Synopsis:

DOWNRIGHT BATTY - After her quick spin in the Batgear, Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) is back to facing the daily challenges of life as herself. Meanwhile, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) has a new, devious plan to get the attention of both Gotham and Safiyah (guest star Shivaani Ghai). With Kate still missing and the city in an uprising, Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Mary (Nicole Kang) are desperate to find a stand in. In a pinch, Ryan dons the suit again and comes face-to-face with Alice for the first time. Back at Crows Headquarters, Sophie and Commander Kane try to uncover who may have had a vendetta against Kate. Carl Seaton directed the episode written by James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash.

Using a stunt double for Kate for flashbacks, smart move. I was wondering if they'd do that since its pretty easy to get away with.

Ryan was trained in half a dozen different martial art forms, will they give her an actual mentor or how did she afford that kind of training? Id say use Wildcat but....

Why do The Crows deal with simple robberies? And are we supposed to believe that they wouldnt look at video footage first?

I find it pretty hard to believe that Julia would be the kind to find herself with Alice/any criminal secretly hiding in the backseat of her car. Though the scene is fun.

You know, you could call Kara Danvers and she'd be in Gotham in five seconds. Put a red wig on her, give her a voice changer and boom, you avoid the obvious issue of people taking one look at Ryan and realizing wait, that's not Kate.

Also, I think Ryan might end up telling people her horrible upbringing more times than Oliver Queen telling people that his name is Oliver Queen.

Yes, Ryan just KNEW that there was an empty bus right in front of her....they couldve come up with something a little better.

"Batwoman?" No not really "well you are to me", if they had just left it at Batwoman?, it wouldve been better and less forced. Arrowverse writers love to drive a point home.

Funny thing: Camrus Johnson stated on Twitter that this plot point with the bats and the virus was supposed to be part of the original Season 1 finale. Makes me curious what else the original finale might've looked like.

Oh god...it was one thing to have Kate write to Bruce but now we'll have Ryan writing to Kate? And they dont mind recasting Kates voice but not the whole thing...ok.

Overall it was yet another decent episode and I love me some Alice but lord am I ready for some other big bads get some spot light. Gotham is a city that house(d)s Joker, Penguin, TwoFace, Clayface,Riddler, Poison Ivy, all these big time villains and I cant believe that Alice is the only big time bad around.

Well, Zsasz is coming next week, so there's that. Though I wonder if Penguin, Ivy, and Riddler at least are free or still in Arkham since we saw their cells in Elseworlds.

If they want to differentiate from Gotham, they could give us a Two-Face since Gotham only barely developed Harvey Dent.

I get the odd Kate mention in the first few episode but if she is not coming back it's stupid to play up the is she or isn't she dead plot

A somewhat better episode than the premier (which was saddled with rationalizing the COVID-shortened season one and the major casting change).

Two interesting details: A reporter mentions that Jacob’s ambush of Batwoman (the events of season finale “O, Mouse!”) occurred just “over a week ago.” So for better or worse, that’s the timeline. Also, Ryan briefly acknowledged her shoulder wound due to the kryptonite bullet. But it wasn’t really clear if she was recovering or if this was setup for a more chronic and serious injury.

I am absolutely loving Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder/Batwoman. She is exactly what this show needed and I think the more I see her the more I realise how bad Ruby Rose was. This show is better for having a charismatic lead.

There are some issues here and there still with the writing & various plot points but it’s definitely already imo a better show than S1.

100% agree, except that I was warming up to Ruby Rose in the last 5 episodes of season 1. Seems Youtube reactors are liking the casting as well.

It was Ryan's voice. Just like in the previous episodes it was Sophie's voice reading the letter.

I love the main cast dynamics so much more now. I'm down for Ryan and Mary becoming besties. So, while the writing for the plot is still kind of adjusting to the new direction, I am liking where it seems to be going.

Right now they are frankensteining the plot. The whole bat plot/some of the scenes came from S1. The whole crowd was from a scrapped episode and it was Alice who was hyping up the crowd but they changed it and put Ryan in.

See I thought Rose was fine in Elseworlds but in the entirety of S1 of Batwoman I thought she was bland as hell. Infact her worst performance was her final episode where I felt she looked completely bored. Honestly go back and watch that scene in the football stadium. She looks so uninterested.

Next season someone else will be writing to Ryan in that book. :o

Did they actually film that crowd in season 1? Because if not and they did that for season 2, then isn't that a super spreader event since they're not social distancing?

Maybe the bat virus is a mirror of Covid and will explain why there are fewer people around. Or at least it could have, but they already have an antidote. And no CDC or WHO.

At least this Batwoman is more human and vulnerable outside of her costume. Ruby Rose was so wooden.

I hope Julia doesn't disappear now Sophie has broken up with her.

An extra confirmed that it was from Season 1. The whole bat/Crows shooting at Kate subplot is from S1.
