Emergency rescue effort is launched for teen sailor Abby Sunderland

I'm glad they found her. I would have hated to hear about how the weather started getting rough. Then her tiny ship was tossed. But no, if not for the courage of the fearless crew, her ship would have been lost. With no Ginger or Mary Ann, it would have sucked.

Bet her parents are so scared right now. How could they let their 16-year old do something like that alone?

That's the whole point. Anyway the brother got to do it, so it's only fair. Hopefully she's ok.

I don't see how everyone is so upset about the fact that they let their daughter do this. The article already cited two other people who did it around the same age. I don't see that the parents did anything that was neglectful anymore than letting 16 year old's drive cars.

Driving on the interstate is a little different from sailing a boat in the Indian ocean. Jaws don't swim down I-75

Thank God she's okay. Hopefully her parents aren't so stupid to let her try anything like this for a long while.

Though be honest, if your parents were like, "you can sail around the world by yourself" when you were that age, would you have been like, "no?"

Glad she's okay. I guess my LOST island theory didn't pan out. I miss that show. :csad:

I'll swim with sharks any day, its those damn horny dolphins that can be a nuisance.

French fishermen have picked up Abby and she's on her way to Australia.

there goes her virtue.

...Yes. :o I would've begun suspecting that my parents may have taken a hefty insurance policy out on me.

I've always had a slight phobia of water, and could never even think about sailing alone, whether it be in an ocean or small river. :o

Glad she was found, though.

Yeah, I would'a said no.

"A sailboat, really? C'mon pop pop, where the hell do we have money for a sailboat? And ****, if we're buying things at random, buy me some goddamn twizzlers. From China. In a golden package".

She was trying to get the record for the youngest person to circumvent the globe. Her brother was the record holder first, and then a few other people beat it. Now it is her turn. I assume she is an experienced sailor to have made it as far and as long as she had. Seems like weather just got in the way and broke her mast. Just because SOME people are stupid and irresponsible at 16 doesn't mean that she was. She set off on January 23 and had been sailing for that long without mistake.

She already messed that up, she had to dock awhile back, all she was doing now was finishing her trip. Had she finished it it would not have been beating the Australian teen's record because it wasn't a round trip without stopping.

I think her parents told her to do it so they could get famous.

Go be balloon boy!
But dad...
No buts, go be balloon boy!

Something tells me that Hero is close to the age of 16 him/herself. Everybody is stupid and irresponsible at 16, just by varying degrees, but still stupid/irresponsible.
