Guillermo del Toro's Beauty and the Beast has landed at Warner Bros. and, according to an update at Variety, del Toro is now planning to direct as well as produce with Andrew Davies (The Three Musketeers, Bridget Jones's Diary) providing the screenplay. They've also confirmed ComingSoon.net's earlier report that Emma Watson (the Harry Potter films) is likely to headline.

Del Toro's next film, Pacific Rim is now in production with a cast that includes Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, Max Martini, Willem Dafoe, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins Jr., Diego Klattenhoff and Ron Perlman.

Details on the Beauty and the Beast project are still currently few, but del Toro will provide a treatment that Davies will work from and this version of the story will be a period piece.

This has potential to be great, Perlman for The Beast!

Throw this on the pile of projects that GDT has lined up.

I'll see it (assuming it gets made), but I'd rather have his adaptations of Frankenstein or Slaughterhouse Five.

this is f***ing awesome news. I really hope this actually gets made. Has there ever actually been a successful live action version of the beauty and the beast?

Amazing director, amazing diverse cast, amazing story to adapt. I can't see this failing.

It's Del Toro, short of the film being in production, you can't guarantee him doing it.

i like the other B&TB film better it has vicnent casssel as the beast and lea seydoux as the princess

IF this ever happens and that's a big if then it will probably be ****ing fantastic!

I would second this, but I don't want a stupid Hellboy baby involved in the movie. Worst decision ever.

At first, I despised the idea too, but think about it. The ending to this film would be tragic. Hellboy and his spawn are destined to ravage this dimension. That would mean Liz would have to kill her own children, and her husband [Hellboy].

Wasn't that finished in the first film though with Rasputin? After that incident and eye opener for Hellboy, you would think he would avoid that at all costs and keep his priorities straight.

Maybe the baby might grow up with that in his mind, but I think what ruined it for me was the cheesy looking Hellboy kid in the second film.

I thought so too, but 'The Angel of Death' near the end of the second film told Liz otherwise. Hellboy and her twins are slated to be the destroyers of Earth.

Fair enough, it didn't bother me too much. The rest of the movie was mystical.

I loved the sequel as much as the first film, I just kind of thought it was a bit cliche with her being pregnant at the end.

Despite what I said, I would honestly like to see what Del Toro did with a third film. I just hope if he ever does another one that it goes back to the roots of the first film. The first film was more like the comics and the comics have some great stories involving old school fairy/witch tales. I would love to see the Slavic witch Baby Yaga in the next one.

anymore good villians in hellboy comics i loved the elf prince from the 2nd film

I felt the same way. However, it still has the elements to end on a high note.

Yes!!!! Me too.

Del Toro is never going to get anything done with all the projects he's taking on. :/

Very true, but that's where the excitement comes from, what in the hell is he going to settle on.

It makes me weep that At the Mountains of Madness may never happen with him.

wouldn't they be more open to it with Cruise as the star especially with the success of MI4

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it had to do with the budget and it being R rated.
