Welling is leading Routh @ 60/40?? What the...? IMO, Welling would look all wrong in the supersuit. His features are too feminine. He lacks the square-jawed manliness that Superman needs. Routh is far better but still needs to bulk up a bit. With a new and improved suit, could be even better.
I suppose that the EW poll may simply reflect overall dissatisfaction with SR and/or lack of familiarity.

I think the poll reflects more that people are familiar with Smallville as it's a TV show (no need to go out to the cinema to see it, it's put in front of you on the TV). Welling sometimes looks the right build, sometimes he seems out of shape.

It might also be that people did not really 'feel' for Singer's interpretation with Brandon Routh, but i didn't see anything wrong with Brandon as a choice. That wasn't part of what I didn't like about the movie.

superman returns rocked as a movie. routh was great as superman. honestly, welling has heroic features. routh has guy features, which works dont get me wrong. but, by comparison welling clearly stands out. many of you are just put off by smallville. i think some are comparing the movie to the tv show.

Routh IS Superman to me.

Reeve was great for the generations before us, and as the man to "hold us over" and introduce us (as well as Tim Daly in SUPERMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES), but Routh is the new Superman, and was great enough to be our Superman.

I love Smallville- haven't missed an epidode in it's run...seriously. But he will always be TV's Clark Kent.

Tom Welling looks exactly like Mike Turner's Superman. He will be my ideal Superman until either Routh learns to act, or someone else comes along and really does the character justice. Let's not have another Welling versus Routh thread though. But I do believe Welling to be the better of the two.

I like Smallville but Welling would not make a good Superman. Even though he is older than Routh, he doesn't "look" old enough to play Superman. He still has that Highschool or early college look about him. Routh looks like he could be a young successful lawyer or something.

wow. that's about the funniest thing ive ever read on these boards.
ya know everyone has their opinion, but i honestly just can't fathom how some people think welling is a better actor than routh. even given routh's limited dialogue, he is a far better actor than welling could ever hope to be both verbally and facially. ive watched plenty of episodes of smallville and while welling is not a horrible actor, he certainly isn't good, even for tv standards. i think many smallville fans must have watched Returns with welling blinders on. i'm just gonna have to chalk it up to a bad case of fanboyitis.

Routh did well but the script let him down badly. He seemed like he was held back to me. Still with the right script im sure he'll do even better. As for welling he continies to shine as Clark Kent (not superman) so please stop comparing.

shouldn't say "we" as you don't speak for everybody.
his eyes were blue in the entire movie. you're probably thinking of the scene when he was lying in his bed. the room was dark, but his eyes were still blue.
