Just a random thought here that popped into my mind, after too much pizza.

We know that the Cap sequel lists the name of his (assumed) main villain, right? "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

What if there's a new naming convention for at least some of the Phase II movies? Thor is subtitled "The Dark World," we know; and conventional wisdom assumes that it's some reference to the Dark Elves, since we know Malekith will be *at least* one of the villains.

But I think people are greatly overinflating the importance of the Dark Elves in this movie. The casting call for extras seems to indicate a whole host of traditional Thor races, including (possibly, from descriptions) Fire Demons, Frost Giants, Rock Trolls and Valkyries. And now comes news that Alice Krige has a small role that seems to have her heavily made up, possibly in prosthetics. All this tends to indicate that Dark Elves are just *one* piece of the puzzle. And we know from the earliest reports about this movie that it's about Thor and Jane Foster journeying through the Nine Worlds.

Anyway, here's the thing: what if "The Dark World" subtitle doesn't have anything to do with Dark Elves? (I'm positive it doesn't. Doesn't even make sense.....the Dark Elves don't live in a "dark world," anyway.) And what if "The Dark World" is actually a naming convention similar to CA:TWS?

Thor certainly has a nemesis who would qualify as "the dark world." That is: Ego, the Living Planet.

That would explain why there hasn't been any major casting news beyond Eccleston as Malekith; certainly, you don't "cast" for a living planet.

I firmly believe that the Thor sequel is actually going to have *multiple* cosmic Thor villains, and is going to involve an actual tour de force of at least some of the Nine Realms of Norse mythology. When it's all said and done, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see cameos from several of Thor's biggest rivals, especially those that are most likely to be CGI constructs rather than actual actors/actresses. That could include Surtur, Ymir, The Midgard Serpent, Fenris Wolf, Ulik, Kurse, and, ultimately.....

....Ego: The Living Planet. The Dark World.

That would be amazing, I would certainly love to see Thor com face to face with Ego in the MCU.

They would definately have to boost Thor's power level up as well as showcasing his ability to travel through unaided

Ego would be awesome!! However I like how the picked Malekith... It was rather unexpected and I feel they could make a good story with him... The story is however, once again, going to involve the casket

I think they should cast Planet Earth as Ego. It's been in way more movies than any other planetary actor. Mars has had some exposure lately, but you really gotta go with the best talent available.

Yeah we know it's unlikely Chewy, but you gotta admit it would be badass.

Why is it unlikely?
Ego is a major Thor villain; Ego is, literally, A Dark World; and we wouldn't have heard about casting because all of that would be handled by NASA. Or something.

I wouldn't see Ego in the literal comic book sense, of some planet with a genuine big-ass face on it shouting taunts at Thor; but I don't think audiences would have any trouble buying into the idea of an actual sentient planet. It's become a fairly commonplace theme in SF, most recently in Avatar. Just think of Pandora without the hippie feel-good vibe, and instead a murdering malevolence for a persona. Bam. There ya go.

I try not to debate over hypothetical nowdays, so just wait until more info about Thor 2 is released and you'll see.

Maybe Ego might show up, but I don't think he will. Here are some cool scans with him vs. Galactus, though.

No. That planets too unlikeable.

Choose Pluto! It's had a rough time of it lately and it'll be great to organise it's comeback!

I actually thought about this recently. I LOVE this idea.

More than likely. But then, if Ego IS involved, I wonder how he will be worked into it. This is some good thinking on Sam's part.

EXACTLY The living planet, not that it speaks, or has a face, but just like Pandora. It is alive in the same sense that a plant is alive. It Can physically move things on its surface, create certain weather patterns at will, natural disasters, tthings like that.

Totally could work. In fact, if that is the case, I would actually really be looking forward to it

Makes me wonder how Del torro would represent Hulk on the TV show he wants to do for some reason lol

They'll never reuse any planet that was in John Carter. :oldrazz:

Nah. "The Dark Dwarf World" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Actually, I heard Earth was cast as Mars in John Carter. But it was most likely just a paycheck job.

What if Malekith and the Dark Elves live on Ego? No need for a cosmic tour-de-force. Safe it for Thor 3.

Maybe Malekith will open some portal/power source that unleashes Ego upon the nine realms? Thats a whole lot of purple for one movie... can anyone say Space Gem?

^ I LOVE that movie, always have and always will. :hrt:

Bump. Also, just found this! pretty awesome... :D

I TALK TO PLANETS, BABY!

Love it. There's the theme song....book it. I'd give my left eyetooth (whatever the **** that is) for Monster Magnet to be on the Thor soundtrack.

I'd also use Space Lord for Thanos' theme song. :woot:

Great ODINS RAVEN yes.

imagine Thor in the final scene, destroying Ego and the planet starts to crumble and he has to run to escape and Monster Magnet starts playing as he's fighting off the various terrifying creatures that inhabit The Living Planet's surface. *wu-tung* *spung* *crunch* (Mjolnir sound effects)

I just got shivers.

Sentient planets?

God no. Hated similar concepts like that Galactus crap from FF and whatever that poop thing was in GL. These huge colossal planet devouring things aren't nearly as fun as a true bad ass villain the protagonist can have an actual one-on-one fight with.

Happy with Malekith & Kurse.

Planet-munching gas clouds aren't the same thing as sentient planets. Again, it's like Pandora from Avatar, only evil.

And I'm really, really not feeling *just* Malekith and Kurse....there has to be more. There's nothing cinematic or even remotely threatening about fey Dark Elves prancing around the God of Thunder. Kurse and the Dark Elves were a boring cakewalk in Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and they will be in this movie, too, if there's not something significantly more menacing to close the deal in the end.

Dude, Thor's fight with Kurse better be SUPER epic and destructive as ****!
