The Brian Hitch cover for next issue of the English movie magazine that previews some comic book movies.

Editor's Letter

Holding out for a hero, or ten..
Go back a decade or two and the notion of a superhero movie was laughable, Spider-man was suspended by very evident strings, and Superman's endeavours were petering out in his Quest For Peace. Marvel itself, that hive of comic book creativity, was facing bankruptcy.
Zap forward to today, and comic book superheroes are the hottest bet in town, virtually keeping Hollywood in designer cars and Evian filled pools. Off the back of its Spider-man, X-men and Fantastic Four franchises, Marvel has become its own studio. Everywhere you look it's boom time for the masked avengers.
Enter Empire, to preview the finest in superhero movies coming your way over the next few years. From returning favourites (Spider-man and Batman remain the evergreens in blue, red and black) to brand new franchises-in-the-making (Ghost Rider, Iron Man and Mighty Thor) we gain exclusive access to the filmmakers and stars about to make legends.
And not to forget the world of comic book fan, Chris Hewitt, our version of Kate Adie (just replace the war zone with the queue for pizza), reports from Comic Con the biggest geek gathering in the known universe. Turns out they're about to inherit the Earth.

I like how he assumes they'll use his rednitions of Cap and Thor in a movie lazy ass. At least Thor is holding the real mother****ing Mjolnir, thouhg it looks photoshopped in.

Thats not a hammer, its a battle axe.

isnt that what thors hammer is supposed to look like anyway..in norse legend...like that ultimate mjolnir..

Yeah, while I enjoy Hitch's comic art, I didn't find this cover at all impressive. As much as I've grown accustomed to the movie version of Spidey's black costume, I don't like it at all in illustrated form. We have no visual reference for Silver Surfer or Iron Man in live-action, yet, so including him on the cover is irrelevant, as is including Thor and Captain America, neither of which have films currentyly in production.

And is their portion of the issue dealing with all comic book movies, or just Marvel films?

Hitch's Iron Man seems... inspired by Adi Granov. :o

Which in turn is inspiring Favreau's Iron Man. :o

I have a feeling the final movie desing isn't gonna look that much like this particular Granov design.

That's because he is using the design will most likely be used in the Iron Man movie (the promotional poster from Comic-Con). Notice how the chest includes the circle instead of the pentagon.

Just like how Hitch put in the black Spider-Man and movie Wolverine because those will be used in the movies.

He used his Ultimate Thor and Ultimate Captain America designs because we have no idea how they'll look.

I don't give a **** about anything in that mag except the news about Thor. That is truly the only reason why I am buying that magazine.

Ok, I do give a little **** about the others like Batman and Spidey 3, but if Thor was not mentioned at all I wouldn't make any attempt to buy it.

I just hope it has a decent article. I remember an awesome Total Film Wolverine cover. I picked it up & there was some lame interview w/a scientist explaining why the X-men's powers are impossible in real life.

LOL.

What sort of people read Total Film if they NEED that explained to them?

And he went into detail. Cyclops, for example, defies science b/c light goes INTO the eye; no light can come out of the eye. So what? Who freakin' cares?

Somebody post some scans once they get an issue.

Yeah, it was supposed to have come out last Friday, yet no where in NEW YORK F'N CITY could I find it. Doesn't make sense.

And Spidey looks kinda metallic in that pic.

the cover looks ALOT better in real life!! i have the issue, will try and scan

Great cover, I can't wait to see what it has to say about Thor.
