Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 Astronaut, Says Aliens Helped Prevent Nuclear War

This pretty much says it all:

'None of this is to say that there haven't been some genuinely fascinating and unexplained UFO sightings around nuclear facilities and military bases, but just because a UFO sighting is unexplained, it doesn't follow that it's extraterrestrial.'

I would love to think that aliens helped us out over the years but when you take into account the reality of how large our universe really is (it's truly bigger than humans can grasp) and also take into account how advanced an alien society would need to be to to be able to travel at said universe and find our little rock in space it's almost statistically impossible that it has happened. Much less would they have been coming to and from over the years. Just my thoughts on it anyway

It's plausible. Hell, the Milky Way Galaxy is too large to dig your head in the sand and completely rule out that there isn't the possibility of intelligent life other than our own.

That barely lends any credence to this man's claims, though. A UFO is an unidentified object. What he's doing is identifying it based on conjecture.

I wonder why NASA would waste their time to even respond to this. If he's a nut, let him sound like a nut and be forgotten.

I don't doubt that there is intelligent life in this universe besides us, not at all. But due to the size of the universe I doubt we would ever cross paths

Hey! So what's everyone's opinion on Affleck as Batman?

;)

Yep. To put things in perspective. The galaxy is approximately 100,000 light years across from one side to the other. At the speed of light it would take a space ship 100,000 years to cross it. The MW galaxy is massive. There is so much space and our planet is so small that its entirely possible that no aliens will ever cross our path. Especially if they are traveling at relativistic speeds.

Its also possible that they have at some point far in earth's past prior to homo sapiens and they wrote our planet off as an ice ball or dangerous planet. Its also possible that they came here when we were cave dwelling brutes with clubs. Idk why they would want to even talk to us anyways what with the way we continually stand on the edge of the total destruction of our entire species and continually kill each other. We are a violent and tribalistic species. We have a ways to go before we are mature enought to set at a table with a species that can travel at or beyond light speed.

Speaking of faster than light, its possible that because we are out on an outer spiral of the galaxy that ships just dont come out this way. They may be zipping past our solar system at FTL without knowing we are here.

I don't expect us to make first contact until we get that Mass Relay on Mars working :p

I remember all those missile silo personnel who came forward and said that UFO's buzzed their facilities, and even shut down nuclear missiles. First I've heard of missiles being shot down though.

Smokes some Willie Nelson stash.

What if Nolan was right tho? ALiens using worm holes and all that jazz. I want to sit next to Anne. But if aliens did come forward, I'd imagine folks like Trump trying to rally and destroy them. That South Park episode is right.

This assumes the aliens have found no way to "cheat". Warp drives, wormholes, artificial gravity, etcetera. And that's just stuff we 21st century have thought up (in the 20th century). Or that aliens don't live down the interstellar block, which we have no way of knowing.

There's nothing saying aliens aren't currently watching us from the relative safety of say, the dark side of the Moon, or a base on Mars. Well, not literally watching us, but you know what I mean. It's not hard to hide from us, given how blind we are. I mean, hell, we lose track of giant ships and planes on our own planetary surface, who aren't trying to stay hidden.

Speaking of faster than light, its possible that because we are out on an outer spiral of the galaxy that ships just dont come out this way. They may be zipping past our solar system at FTL without knowing we are here.

I suppose the reason why I disagree with this position so strongly, is because we humans have such a limited understanding / access to the universe we inhabit. I mean, we didn't even know our neighboring star system had a planet, until what? Two, three years ago?

There could be an Earth-like planet orbiting Tau Ceti (a Solar analog) with aliens tuning into our music from 2003. It's only 12 lightyears away. Peanuts on an interstellar scale. They'll only now be learning that Fox cancelled Firefly.

We have no way of even ruling that out. That is how blind we are.

At what point did UFO start to automatically mean alien spacecraft?
