Even if FFINO is the Citizen Kane of irradiated quartet movies, I won't support it. To me it represents a huge step back in what has been the golden age of comic book movies. If we spend our hard earned dollars on cheap star-free "contemporary reimaginings" that show clear disdain for the classic source material, we're just asking for more of them.

It's funny how, according to this movies executive producer, audiences are tiring of that sort of darker, "grounded" approach.

I hope I'm able to watch this movie but that will only happen if the reviews are decent enough. I like what I've seen for the most part but if it's getting panned in enough reviews I'm not gonna bother.

I have the same feeling as you. Not to derail this topic but to me its the same as the design of Leto's Joker. He could give the greatest cinematic performance in history and it wouldnt stop me from thinking he looks stupid.

Same thing for this movie, it could be good. But it just looks so derivative of every recent scifi movie.

So, anyone think Trank could abort the press tour like Singer last year? Is it that bad/as bad to be taken into consideration?

He might just get the flu again.:o

I suspect his role will be very limited, and we'll see more Kinberg than Trank.

But I think he'll be out there. Fox desperately wants to make this appear "business-as-usual" and I think Trank will have some carefully planned interviews and appearances in an attempt to maintain an illusion that he was actually running things.

I'll be very fascinated to see how this plays out.

The cast seems utterly disinterested or outright not saying anything about it, the producer/writer is doing damage control, the director is a trainwreck.

Could the level of apathy from the cast be even greater than it has been if they further promote this thing?

Can't wait to see.

I think after Trank's social media fiasco (and yes, it was a fiasco, dude was ranting and posting quotes from Obama/Sonic the Hedgehog fan fiction) Fox realized that they had to grab the bull by the horns on this. I'm not sure what the press tour will be like, but I think it will be a very Fox controlled environment throughout. The recent LA Times article practically screams Fox PR team.

Obama chuckled. "You mean the Chaos Emeralds?"

I'm fairly sure this was Trank's (very weird) way of saying the stories about him (or possibly the plot on 4chan) are "fan fiction" in a sense.

And once again, I maintain my earlier argument that Paramount should hire Trank for that One Direction fan fiction adaptation they're making.

Holy crap.

As much as some people tend to think there's no chance that Trank has visited this board, I really do think the guy has probably seen a post or two, even if it's just because a friend showed him. If you go back to his Twitter ranting, he was directly responding to a variety of fansites (not sure which ones we can and can't talk about, but he definitely had a Twitter convo with Josh Wilding of that one I know we're not supposed to link), he posted a damn quote from some sort of Obama the Hedgehog fanfic, and he's alluded to all of those mean things people dared say about him for the last four years... despite not being on social media officially for a bit after he tweeted that dog picture.

I'm not saying anybody here is Trank or anything, mind you, I'm just saying if you look at that stretch of tweets it's obvious he's checked some fansites.

In a single word, "yes."

Mara is loved because of House of Cards, Teller is loved because of Whiplash and Divergent and Jordan is loved because of The Wire. This cast has enough star power that they don't need Trank to promote it with them.

:funny:

Trank could be anywhere! :p

I seriously doubt he spends much time on the net (one would hope he's busy with the film) but he very clearly tweeted a few fansites and even got into arguments with a few fans. Dude even thanked the fansites for giving his side of the story.

Frankly, though, Trank's awareness of fan fiction involving Obama and Chaos Emeralds doesn't help his case that it wasn't him on 4chan. :p

What? I...no...no, that's ridiculous.

... mara is mostly known for being killed off on house of cards... lets not act like they have a huge fan following

Unless this film gets fantastic word of mouth from long-standing FF comics fans who I hold in high regard, I will continue my floccinaucinihilipilification of it!

If they go on Fallon and talk mostly about other shows and movies though, that's about as sure sign as any that this movie will bomb. I half expect Jordan to start talking about that Stallone movie instead of this one.

:funny:

Will long-standing FF comics fans go?

At this point, unless things start looking better, I'm on the verge of being mentally unable to go.

Sitting through ROTSS was such an unpleasant experience that it was difficult to sit through. When Reed was dancing, I felt such a shame to even call myself an FF fan that I felt sort of nauseous. :o

Unless I can become more convinced than I am that this film will contain the elements that made me a fan of the FF in the first place, I don't think my mind and body will allow me to go.

This latest interview about casting REALLY turned me off.

Kinberg said (in so many words) the FF is boring. He didn't want to portray the Ben Grimm that we all know and love because he thought a Ben Grimm that was bullied by his brothers was more 'interesting' than the (by default uninteresting) real Ben Grimm.

Ben Grimm is my favorite comic book character of all time. He's the reason I'm here. And I've just been told by the producer, writer (and quite possibly director) of this film that my favorite character and the character I want to see more than anything else is boring and therefore won't be appearing in this film in the form I know him.

If that attitude permeates this film (and based on what we've seen it does), I will not be seeing it.

I'm so completely sick (and I'm not talking about the people here, I'm talking about the people responsible for promoting this film that drive the discussion here) of hearing about race and Josh Trank - with absolutely no pretense to even talk about the FF - that I have very little expectation that this film will be the film I've been hoping for over the past 45 years.:csad:

Agree. I can't stand Kinberg. He's a simpleton. The fact that he cannot fathom how a good looking guy who clawed his way from the streets to have it all and then have everything stripped away again could have more drama then yet another victim who becomes powerful just shows it. Because - you know - a 4 inch difference is not that interesting. It's all about the 4 inches. :whatever: It's like Laura Shuler Donner talking about how they picked the X-Men for First Class based on what cool powers they haven't shown before. It's all about the powers. Forget about the characters and actually you know - using the real First Class.
