Action-Adventure Edgar Wright's BABY DRIVER

Perfection is not enough for Kane apparently. :o

Baby Driver is at 200.36 million World-Wide. The world-wide total on BOM is not updated with the latest Chinese figures but BD has collected 15.5 million from there so far. Baby Driver is Wright's most successful movie by a long shot. Domestically it has reached 104.4 million and it can reach (105-106) million at the end of it's run. Which will mean the movie will likely finish with a multiplier of 3.6 (the movie opened on a Wednesday, so this is a special case). That is extremely good.

Previous Edgar Wright movies at the BO:

1> Shaun of the Dead - 13.5 million (DOM) & 16.5 million (OS)

2> Hot Fuzz - 23.6 million (DOM) & 57 million (OS)

3> Scott Pilgrim - 31.5 million (DOM) & 16.1 million (OS)

4> The World's End - 26 million (DOM) & 20 million (OS)

So Baby Driver is easily Wright's big commercial and mainstream breakthrough. Baby Driver is very likely to gross 6 times the production budget (the budget which is 34 million on BOM). This is great for Wright and a resounding hit for Sony.

Rewatching this film makes me appreciate it even more.

Hamm stood out even more for me. Amazing performance really. Could be villain of the year. There are multiple layers to him and whilst he isn't exactly sympathetic, there is a tragedy to him and he seems like he could've been a good person.

The irony of him ending up being the one after Baby is that before that he's basically the one who's the nicest to him. It gives it more effect later, IMO, that he seems to genuinely like Baby at first and generally be an affable enough guy, apart from being a hardened criminal.

Yep, Edgar Wright did a great job with the characters and their unexpected twists and turns.

That's what I loved about this movie, you expected characters to be one thing and hey ended up being something else, it was superbly done.

Exactly. It was far from predictable, and Wright managed to build lots of suspense. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire movie (and not just because of the superb and exciting action and chase scenes).

Man, I loved this movie so much, it has become an instanct classic for me. I can't wait to own this baby on Blu-Ray!

P.S.: I fell in love with Lily James! :ilv:

Couldn't agree more with all of this. And I did the same with Lily James :ilv:.

I had no clue what this was until the other day, some clips came up in my YouTube recommended. I caught the opening scene, it looked pretty fun; it vaguely reminds me of The Transporter. Is it still worth watching the full movie even if I know the ending? I also saw the end fight, so I kind of know what happens...

There are tons of fun scenes throughout the whole movie, so it's definitely worth watching. I don't usually like Jamie Foxx's shtick but have to admit he had some hilarious scenes which added to it too.

Absolutely.

Why would you watch the ending to an Edgar Wright movie on YouTube? SMH...

Very happy to report this stands up to repeat viewings, ad then some. I may have even enjoyed it even more, great film.

Same. It’s one of those movies I can get sucked into anytime.

I think all of Wright's movies have that effect. But Baby Driver even more so, the story and characters are just done so well you can't help but get invested.

I really liked Buddy.

Yeah but now every time you see Kevin Spacey, it ruins it a little bit. Especially after Bernthal’s comments about him on the set.

He said he was a bully on set and he lost a lot of respect for him after actually meeting him in person.

I finally watched this Sunday morning on Blu-Ray with the wife. She was surprised she liked it (Lily and Ansel's chemistry FTW). It dragged a little in the middle. I could have used about 20-30 min off the film, but it definitely is a standout for the year.

That’s a shame, I used to really like Spacey and liked his character in this.

Bernthal should have been in it more as well.
