Only desperate part of it for me is the Avenger posters. They were inventive and cool but they have nothing to do with the movie and were made just to scream MCU connection

The tv spots have also spoiled all surprises.

A lot of people here questioned my faith in Doom due to lack of marketing, but here's a good point another person made about Immortan Joe being such a awesome villain and Mad Max in general: Noone expected that movie to be so good, there wasn't any massive hype about it until the movie got released.

I feel the same thing will happen with Fantastic Four, with a vocal comic book fan base being againts the adaptation of Ultimate Fantastic Four and general audiences ending up liking it, and sci-fi fans absolutely feeling in love with it.

People expecting a lot of action will be disappointed. These are my predictions regarding this movie.

And I'm sure that buzz has nothing to do with it being the latest film in a huge Marvel universe...and everything to do with Ant Man just being THAT cool.

It also looks a much bigger, much more fun movie.
But no, continue with your qualifications and justifications why the "hype" for FFINO is taking a backseat to pretty much every other CBM coming out in the near future.

Fox could learn a thing or two from some of the mcu marketing.
A f4 poster featuring one or two of the more popular xmen could go a long way.

Considering that they don't live in the same world, and that they won't ever crossover any time soon, it wouldn't make any sense.

I find Ant-Man's marketing to be beyond desperate but I believe it will work because of the Marvel connection.

How is it "desperate"?

If it was a universal or other studio movie much of the built-in audience it has would be gone

I'm willing to bet that, if this were a universal film, or even a Fox one, that the handful of people who love Ant-man would be excited to see it since it looks and feels like the Ant-man from the comics.
The same can't be said for FFINO.

Yep. This is seen as having too little marketing and that too much. At least with this there'll be plenty to see in the theatre for the first time

The general consensus is that this movie doesn't have anything impressive to show, which is why it keeps playing the same dull, unimpressive footage and was so easily outshone by everything else on Fox's slate at comic con. I know that you, on principal, are going to deny such a thing but that's the general consensus.
Also I laugh every time I hear someone say that the Ant-man marketing has "spoiled the movie". I have only watched up to the second trailer and have seen a handful of TV spots on TV, and am actively avoiding watching any new footage on the internet. So anytime I hear someone complain that the marketing is "spoiling everything for them"? Not for me it isn't. Just don't seek it out and you'll be surprised how little you actually see.

I would love that!

And Deadpool's might be attached to it!:woot:

A Deadpool trailer of some kind could be attached. The Deadpool con footage absolutely could not. That footage was very hard R material. The MPAA would never allow that in a PG-13 film.

Kebell probably created that blogging hobby as a backstory for the character himself and it may not even be in the movie at all

I'm not so convinced. I would maybe say that we could see some small reference to Domashev blogging before we see anything about his past.

I think the Comic Con trailers are generally designed for and work best with a Comic-specific audience.

I just saw the leaked Apocalypse footage, and I don't think that would make a very good impression on anybody who isn't already a big X-Men fan.

I think they're best to wait until they have more polished trailers so as not to make a bad first impression.

Films like this are always very self-conscious about giving their characters their 'corny' comic-book names, so I'm nearly certain it's a device in this film used to give Doom his name.

I doubt blogging is a big part of who he is, but I'm not getting the impression that he is the kind of completely standoffish and anti-social person he should be.

I'm encouraged that I think Kebbell does get the character and has the talent to do him right, but I'm still very concerned that the script and director (and things like making him the 'third son') and how he has looked for the brief moments of the trailer are not going to create the impression of Doom that we all want to see.

I loved that Kebbell talked about Doom's gypsy roots (HUGE improvement over UFF and Dracula) and parents, but my fear is that's coming from him and not the director or script.

Does that mean there's a chance we won't hear the name Mr. Fantastic?

It will probably be used sarcastically, just like Grimm will probably not be called "The Thing", but you will probably hear people describing him as being "a thing".

:funny:

I don't know why these films get so hung up on it. Don't call them anything and if/when the sequel comes around they can just be referred to by their comic names and we can assume they were named some time in between films.

I was watching Man of Steel yesterday (after the BVS Comic-Con footage got me in the mood), and that moment when they mention "Superman" and everything stops and it's awkward and unnatural just seemed dumb and unnecessary.

By BVS, everybody can be calling him Superman and there was no reason to interrupt the first film just to get that in there.

I was thinking the same thing and I think we got a taste of it with the commercial of Harvey Elder saying something like: "I don't know what that is."

Which I thought was dumb and annoying and contradictory to the film's stated goal of being grounded. That's Ben Grimm. He's a person who went through a horrific transformation. In what 'grounded, realistic' 2015 world would people treat him like an object (and not give the poor guy some pants)?

I agree. I'm looking forward to Apocalypse, but the footage we saw wasn't near as compelling as what we saw for Deadpool, BvS, or SS. Granted they had only been filming for 5 weeks, so of course they don't have anything huge to show us, but it sort of proves your point that footage at comic cons is basically just preaching to the already converted.
For what it's worth though, it's funny how Apocalypse has only been shooting five weeks and it already had more than enough footage to show up the FFINO.

The fact that the very first thing we ever heard about this Doom was that he was an "anti-social blogger" makes it clear that it's something we are going to see in the movie. They might have excised it in reshoots seeing that, as Eddie said, it went over like a lead balloon with the fans, but it's obvious to everyone that it was a part of the character.

It's literally how he gets the name "Doom."

Since his name isn't Victor Von Doom, they gotta forcefully and clumsily shove Doom in there somehow. Why not let it be his blogging username?

That's what the kids are hip to these days, daddio!

Either way I doubt it's something that is gonna be seen or referenced more than once. With the hoopla you'd think the whole time he's sitting in front a screen

Well being an anti-social programmer/computer technician/IT Guy/Blogger, he probably will be.

Just a shame he won't be Victor Von Doom.

It's only 8 million less than Ant-Mans budget. Don't hear anybody calling that cheap

Obviously, posters are comparing FFINO's budget to other DC and Marvel superhero team-ups (X-Men, Avengers, Guardians, Suicide Squad), not solo adventures. But your concerns about Ant-Man's budget are probably more suited for the Ant-Man forums.

ASM wasn't a financial failure

Sony didn't get into bed with Marvel because they were happy with ASM's BO take. That smells like failure to me.

There's an Avenger in the film and Rudd's character is coming back next year in Civil War. The MCU connection is real. Why wouldn't you scream about it?

I'm not surprised. I think today, tomorrow or Wednesday is likely.

I'd expect it at least a couple days before it's in theaters, so I'd be surprised if it's after Wednesday.

Yeah, do you really think Fox is going to let the Ant-man's release slide by w/o being right on their coat tails....

They might wait to drop it on Friday just because of this.

It'll definitely be this week.

Hopefully its online before Ant-Man.

LOL I'm browsing through some of main comic book movie sites and it's crazy how four of the CBM's films have leaked footage online and are getting all types of love and yet it's almost like the 4stic cast wasn't even at Comic Con!

Wait do they still have a movie coming out in less than a month? LMAO!!!

I'm sure copies will be in theaters this weekend, but if they wait to release the trailer online until Friday, everybody will be talking about Ant-Man and ignore FF.

So I think the logical thing to do is release it between this past weekend (when everybody was talking about the big Comic-Con unveilings) and this coming weekend (when everybody will be talking about Ant-Man) and maybe be the big story for one day this week.

But that's based on logic and so far the marketing for this hasn't been particularly logical.:cwink:

So Fox was confident enough to give us full shot of apocalypse and that is a year away

No Doom yet???:whatever:

wait now he is the "3rd unofficial sibling" to the Storms ?

when it rain it pours hug? LOLOLOLOL **** this movie

Speaking of Doom, Tobey Kebbell is in rare form these days...

"You know he destroys Thor. He punches up all those people. I don’t know what the political… I can’t get into this. You’re going to write this, and I’m going to get destroyed. They’re going to sue me, but look: can someone at Marvel and someone at Fox talk, and with Doom, just lend him out, like football? You can have him for the World Cup, that’s it! Then just let me go - let me go and destroy Thor, for goodness sake. I’d love to work with those boys." ~Kebbell
