Agatha Episode 8 & 9, "Follow Me My Friend / To Glory at the End" & "Maiden Mother Crone"(SPOILERS)

I wasn't sure how the show would go (except that Billy would appear). I ended up loving it. The ninth episode seemed like it was going to be out of place and ended up drawing everything together (something a lot of these shows would benefit from since they give a denouement). One thing it shows is just how well-crafted the show is. Every moment before makes so much more sense in retrospect.

The last episode was the best of the series. The first time I was really into it is when it ended. The eighth episode was ok until they shoehorned the costume - it came out of nowhere and was not needed - it was a jarring, distracting moment.

I also wish we got a moment with Agatha where she was just totally genuinely sincere. I feel like every time she seemed to have a sincere moment with someone, it would turn out to be a ruse to get what she wants. Right down to the end where she almost gave up Billy to death. Even as a ghost, she's not sincere because she's acting all happy and chipper but really she's deathly terrified of facing Nicky.
That's actually my favorite part. So many of these shows would've just rushed to redeem a character like Agatha. She is a blast, but still definitely a pretty bad person by the end. Just not fully one-dimensional.

Not allowing me to add this quote to the post above for some reason. It's funny because I felt the opposite. His outfit gets closer to his final look almost every episode. His hoodie becomes red throughout these series, markings appear on his clothes, they tease the headband, then the crown etc. It's a slow, but steady build towards the full look.

She’s a complicated, contradictory character and I like that a lot but I do feel like in a way they did rush a little to redeem her. We get hints that she is the way she is because of something traumatic in her past but we never see how she that. Maybe it’s that she doesn’t seem to have a lot of control over her power to absorb other witches’ magic like with Alice so that’s why she was labeled evil when she was young. Or maybe it was her mother’s insistence that she was born evil that ironically set her on this path. What happened with Nicky seemed like a tangent because she was already killing witches when he was a baby. I read a theory that she was doing that to appease Rio so that she wouldn’t come for Nicky but if that was true, it wasn’t very obvious.

And now she’s a mentor figure to a Young Avenger and the vibe at the end was very much like odd couple going on kooky adventures. I think it would’ve been interesting if it was more obvious at the end that while Billy can learn from her, he still can’t fully trust her. I would’ve loved it if she was given even less of a redemption.

So we're not gonna acknowledge that Billy was partly responsible for 2 witches and an innocent woman dying with his Keyser Soze'd Witches' Road. :o

I think those hints are there, but it also didn't feel like she really regretted her actions by the end. The reasons why don't make her a good person. It just explains how we got here. She still walked the road, partly intrigued by Teen, but mostly just to steal everyone's power. Might be that she can't fully control the absorption, though even Billy doesn't seem to believe that. Sacrificing herself for Billy is a good deed, granted. With her ledger though that's a long while away from redeeming her IMO. That said, the character notably leans into 'oh look, I'm sooooo evil' as a bit of front, so it's hard to tell her genuine motivations sometimes.

Oh we are. But then we’ll also immediately sweep it under the rug because we can’t think about that for too long or we’ll get sad :csad:.
