The Brian Hitch cover for next issue of the English movie magazine that previews some comic book movies.
Editor's Letter
Holding out for a hero, or ten..
Go back a decade or two and the notion of a superhero movie was laughable, Spider-man was suspended by very evident strings, and Superman's endeavours were petering out in his Quest For Peace. Marvel itself, that hive of comic book creativity, was facing bankruptcy.
Zap forward to today, and comic book superheroes are the hottest bet in town, virtually keeping Hollywood in designer cars and Evian filled pools. Off the back of its Spider-man, X-men and Fantastic Four franchises, Marvel has become its own studio. Everywhere you look it's boom time for the masked avengers.
Enter Empire, to preview the finest in superhero movies coming your way over the next few years. From returning favourites (Spider-man and Batman remain the evergreens in blue, red and black) to brand new franchises-in-the-making (Ghost Rider, Iron Man and Mighty Thor) we gain exclusive access to the filmmakers and stars about to make legends.
And not to forget the world of comic book fan, Chris Hewitt, our version of Kate Adie (just replace the war zone with the queue for pizza), reports from Comic Con the biggest geek gathering in the known universe. Turns out they're about to inherit the Earth.
