The Amazing Spider-Man Elena Satine:Front Runner for MJ?

MJ might not be Peter's first love, and it might even be more interesting to use Gwen in a movie, but MJ has become the classic love interest, and that is whom the public know too. She is to Peter what Lois Lane is to Clark Kent. In a Superman film (although it has been done in Smallville), it might be interesting to have Lana as the main love interest and explore her relationship with Clark, but the public are expecting to see Lois. The general public know Lois as Clark's woman, but not everyone knows Lana. To a similar extent, that is the same with Mary Jane, so there is a certain level of expectation, and something less might affect the box office returns. Comics are like the modern equivalent of Greek Myths. We expect to see Paris fall for Helen of Troy and not some other girl first, and we expect to see Achilles shot by an arrow into his heel. These reboots are just alternate retellings of the same myth, so to have Gwen as the love interest, while fine in the comics, might not fly so well with the movie-going public.

I could get behind this.

N/B please no dirty jokes.

I'd much prefer to use Gwen first too.

And jeez, am I the only one who liked Dunst as MJ in SM1? I mean she really was alot like MJ to me. Sexy too. Sexy for about that film only I mean. I mean come on, all of you were looking at her rack in the rain scene. Don't deny it.

Even so, Superman III used Lana Lang. Smallville used Lana Lang as the main love for most of the show. Superman outside of the comic medium has used Lana Lang. The Batman series didn't dedicate ALL the films to Vale. The public wouldn't care if MJ wasn't the main girl. The public goes to see Spider-Man. All other characters are secondary.

I get that MJ was the choice for Raimi's film, and it worked for his narrative, but why is it that everyone is so enamored with her that Gwen anymore exists just to die? SSM did a good job juggling the 2 characters, but that is so far the only place outside the comics to actually use Gwen as more than a glorified cameo. Plus, like I said, it would be a great way to distinguish the series from the past. While this doesn't ruin the movie for me, I do think this is a wasted opportunity and disappointing. Even if MJ is actually hot this time.

She went downhill looks wise post-SM1, though. This I agree with anti-Dunst people on. I am not saying I hated her MJ at all, but I do concede she didn't define the role either and can be trumped.

I also liked her in the first Spider-Man, wig and all. I didn't like her in the second and third films because she became whiney and wasn't like the character we know from the comics, plus MJ is supposed to be a red head not a dirty blond/light red haired type. I prefer the wig with the strong red coloring, maybe i'm biased though since I have a thing for red heads to begin with. :woot:

As for this Elena Satine, I don't think i've ever seen her act before but if she can act well then I wouldn't mind her in the role. Looks a lot better than Dunst.

wow, she would be an excellent choice. I'm glad they're casting older

Agreed Figs and Spider-Fan. I liked her well enough in SM1. And I did find her very attractive. But her looks weren't there in the sequels. She can definitely be replaced. Although I kind of liked the idea of the more grounded portrayal of MJ, and not a smoking hot bombshell. That's just what I think.

She was alright in SM2. Her character was growing and I didn't mind that. I think it was just Dunst's performance.

In the first she was spunky and had that right attitude. In the second, she wanted to move on with her life. I can say it's logical. You can't make her have the same exact attitude with her and Peter after the first. Peter rejected her, s onaturally, she would act like that and she was confused and agravated with Peter because she didn't know what was happening. I had no problem with that characterization.

You guys need to give up on hard on for classic Gwen, Raimi did Classic Spider-Man

this film will be a combination of Ultimate / Spectacular most likely,
the best case scenario is

Peter and M.J. are best friends, M.J. has feelings for him, but like most scientist is clueless when it comes to true love, enter Ultimate Gwen Stacy as the flashy thing that catches his eye.

Sony is said to want to do a twilight love triangle situation

That's actually what I really want in the next film. That's how i've always looked at her in the comics and with Raimi's films I think we got a more grounded version where she may have been popular at school and attractive(1st film of course)but she wasn't the sexy, confident model from the comics.

in SM1 dunst looed good, in SM2 she'd let herself go, BADLY. her boobs looked like pancakes and not the nice pancakes you get in haagen dazs either.

It's gonna be hard to find a hot bombshell who can act. If this chick is it, we'll see what happens. But there's gotta be more names that we haven't heard yet. They might come out of the blue who knows. But I ain't counting on hiring someone with Megan Fox looks. Because MJ in the comics is pretty much the equivelant of Fox in the real world. But unfortunately, I can't think of anyone that hot who can act. MJ deserves a great actress. And I'd be cool if things fell into place. But I'm not going to be surprised when she isn't up to standards. I just think we should lower them. Cross your fingers she is hot as hell, but pray that she can act.

I don't expect them to find someone like Megan Fox, nor do I want them too because as you said, how many women that attractive can actually act well. I'm sure there are some of course but I haven't seen that many.

What I want in a bombshell isn't just in the actress's looks but in how they portray her in the film. I want her dressing a bit sexy and hopefully going the model route as well as being confident and more "frisky" with Peter if you know what I mean.

Dunst just ended up becoming victim of randomly becoming a stick figure. I am not sure if I am alone on this, but I don't like women to be too thin. I prefer a woman that is not afraid of a sandwich. After SM1, Dunst's entire figure changed, and I think that is a big reason for her drop in attractiveness. That and the natural red hair she tried didn't look as good.

I'm hoping whoever gets the role is not a glorified model, also. That is one thing that bugs me in M casting threads. We get a million models suggested, and that is not how you get good characters. Just watch Twilight and see what getting not real actors leads to.

Maybe I've been brainwashed by the Raimi movies, but she almost seems TOO hot, especially to be interested in Andrew Garfield. I've been thinking about Rooney Mara (from Nightmare On Elm Street) for MJ...

It would be even more unrealistic if she fell for Tobey.

Wouldn't it make sense to differentiate itself from the previous films?

This is what makes the most sense.

Gwen Stacey as the first main love interest and Mary Jane as friends, first. They are BOTH in the first film. Gwen Stacey dies in a later film, Mary Jane, grows from friend to love interest. This would be a nice full circle, as people know and would sorta anticipate Mary Jane to be the main love of Peter Parker.

Think people, just think, please.

Couldnt agree more. Gwen should be murdered by GG at the finale of the second movie... And this should be the very last moment of the movie...

Well anything and anyone is better than Kirsten.

All this crap about not casting an actress for MJ that is too hot is a joke. MJ is supposed to be smokin' hot, a definitive sex symbol. Her attraction and relationship with Peter has always at times been the subject of question, so why should it be a problem in a movie. So many people hating on Dunst but based on the criterias some of you are going on, she was damn near perfect casting. The real issue most of you have is the way she was written. Doesn't matter how hot or ugly the MJ character is, if she's written badly then it'll show.

the fact mj came across as vapid and whiney was the writers fault. if the new MJ is writen to be annoying she will BE annoying regardless of how hot she is.

blame dunst (or rather her parents) for her looks, blame the writers for her personality.

THIS shows why we need a GREAT ACTRESS as Mary Jane. Such scene like that would be awesome in a movie and it needs to be delivered PERFECT for it to work.

Yet, even if you can blame Dunst for some of her looks, the studio has guys responsible for makeup, hair, clothes and such things. In Spider-Man 1 she looked great imo. But in Spider-Man 2 and 3 it went straight downhill but I don't think it's really all her own fault. She looks good in other movies that's been made after these Spider-Man movies.

And if she's not hot enough for being Mary Jane (which I agree on, definitely) then Raimi and the studio shouldn't have cast her, so it's not really her we should blame. Not as much as some people do, at least.
