostly just for show.

I dunno. If casual gaming is a problem the "deal breaker", then it just sounds like the chick is worried about the wrong things if everything else on the list for her is there, and that's the thing that ruins everything for her.

Also, I don't see the actual difference between a guy who wants to kick back on his couch on the weekends and play games for a couple hours because he's got the free time to do it...to say, a guy who wants to kick back on his couch and watch a couple hours of football on a Sunday because he's got the free time to do it.

One is viewed as a hobby for nerdy people, the other is a hobby viewed as a male bonding experience.

I think this steriotype has to go. Me and my lovely lady have 2 xbox's in the front room with our own tv's as we game together. She works at GAME and is training in computer game design. My sister has been Gameing for about the last 15 years +. My mum, aunt and Gran all have consoles of some description (my aunt wont let her megadrive die) and after all that I have many and I mean many female friends who game. The fact that gaming is one of the biggest industries world wide means there are alot of us, so calling gaming a deal breaker is stupid.

Hell I proposed to my other half on our weekend at Eurogamer as it was a big weekend for us so it cant be all bad. Also not that female table top gamers are on the increase too.

Some of the most popular games in the world are directed at females and generally have a larger audience. Actually, the most popular games in the world, are specifically designed with females in mind.

Wii fit + Wii fit plus - 60 million copies sold
The sims - 16 million copies sold
The sims 2- - 13 million copies sold
Farmville - 100 million accounts
Nintendogs -24 million copies sold

That's totally excluding MMO's.

People should just stop making generic shooters and start making more female games. It makes total sense. When a man is out working hard and the woman is at home breast feeding and stuff, they have more of an opportunity to play video games.

Obviously only someone completely clueless would write an article like that. My wife is amazing (not sure how I got her even!!) and she not only plays games a lot, but she works as a game tester for microsoft. :)

My wife doesnt care that i play games, when i come home from a tough work day, putting on madden 12 mentally relaxes me. I personally have never met a woman that hated or was offended by video Games.
