I just finished reading the new issue of Exiles, and I have this problem with the book that has been bugging me for a while. It's been going on ever since Exiles World Tour, and I can't embrace the team like I used to. I see Morph, one of my favorite characters, and realize it's not him. They've taken the fun out of that character, even though the writer still portrays him as "fun, lovable Morph." It's impossible to find humor in the fact that it's really Proteus in his body; and, that the team is suppose to act like nothing's wrong.

I don't know...anyone else have this problem?

yes. It was such a cop out for proteus to end up that way. They prolly wont even regard Morph as Proteus from now on anyway. They'll just forget him. On top of that they killed Mimic.

Exiles was one of my favorite books for so long and now since they completely screwed with the team it has lost it's heart. Before when they got new members it was a big deal because we had time to connect with the character that was lost but now it seems like they're just changing members just because. IMO they need to revamp that book quickly.

I agree. Its sort of like Giligan's island thing, or like a sictom with a very predictable plot line. Eventually people get bored with the storys.
Also the original writer, Judd Winnick, left for other things. I think that was another problem.

I was going to start another post about this.
My idea for a revamp is called, "Exiles: The Hidden Missions"

Exiles: the Hidden Missions is about the the missions they went on that were never told. Ocassionally the Exiles would leap into one world and it would be explained that they had just leaped through a handful or 20 worlds. This would happen inbetween issues and would not be shown. Over time the Exiles might have traveled through 100s or 1000s or worlds inbetween issues.
That way they can retell these stories, go back to some past characters and go back to the main idea of the book (characters who must go on these missions to try and save their future and go home.)

I like that idea because it would get me My exiles back however that in itself is a cop out:(

No, I don't have that problem. Book's still enjoyable, and we always knew th' team would have a revolvin' door method to them. Stories are still good, still one of my favorite titles.

"Exiles" is one of the titles my LCS either runs out of too quickly, or doesn't consistently get new issues of :(. Though the new one with evil Silver Surfer was cool.

It's still one of the best books out there; but, certain characters seem to be the heart and soul of the book. Exiles without Blink would be a crime. (And, when she was gone for that short time, I didn't enjoy it as much.) The other is Morph; but, this is not Morph. I cannot look at that character and not think it's a cold-blooded, insane, body-snatching killer who can become aware of who he really is at any moment.

Darth Hyperion has a very good point, though. They went through World Storm and added various members. But, I would question whether characters like Longshot, Spider-Man 2099 or Power Princess has really caught on. They haven't had an impact on the team besides contributing to the action. They've been treated very two-dimensionally. In the past, we'd lose a character we've grown fond of, and we'd get one new character who would then grow on us in time. Not now, though. Heck, the older issues would even focus on one member, let us get to know them better. Now, while we get some cool What If? type situations each month, like the current "Galactus-lifegiver," it's just a group of characters thrown together who the writer thought would be neat to have in his group.

You're alone there mon frere.

The book is taking a serious hit IMO and with Claremont coming onboard; I don't see it getting any better. Like I said in the Exiles thread, CC has one arc to impress me; cuz after watching Mimic and Morph get screwed, and the team's craptastic new members; I don't think it's even worth my $2.99 anymore.

I'm guessing the Morph/Proteus thing will only last a few more issues, at most, and there'll probably be some kind of arc to resolve it after that.

I don't think CC will think it's a serious enough issue to resolve. The character gets written the same way, it's more of a nitpicky detail bothering Morph fan-people. :(

Who was talkin' Claremont? I know th' book will suck after he comes on.

Yeah.
I hated that.

I really enjoyed Morph,.. Now we have proteus playing Morph.

The only resolution that I think would save this would be Protomorph dying in a place on a world where there is another Morph who could take his place.

I liked Deadpool in Exiles until they "killed" him. Seriously, how do you kill Deadpool? :cmad: :csad:
