Fantasy Elden Ring film reportedly in the works from Alex Garland/A24

I don’t know. Making a movie out of a Souldborne games feels like making a book based on a David Lynch movie. Or a television show based on Book of the New Sun. These are works that can only work in the medium they were created for.

I don't think its advisable to make. At all. But the way to do it would be to go very abstract, quiet and weird with it.

PS: Nice to hear some Book of the New Sun love.

Even if this somehow gets made, I doubt...in fact I'll say it won't retain the mystery and discovery that makes the game special. It'll just be a linear retelling of Radahn's story or something.

Will we see the hero constantly dying with the words "you died" popping up on the movie screen? :o

They seem to have pulled out the article. The link is now broken. It seemed too good to be true.

I saw people acting like this dude didn't make Annihilation and Ex Machina lol such strange reactions to this from across the interwebs.

Civil War, and especially a lot of his comments about Civil War, has turned opinion against him.

Oh I know why they're being that way. It's just a boring way of engaging with this stuff imo. Civil War is a solid flick. People seemed to want from it what it wasn't even trying to speak on and lambasted it for it. I didn't pay attention to his comments on it at all though. People were acting like he shot their dog and I peaced out on that.

Garland had some weird moments and comments, let alone the thank you choices in the credits for civil war, but it is fascinating how it’s completely not about what people think it’s about.

He’s maybe the best filmmaker in the genre space right now, imo. Despite my… questions about what exactly his politics are. Even Men which people clown on I like better than basically every elevated A24 metaphorror of comparable style people glaze.

Makes me wonder why the article was removed then?

I really want this to happen because just imagine how insane the popcorn buckets for this would be.

The hero will also constantly need to be rolling to evade certain death.

Garland doesn't miss. Hope it's true.

Well, damn.

Civil War aside, Garland does feel like the perfect director for this. Bravo.

Glad it's actually true and very curious how he's going to deliver in such a huge film. A24 entering the blockbuster road is another reason why I'm really excited for this. I absolutely loved Civil War personally. His one and only true misfire for me was Men and even that had redeeming qualities, especially visually.

Yeah, Men was interesting I just don’t understand what the ending meant for the life of me. But it certainly had… interesting visuals and strong performances.

Anyway, I have to say it feels like we’re finally in the era of GOOD video game adaptations. Elden Ring gets a great director and studio behind in. The Last of Us season 2 has been one of the best seasons of TV I have EVER seen for any show. Fallout season 1 was amazing and easily my favorite game adaptation so far. Castlevania had two great animated shows. I don’t care for the Sonic movies but they’ve obviously been successful, as has Minecraft. And I honestly really enjoyed Super Mario Bros. Hopefully Zelda will be good too.

Now just give me my Skyrim movie!

A24 landing Death Stranding and Elden Ring is quite something. Can't help but wonder what sort of scope we're looking at here. A faithful adaptation of the game narrative would be... expensive, to say the least.
