I can't help but notice that many fanboys often try to find faults with any female character/heroine imaginable. I noticed that in the Watchmen forums people are constantly nagging about how Malin Ackerman was terrible, or in the Batboards how Maggie Gyllenhaal was terrible, Liv Tyler was terrible in the Incredible Hulk...Why is this? Do boys just like to admire the guys in tights with no girls allowed?

Sexist! :cmad:

But... but... Daredevil's blind!?

majority of men seem to be sexist.. not just fanboys. lol

Perhaps if Malin Ackerman didn't bring on the weakest performance in the entire movie...

Women tend to be the least skilled actors in comic book films since many are cast on looks rather than talent.

because people find fault with everything

maybe she was still trying to overcome her hormones

I thought Maggie G was great in TDK, Liv Tyler, Jennifer Connely, Dunst in SM1, freaking Michelle Pfeiffer in BR, all fantastic.

I liked Ackerman in Watchmen as well.

But I'm not sexist at all. Some funny jokes, yes, but of course I'm not one.

I think women in CBM are more of side characters and don't get the chance to be developed as well as their male lead characters, they're the primary concern. With women I do agree, sometimes they just put them in for the sake of it.

But Pfeiffer stands out the most for me. And Maggie G did great and was there for good reason. She strengthened the tradgedy of Dent by her being his fiance.

The other woman in Watchmen, her mom, was much worse then she was.

I don't think it's so much that Fans/Fanboys are sexist, just that female characters tend not to be nearly as developed because most are placed in as plot devices or flat love interests. Most comic writers are men, thus have an easier time fleshing out men over the women other than "making them sexy."

It's more of a "lust over love" thing in comic women, to be honest.

Its time to face facts people.

Liv Tyler is terrible in everything.

ha i think this may be true

also i think you guys are right on the portrayal of female comic heroes on film.

my favorite female comic characters played in movies thus far have been Pfeiffer in Batman Returns, and probably Rebecca Romijn in the first 2 X Films.

on a side note, im not an Akerman fan, but i didn't really have a problem with her performance. and maybe i just like Gugino, but I loved her as Jupiter.

^^^I'm with you... Wasn't overly fond of Akerman, but didn't think she was "terrible". Gugino was just fine too. As a matter of fact, I think Gugino was pretty good.

I don't know...I'm a Fan Girl and I kind of like Malin Ackerman's Silk Specter II. I'd have to hit the gym (Which I can't really afford at this point in time.) and get a haircut though to emulate her. :(

I'm a fangirl that hated Malin Ackerman's performance, and proud of it!

I really do think she was cast for her looks. The one thing I will give her is that she certainly looks like Laurie in the comic.

As for other comics book heroines, I'm still waiting for the day that I see one that I feel really lives up to thier name. I want a heroine, super powered or not, who is fully realized and not just a plot device used so that the hero can use his powers to his full advantage/save the day/get the girl. The closest I think we've gotten to that so far was X2 (though Brett Ratner had to come along and ruin all that :cmad:). I also liked the Rachel Dawes character in BB and TDK, though in BB my appreciation for the character was ruined by Katie Holmes's acting.

Don't even get me started on Mary Jane Watson as portrayed by Kristen Dunst :cmad:

I thought Uma Thurman was good in Kill Bill. It's not a comic movie but she does play a good heroine . I think you guys are being harsh about Akerman but I'll have to see the film again to see hwo I feel because I was caught up in the moment.

It's hard for females in comic book films to have a good and meaty character to have. Because like I said, most of these films is where the male character is the main character, and you have to focus on him, the female is there usually, but she just really has to be on the side, it's difficult making a supporting character especially female work ofr the male and the plot of the film. Where does the female fit? Or of she's there for the sake of it.

Catwoman stands out though, she parallels Batman and has so much to offer and that's why I think Pfeiffer takes it. I'm looking forward to see how Catwoman is done by Nolan. That will stand out.

I think it's a couple factors.....one being a good number of fanboys feel alienated from women in general...and two....only until the mid 80s were female characters actually given any gravitas.....

as for Ackermans performance, even reviews by non-fans cite her as the weakest link in the chain there...

Me personally, I am like that when it comes to my comics and video games.....those are boys club type things to me and I prefer to keep those to myself

That's really no excuse for having such a bad Invisible Woman in the Fantastic 4 movies, a bad Storm in the X-Men movies, or Elektra being such a bad movie in general.
