The Penguin Episode 8: A Great or Little Thing (Spoiler Thread)

Instant classic man. I've been a little burned out on a lot of comic book TV but this whole series has been aces.

From the first episode on I was convinced Vic wasn't going to make it but would never have guessed he'd go the way he did. Unbelievably good.

Neither did I. Although admittedly it wouldn't have been nearly as impactful had he gone any other way. The fact that the show ended with the audience despising Oswald mainly because of that one specific thing is perfect.

Another great call/insight, reading around

"The most haunting thing about Vic's death, other than the fact that it mirrors his first interaction with Oz (him saying "please" and begging him not to kill him), is that Vic dies nameless. The entire time he was with Oz, he talked about being someone, a name worth remembering. Oz even told him their names were gonna go down in history… all for him to throw his ID in the water and leave him as just another unknown kid dead on the streets of Gotham. Damn."

Interesting coincidence...

I don't get...the curtain remind you of owls or what?

i know man...

i wasn't surprised Oz would eventually kill Vic by the end of the show.
but i originally thought he would kill him in some kind of state of anger towards him.

but the twisted thing about all this was he wasn't even mad at Vic.
quite the opposite, he was appreciative of Vic. Oz even seemed to care for him.

and that's exactly why he murdered him.
to remove any more attachments -- any last shred of humanity that Oz had, he perceived would be a weakness that can exploited against him.

transcended from being a criminal into full villainy.

Ugh that was so damn good. Incredible job all around. Was on the edge of my seat when Oz had his gun pointed at Sofia. From that scene on, my heart was pounding. I had expected Vic to meet a tragic end but did not expect Oz to do that right at that moment. Between that and what he did to his brothers, Oz really is irredeemable and the show did a great job showing us what a sick bastard he is. His vegetable ma’s up there crying while he’s got his stripper girlfriend all dressed up like her and telling him she’s proud of her :weeping:.

I wish the scene at the asylum wasn’t so Marvel post credits stinger coded but that was a minor gripe. It was also kinda funny that Dr Rush got his job at Arkham back just like that :funny:. I’m really excited to see Sofia and Selina get their hot girl summer together. Oh and that bat signal at the end. Just perfect :atp:.

Dr. Rush just working at Arkham again in the end was hilarious. The gap between the quality of writing at the shows height and at its lazy lows is really something.
Yeah, this was strange (no pun intended). Doesn't make sense at all. Hopefully this will be clarified in future projects.

However, really great show. Need more Reeves' Batman now! :)

Corruption aside, you'd think Dr. Rush would be towards the top of Oz's hit list once he seized power. The man isn't even in hiding, instead he's over there running Arkham lol.

An explanation has been offered. Whether it's a convincing explanation is a different question.

DEADLINE: Sofia is back in Arkham.
Why is Dr. Rush there?

LEFRANC:
We established in the fourth episode that he chose to leave on his own volition. He’s reinstated himself to be close to her and to try to help her this time around. Obviously when we see her at the end, she’s not in an emotional place where she’s ready to receive that.

Yeah I'm not getting the issue with Rush being at Arkham. It's not like he was fired lol. I've left a job before and then returned to it a couple years later

Also some of the reactions I've been seeing on facebook regarding Victor have been hilarious. Somehow some viewers forgot this show was about a villain lol.

Does Oz know who Rush is? I don't recall any interactions between the characters other than Oz seeing Rush when Rush was about to cut off his mom's finger. For all Oz knows, Rush was just another hired gunsel.

As a Batman fan, it hurts knowing that Bruce will probably never know about Victor and how Oz used him in his power grab. Unless that somehow becomes relevant in Part II, or is what he's investigating at the start of the film but I highly doubt it.

Also messed up to think that The Riddler and The Penguin combined wiped out the entire Aguilar family.

Batman better bring his A game in Part II.

in the beginning of the show, i thought penguin wanted to become more a traditional mafioso type like rex.

where he'd still be a challenge for batman, but not the same level of evil as carmine falcone.

but by the end, penguin is probably just as evil.
the man is a monster.
and now he's getting politicians in his pocket.

i can kind of see him in a rupert thorne kind of role - like in the strange apparitions arc from englehart / rogers in the 1970s = corrupt councilman where he uses the political machine to try to destroy batman.

Saw someone say there could be a montage of Penguin ramifications to open Parr II and possibly seeing some cops investigating Vic’s body in the park could be a cool little nod.

Given that Reeves has stated the ending of this show is a direct segway into Part II, I fully expect it to pick up moments later.
