Exactly :loco:

They aren't unprofitable. For the longest time through the 80s and 90s X-Men was Marvels premier franchise. Marvel sold those rights as they were amongst their most profitable. Marvel may try to bury them but they'd still be profitable, it'd just be marvel would be choosing not to profit from them.

Yes, during the 90s the X-Men were a big deal for Marvel. Outside of Spidey, the X-Teams were likely their biggest asset.

But the lack of live action rights has crippled the profitability potential of the franchise for Marvel, and ultimately the Mouse. Certainly Disney could squeeze a few additional bucks out of the franchise by putting Electronic Wolverine Claws on the shelves and putting Gambit into Disney Infinity 3.0. But even so the X-Men and related characters would lag far behind the Avengers, Spidey, Guardians, the Netflix Defenders and the two SHIELD shows on ABC in terms of generating income.

For Marvel, the FF and the X-Men are the two lowest ranking salesmen on the board, nowhere near qualifying for the Cadillac Car. Or even the set of steak knives. I see this as a big problem for both Marvel and FOX, and I am hoping it will get resolved.

A Hot Toys Sue Storm would be cool though. I know they did one Xavier for FC and Wolvie for DoFP.

Hot toys can have a movie license. Marvel isn't stopping those. there just hasn't been a big clamoring for them. I know Diamond Select however, can't make any Fox film stuff, they made a DOFP Mystique and it was rejected by both Lawrence and Marvel.

The toy business is confusing as crap.

I remember Hulk hands being huge sellers but the Hulk movie wasn't a kids movie at all.

Anything superhero based will be marketed to kids. Except when they're rated R, and even then they used to do it back in the day. On that note I was wondering if the Thing action figure will have a detachable appendage.

There was a lot of demand for a Hot Toys DOFP Magneto after release, their facebook was flooded with people asking for it.

There are two issues concerning 1/6 X-Men movie figures.

1. Marvel/Disney, The own majority control of X-Men movie merchandise and can and likely has vetoed figures aside from Wolverine. First Class Xavier mysteriously never released.

2. Hot Toys have to get the actors likeness rights themselves as Fox didn't procure them in the contracts.

I'd imagine Psylocke, Archangel, Storm, Magneto and Apocalypse figures from X-Men: Apocalypse would sell well.

indeed, plus also, people have to keep in mind Marvel can't use the movie likenesses without FOX making some dough out of it... so the Disney Infinity figures for instance, would look unrecognizable to kids.. because they have nothing to know who these people are by. No cartoon, not recognizable in movies.. etc...

it's a-lot more complicated than "I like X-men, i'd buy X-men stuff, ergo... X-men stuff sells (that's not how it works)

Hulk hands were a-lot of fun, the film was boring for almost everyone but it had a toy-line and kids liked Hulk regardless of the film

Luke Skywalker is getting an Infinity figure and i be kids right now know who he is mostly by the legacy rather than current appearances. They'll have heard about him and maybe even seen him in the movies or Lego & Lego games but he's not a character that is currently trending.

It's the same with the X-Men, though the X-Men have current comics and while Marvel isn't 'pushing' X-Men, kids know who they are if they know the rest of Marvel. Afterall they were in Lego Marvel videogames and have had some Lego sets and i'm sure some kids saw DOFP or one of the three previous cartoons.

Infinity figures wouldn't be based on movies but on comics and Marvel profits 100% from comic merchandise.

here in lies the issue with Hot Toys... it's a high-class expensive collectors market, not mass retail. the numbers sold are no-where near the toy sales that you'd find of action-figures that are sold in Wal-Marts, Targets and Toys R Us's across the country... its a collectors market.. that the general public has no baring on. And yes, you are correct about Hot Toys having to procure the rights themselves.. which turns out to be a massive head-ache, and why the DS Mystique was not released.

I am however pretty confident though Marvel has little say over specialty markets. I could be wrong.. it's really od.. Mini-mates can be made.. but there's statue and bust companies where they can't. so it might be a case by case complicated scenario

........ because it's friggin Luke SkyWalker... you see Star Wars characters all over the place... and it's all based ON THE FILMS (which Marvel can't do without FOX making money)

also

COMICS also ARE NOT VASTLY POPULAR among-st kids... comics have been on a steady decline for years... COMICS are not a good format to base designs on for a platform geared towards children.... it's got to be TV or Movies.. period. All the Star Wars stuff is done more Clone Wars style.. and heavily features the Clone Wars and Rebels cast... in addition to the beloved classics... its a poor and nonsensical comparison.

as i said.. MARVEL CAN"T USE THE MOVIE LIKENESSES WITHOUT FOX GETTING MONEY in the end.. they wouldn't make much at all off of that.

And Marvel has been in a big habbit of not pushing old dated designs on toys

I think Marvel missed a good shot at releasing a Oversized hardcover of Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch Fantastic Four run alongside a Ultimate Fantastic Four Omnibus, with names like Bendis, Millar, Ellis attached it would have had sold.

Man we're just less than 3 weeks away from this movie. I'm so curious to see the established world and already pondering how the sequel will advance the plot and how Dr. Doom will work, with him being a creature of energy or something, it makes him seem like a living god to Latverians perhaps.

here's the thing, again.. the Ommibus's and other collectors market arn't usually that profitable it's a very very niche market

I didn't know that the FF and X-Men toys in the past didn't sell. I'm more of a gamer and I don't want Marvel to stop producing X-Men and FF games. Mostly since I feel like the X-Men can easily be a great strategy RPG along the lines of Final Fantasy Tactics or XCOM Enemy Unknown while the Fantastic Four can be more along the lines of a space adventure.

It should be noted that it's a different marketplace now for superhero movie toys. Back with X-Men and X2 (only figures other than those tiny cheap Origins ones i can remember) Superhero movie toys were in their infancy. Today they're a juggernaut.

His line from the trailer "The end of your world... is the beginning of mine" has me thinking at the end he could wish to have his own nation to run things in his image

It's going to be interesting how much of a techno mage he's going to be and how Latveria will look.

looks like the runtime is 107 minutes

Yeah I am interested what they are going to do with Doom, I understand the complaints about his look, but Kebbell is a great actor who just last year played amazing villain in Koba. I think his performance will be great and he will provide some menace.

sadly.. Marvel hasn't really had much of any console games for a while... Sony's movies get spidey games but outside of that there hasn't been much of anything in the last handful of years

juggernaut or not... its a visual medium, and 90% of the fox costumes are boring as all hell.... that no kid wants. No store is going to sell a wall of figures in civilian attire or black costumes (that all look the same). it's un-appealing.

people tend to forget the F4 can't really be a long lasting franchise without something changing... 85% of their best stories and characters are tied into Marvel Studios... they can't even do half the Frightful Four roster...

and I seriously don't see Mole Man, The Wizard, the Badoon, Trapster, Puppet Master, or Dragon Man carrying a film... they're neutered at fox.. and watered down unfortunately.

I can see Wizard and Trapster assembling a different Frightful Four with Mad Thinker and Molecule Man.

Harvey Elder is also present so I can see him becoming Mole Man down the line in a sequel.

Puppet Master could also work if it's the story where the FF and Doom are in a Truman Show-style VR simulation with Alicia Masters.

Dragon Man has never been a compelling villain to me. The Badoon have also never been a big threat and I can't see them being a big enough threat in a Silver Surfer spin-off when there's Terrax and Obliterator. Impossible Man and Kurrgo are also weak villains.

The FF still have Annihilus, Blastaar, Terrax, Galactus, Psycho Man and Terminus.

@Dasher: I actually hope we get the Zombie FF as the Frightful Four. :b But Zombies might be tad overdone at this point lol.

Didn't Deadpool get a game? Did it suck?

They filled the game with memes and Deadpool making bad jokes 24/7 so the game got very tedious and it was rather short too:

And they have Malice...not sure how well Kate could pull that off, but it would be fun.

Finally, a press screening. I just want to know what day the screening is and what day the embargo ends.
