I do think he looks kinda bad and then in certain shots not so much, that's where the confusion comes in. Funny thing is I never contemplated whether Groot or Rocket looked bad so yeah that tells you something.
So basically, The Thing is modern art. :hehe:

I was bored so I had a closer look at the Thing's amazing ability to make the ground explode just incase it was a situation when two different shots had been cut together. But when you look at the few frames before the explosion you do see the Thing dropping to the ground behind the humvee, so it is not a case of two different shots, the Thing does have teh ability to make dirt explode in a ball of flame.

He really said that? Wow... Just wow.

Yep, I know. Like I said unfortunately in the digital age now studios can wait till the last minute to throw something together. Obviously quality goes out the door when you're doing a rush job, but back in the days of optical compositing and film cell splicing, if a film like this was this far behind it would be physically impossible to finish it on time.

So you've seen the film already?

No we were talking about the most recent trailer and how it looked on the big screen with ant-man. All the mistakes people pointed out watching it on their laptops and iPads are magnified when seeing it on a large screen format.

Now they may have some more finished effects by the time the film comes out, but one thing is clear...for a film that releases in two weeks they are way, way far behind on post production.

I don't even need to wait for it's weekend. Ant-Man is most likely not hitting 65mil with that Friday number and might go under 60mil and it has the Marvel brand and better marketing (not good marketing but better) than FF. I'm now thinking 35-45mil opening weekend.

I would agree if Ant-Man ends up below $65M. I was guessing Ant-Man $70M and FF $50M. If Ant-Man is below $70 (even if it hits $65), I'd be surprised if FF hits $50.

The long-range prediction on boxoffice.com is looking like it was 6-10 million dollars over on Ant-Man, which has been a bit of a trend this summer. Going by that, their long-range prediction for Fantastic Four (49 mil) could very well be under by about that much. It's been a tricky summer to predict, but low 40s seems very possible.

I think a poor performance for Ant-Man will definitely point toward an even poorer performance for FF.

Up until yesterday evening, I was assuming the opposite - people would show up excited for Ant-Man, they'd see the FF trailer and show up for FF in August.

Based on general buzz and marketing, I would definitely expect Ant-Man to do better than FF. If Ant-Man is at or below $60 M, FF almost certainly won't match the $58 M of ROTSS.

Keep in mind that Ant-Man has 3D and Fantastic Four doesn't. So even if they sell the same number of tickets, FF would gross substantially less.

On a semi-related note... anybody have sny sort of idea what the merchandise licensing revenue was like for Silver Surfer back in '07? I suspect there was at least enough merch for Fox to bring in at least $8,000,000 (thus completely eradicating the difference in budget between that film and this film), but more data would be great.

Fyi most of the pro's were predicting 60-65 mil ow for Ant Man for months and it's looking like 58 so I'd say they were pretty close and it looks like it's getting good word of mouth too. I'm guessing FF will do 35-45.

Ant-Man made $22 million for Friday. So it's looking like $60 million this weekend.

In all of the craziness with Thing sauce I didn't even realize it until now...

The Thing Burger has bacon on it.

:funny:

Not only bacon, but it's a cheeseburger, so they're mixing meat and dairy.

If he had any balls, this would be a kick in them.

If they go through with the sequel, I've got a great product they can slap the Thing on!

"We thought the character was more interesting as a Seventh Day Adventist" - Simon Kinberg

"this is more of a prequel, he'll be Jewish in the sequel"

Such an inconsistent portrayal. You can take one look at this Thing and tell he's supposed to be Jewish. The rabbi went a little overboard on the circumcision, but still...
