Fant4stic: Reborn! - - Part 36

Well, I highly doubt we have seen the best because they never showed any shots of them battling together. That was one of those things I was expecting from the trailer.

True, there are some things that they aren't showing us. But it is troublesome that what they have let out so far looks so underwhelming.
I hope you don't mind me asking but as someone who is looking forward to this movie, how do you feel about the trailers and the TV spots? Are you pleased with what you have seen? Do you think the CG is decent?

Guys they aren't going to put their worst visual effects shots in the trailer, that is a ridiculous idea. They are trying to sell the film, putting bad shots in your trailer will not sell your film.

I am not happy with the marketing but it was adequate enough for me to still have interest in checking out this movie. I am literally like one of the most optimistic guys so I can't help but think that there could be greater things in scenes they aren't showing us.

For the most part, I thought CG was decent. A couple of shots bothered me so far and that's it.

After seeing Ant-Man I feel that Peyton Reed could've done great back then with this franchise 15 years ago. Also, there was one trippy sequence in Ant Man that probably did exploring the unknown better than anything we'll see in this movie.

I wholeheartedly agree. Reed really added heart and family to Ant-Man, and there was clear affection to the history of both Scott Lang and Hank Pym.

I really liked an early 'blink and you'll miss it' cameo that I now have to explain to my nephew, and the mid and post credit scenes both had substance for the future of the MCU.

The new trailer for Fantastic Four wasn't really good enough to draw the reaction that Batman vs. Superman did, but I do think it will draw some interest from general audiences. More knowledgable comic fans will likely be more intrigued to see FF as a curiosity rather than a summer box office draw.

Basically. Trailers are for your money shots.

Now we often see substandard VFX work for early trailers, such as a Super Bowl spot for a film coming out in July. But that's clearly not the case here.

Weta is Fox's go to visual studio for their big vfx heavy projects since Avatar. It's not within Josh's power as a director to have a say in who handles it. They are hired by the producer and studio execs and work in concert with the director.

That Trank was touting the cost cutting virtues of OTOY and his intent to use it for this flick is a matter of public record. He even appeared at a Nvidia expo for thing for them: http://venturebeat.com/2013/03/19/o...-in-indie-games-and-the-fantastic-four-movie/

Weta, ILM or MPC etc do not use OTOY. They have their own high end hardware, customised software, patented rendering engines, experienced digital artists, etc. That's why they cost a lot.

That Fox did go to more expensive options suggests Trank's on the cheap OTOY experiment was simply not working out at all (we saw nothing of any fx until the first trailer over 5 months after they finished principle filming), and the Fox suits simply pulled rank on him.

The official line from Kinberg & Trank is they wanted to wait until they what to had to show would blow us away. I've felt stronger gusts from silent farts.

This isn't BvS, AoU, JW, etc. Unlike those films, they don't have the extra shots to spare. Whatever they got, they put in the trailer.

:funny:

We really should collect a list of ridiculous things Kinberg and Trank have said throughout production.

That statement, combined with the first trailer that showed absolutely nothing, is a perfect example of the BS they've been feeding us from the start.

Yep. I'm willing to bet we've seen a taste of all the best effects shots. Most of the film will be the build up to the mission and the 'body horror' they've been telling us about.

They've told us from the start this will be 'grounded and gritty'. The marketing department is doing their best to make this look like a Marvel film by jamming as many action scenes as they can into the trailer, but we shouldn't infer that here's a lot more action than we've seen.

Oh wow I was wondering why these trailers felt so jarring and weird, that's exactly it.

They're trying their best to mimic Marvel and their fun, but failing REALLY hard at it.

Either due to really bad trailer editing, or the movie having very little good fun and funny moments.

They have a standard to live up to regardless of how much they are paid. Even if they got the B team at Weta, they still have to live up to their standards as a visual studio. It not only looks bad on their resume but it hurts their reputation.
.........................So are you agreeing that the CGI in this film looks PS2 at best?

Just came in from watching Ant-man. Booed the 4stic trailer in the beginning but enjoyed the film though.

(Yeah I actually booed it but people were still coming in, doubt the people in front of me cared though)

My friends and I attended the midnight showing for Ant-Man last night and the joint was packed. Three of the four of us loudly booed the trailer as well and some fanboy behind us clapped and laughed. Of course I wasn't the silent one. :funny:

Hate to break it to ya but...no. This is the best we're going to get. Go back and watch all of the previous FF trailers, hell, even the X-Men trailers. All of the most important money shots are shown and there isn't anything left for the films themselves. It's a FOX marketing trademark.

For example, with X-Men: Days Of Future Past they literally showed EVERYTHING of Storm's power displays in the trailers. By time I got to the theater there was nothing left to learn or be wowed by. FOX is notorious for spilling all of their money shots in the trailers because they do their CBMs on the cheap and never invest enough to actually hold over for the film in theaters.

Well, I am going to check this movie out either way and I will let you guys know what happens as far as the CG shots are concerned. Not the end of the world for me if the best shots are already shown in the trailers.

If WETA is involved, there must be atleast some glorious shots and that's from my experience.

Yep. Since everything else about this film is following very closely the model of the first film, the battle with Doom in the end is likely to be a similar length and we've already seen many shots of that battle.

We haven't seen it all put together yet and there will be more that we haven't seen, but I'll bet we've already seen 10% of the final battle in quick, disjointed clips.

Man, this movie is gonna be so weird. I mean, I've been waiting patiently to give this new FF a break, because it at least deserves that much. But there's just no way it will be good enough to justify it's existence. I'll probably go see it, but I thought I was gonna see Terminator:Genesys until I changed my mind, so I'm not even sure about that.

You shall be our sacrificial lamb. Go ye forth! :sly:

Well, there is only one or two other movies that I am looking forward to seeing in August. Rogue Nation and Man from U.N.C.L.E

So why the heck not. lol. I watch quite a lot of movies so I am good.

I've always felt this wasn't going to be an action heavy movie. And I'm fine with that.

I am starting to feel the same way. I was expecting the final battle to be in NYC and not a single shot from it in the trailers. Maybe it is just for the posters.

OTOY is a cloud service to cut down on the rendering times. It's not something that would effect the normal VFX workflow much. In laymen terms it's a faster drying paint.

I think there will be some damage to NYC as a result of Doom's use of the 'quantum gate', but the real battle will be in the Negative Zone.
