State some.

Essential runs, like the ones by Stan Lee, most of his stories are very important

Essential stories, very important stories to the mythos, i.e; ASM 03, ASM 31-33, ASM 39-40, ASM 50-52

Issues with some significance, but the story is not all that important, i.e; ASM Annual 1, Ock meeting May and the start of their connection

Essential runs:
  • Lee, Ditko, and various (Roy Thomas story in the wild doesn't count)
  • Wolfman's run on ASM since he took the reign until issue 200 (graduation from college, Black Cat, the burglar), after that he made some forgettable stories, like the one with Dazzler
Stern on ASM, for his Juggernaut story, and long Hobgoblin arc
  • Dematties on Spectacular (both runs), and his run in Amazing. Introducing good characters like Dr. Kafka, and administering psychological take on characters like Chameleon and Kraven
  • Jenkins run on PPSM, created forgettable villains, but did a lot of good for May & Ben, plus his Spider-Man was funny when JMS had dry humor
  • JMS & JRjr, saving ASM from the clutches of Howard Mackie, reuniting Peter & MJ, his story of Ock, May knowing, and this time it's not retconned to a clone or something equally stupid (ok, maybe the retcon of this one is worse)
  • Mark Millar's MKSM: It may make the faces of many cringe, but what it did to Gargan, Eddie losing the symbiote, leading to Norman becoming the Iron Patriot, and probably more was essential

Stories of high significance from other runs:

Conway (ASM):
  • Introducing Hammerhead, Gang war, May serving Ock
  • Death of Gwen, and the glider piercing Osborn's flesh
  • Goblin 2
  • Jackal, the Punisher, Tarantula, leading up to a grand turmoil
  • The classic Clone Saga

Defalco (ASM):
  • 252, returning with the alien and how people respond to Spider-Man in the unrecognizable new costume
  • 258 had Spidey talking to Richards and removing the costume after the reveal by Puma of organic webbing, and MJ has some talk about the secret she kept bottled this long
  • 259, backstory for Mary Jane, return to the classic
  • 269 & 270, Spider-Man beating Firelord. I don't know how many dislike it, I prefer this one to the Juggernaut story by Stern
  • 276, the fight with Hobgoblin, and the trick he did
