I'm currently writing a short essay discussing this topic:

Current funding for British universities is insufficient to sustain high quality teaching and research able to compete with teaching and research in American universities. To combat this threat to British higher education, universities should be able to charge tuition fees that better reflect both universities’ economic needs and the cost of quality higher education.

I know very little about how the system in America works and what it is like in real life. From the research I have done it is considerably more expensive to study in the USA compared to the UK and it claims to have much better quality of teaching/facilities.

Just wondered from the perspective of you guys across the pond that actually use the system, and not from the mouth of University sites trying to attract students; is it worth it?

Do you feel American Colleges are worth the money? Do they have amazing facilities and is the qualification you earn at the end of it all worth more depending on the price you paid to study i.e. from going to a better college?

Bah, you guys are no help!

I went to college.

Wasn't worth the money.

I want to sue them now.

I suspect that people who need college to go into their career field (lawyers, teachers, etc.) will find it mostly worthwhile.

I'm currently taking General Education courses in my first year of college, and I don't think it will have necessarily "improved" my life anymore than just graduating high school would have. College is very much like high school, except a few hours shorter and the teachers swear.

For the price they charge for an education in the U.S. it certainly doesn't seem to be paying off.

90% of American college is going out to parties and getting drunk.

I heard American college girls are real awesome!

My buddy went to spring break in Florida, apparently fun was had by all.

American Colleges are only worth the money because American employeers very rarely hire anyone for well paying jobs unless that have some sort of degree.

more like 95% should see all the beer cans/bottles all over the front yard and in garbage cans when I drive through Kent

It's the same over here and I assume most places. Wouldn't it be cheaper to study abroad? Or do American employers want American degrees?
