The “Juno” thesp is in negotiations to star in the spy action pic “Queen & Country” for Fox.
Based on the comic book by Greg Rucka, the story follows Tara Chace, a British Intelligence agent who tries to stop an international terrorist plot after her identity is compromised and as her personal demons spiral out of control.
Peter Chernin is producing through his Chernin Entertainment banner, along with Jenno Topping. John Rogers is penning the script.
Sources tell Variety that Fox had long wanted give Page a franchise after working with the young actress in various Fox and Fox Searchlight projects. This property gives Page that and could do for Page what the Jason Bourne franchise did to lift Matt Damon’s profile.
This latest project fills a slate that is continuing to keep Page busy through the next year. She is also attached to star and produce “Freeheld,” the drama based on the documentary of domestic partners Stacie Andree and Laurel Hester who struggled to secure pension benefits after Hester was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Page will also appear in the motion capture video game “Beyond” that bows Oct. 8 for the Sony PlayStation console.
Page can currently be seen in the Lynn Shelton pic “Touchy Feely” with Scoot McNairy and Rosemarie DeWitt and was also recently seen in the Fox Searchlight pic, “The East.” She is repped by WME, Vie Entertainment and Barnes Morris Klein Mark & Yorn.

Interesting choice, she's physically different from the character in the comics, but she's a fantastic actress, so I don't really care about her appearance.

I know I'm going to get hammered for this...as I have every other time I've brought this up...but there is a forum specifically for Misc Comics Movies.

I know, I know "more people will see it here" and "it doesn't really count as a comic because there are no superheroes" but I stand firm that a movie that is based on a comic not published by Marvel or DC is a Misc Comic Movie.

I read the comic and loved it! That was a couple of years ago though. Isn't the character meant to be british, hence the name?

I love Ellen though so I'm okay with this. She's really good at juggling!

Yes, the character is British. Ellen is Canadian if I remember correctly, which was a British colony. If she can pull off the mannerisms, or a halfway decent accent, then she'll be fine.

Half of Africa was also British colonies.

However, Queen Elizabeth II is also Queen of Canada so the character might be adjusted.

Or she could act like she was from the UK based on acting skill, not her nationality.

Exactly, she's a really talented actress and I'm confident that she can pull it off.

She'll be fine. I think certain UK movie geeks need to take the stick out of their arse sometimes when it comes to non-Brits playing British roles with British accents.

Which British movie geeks have moaned about her being cast? The person who brought up the fact that he character is British was an Australian...

It seems that every time an American (or more rarely a Canadian) is cast in a British role, there's always a small but vocal chorus that always starts whining that there's no way they can speak the accent properly.

Not that most English actors really pull off American ones (McAvoy especially is terrible at it). They usually fair better than Australian actors for whatever reason though.

Can't really complain, the top 4 comic book heroes on DVD right now (Batman, Superman, Spider Man and Rick Grimes) are played by Brits, and nobody's complaining.

It will be interesting to see Page in a role like this. It doesn't matter that she isn't British because she can do what actors are paid to do, act like another person and that includes accents.

20th Century Fox has hired Olivia Milch to re-write the script for spy thriller “Queen & Country” starring Ellen Page.

The news suggests the film is one step closer to making it to production with the studio also hiring director Craig Viveiros in recent weeks to helm the pic. Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are producing via their Chernin Entertainment banner.

Based on the Eisner award winning graphic novel of the same name by Greg Rucka, the story centers on Tara Chace, a top British intelligence agent who is used as bait to draw out an international terrorist after an attack in London.

John Rogers penned the original script. David Ready will oversee production for Chernin.

Sources tell Variety that Fox had long wanted give Page a franchise after working with the young actress in various Fox and Fox Searchlight projects, including the 2007 breakout smash “Juno.”

Milch is becoming the go to girl when it comes to taking on material with strong women at the forefront. Milch, who is repped by ICM Partners and Mosaic, most recently penned Sony’s adaptation of “Little Women.”

Page is a fantastic young actress, but can she pull off a British accent? ;)

Ridley Scott in Talks to Direct 'Queen & Country' for Fox

Ridley Scott is ready to get himself into the world of espionage.

The filmmaker is in talks to direct 20th Century Fox's graphic novel adaptation Queen & Country, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Scott would come on to produce with Chernin Entertainment if the deal closes.

The comic book series from Greg Rucka centers on a British SOS operative named Tara Chace, whose identity is compromised following an assassination. The series ran for 32 issues from 2001-07 at Oni Press, and won an Eisner Award for best new series in 2002.

Ellen Page was attached to star as Chace post-2007’s “Juno,” and commercials director Craig Viveiros at one time was attached to direct. Neither is still connected to the project.
