It's not so much about whether an actress looks hot enough for Mary Jane as whether they look like Mary Jane. Angelina Jolie, Olga Kurylenko, Alice Eve... they're all considered hot (and picked at random here), yet none are any more suitable for MJ than Dunst. Dunst isn't ugly, that's for sure, but in Raimi's Spider-Man, Peter was dating that chick from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, or Wimbledon, or How to lose friends and alienate people, not MJ.

the fact mj came across as vapid and whiney was the writers fault. if the new MJ is writen to be annoying she will BE annoying regardless of how hot she is.

blame dunst (or rather her parents) for her looks, blame the writers for her personality.

I get that; its just that people are saying that MJ cant be too hot in the movies because its not realistic, which I think is BS and if people are looking for a cute actress at best, Dunst I suppose sufficed.

Dunst and Maguire looked well suited for each other, there was nothing post the 2nd half of sm1 to suggest purely on looks that she was out of his league.

Cherry-picking works both ways. The point is she isn't that attractive (not to mention a terrible actress). And like you said, MJ should be out of this world hot. Which is what makes it cool when the dorky guy gets her. ...

I don't think Kirsten is ugly. Super hot, no. But she is not ugly. If she offered herself to me in real life, even if she wasn't famous, I'd hit it.

It's not a matter of what fanboys would hit. It's a matter of what is Hollywood hot. Lot of posters here feel they have to defend Dunst or Emma Stone and other so so actresses because they are 10X better than what we usually hit in real life, but I think we can put our standards aside for this ****.

I know it's not a factor in choosing the actress for MJ here for Sony, but once Mary Jane was possessed by the spirit of Red Sonja in the comics and became that she-barbarian. Can anyone imagine Kirsten Dunst doing that? The answer is NO. Elena Satine, on the other hand, could look like either character.
