Reed going nuts and beating up Sue then becoming a supervillain just comes across as awful fan fiction. I hope never to see something that stupid on screen.

That's basically the Ultimate Marvel universe outside of Ultimate Spidey in a nutshell.

I wouldn't want them to use Malice until at least the 3rd or 4th film. I think we need to get to know and like Sue before going that route, and I doubt we will get to know her well enough in this first film.

Malice was originally the name of a Killmonger minion. So I wonder how that even works with the rights.

I just watched Toby Kebbell's episode of Black Mirror on Netflix.

My god, he is a damn good actor. Wow. Great performance. I recommend that if you have not seen it yet, you must watch. It's season 1, episode 3.

Well, the Maker may be making the transition to 616...

But only so long as we still have the real Reed Richards. I never want to see anything post-Ultimatum showing up in the films. Yes, the first Thor and Avengers films used the Ultimate origins since they're more modern but notice that Age of Ultron was very much a 616 film (and I regret also saying that about Thor 2 since it ruined Malekith). Continuing the Ultimate storylines is idiotic and I really hope that it only lasts for one film with the FF. I don't want wife-beating evil Reed showing up. There's a reason why the Ultimate Marvel line was killed off. Before it was the line which had the guts to kill Gambit but was overall a fresh new take. Then they killed Scarlet Witch and Cable and fans began to sour. Then Ultimatum happened and Daredevil, Cyclops, Wolverine, Wasp and Doctor Strange were all killed off. Then Spider-Man was killed. Then Captain America and Thor died while Iron Man and Thing were technically undead and sales never recovered since they kept killing popular characters. Even bringing Peter Parker back from the dead didn't help sales. It was that bad.

How about no? Ultimatum ruined Ultimate Marvel and I refuse to take anything after that as canon.

Mark Millar's Ultimate Avengers was a proper sequel to his Ultimates, Jonathan Hickman's Ultimates is something Hickman refers to as his best work and he even keeps using the Maker (Ultimate Reed) to this date in his Avengers/New Avengers run alongside having the character star on Secret Wars, Marvel's biggest event.

The Maker is also going to remain in Marvel post-Secret Wars, giving him more promotion and being canon. :b Maker is really one of the best new villains Jonathan Hickman has created for Marvel and it would truly work to see him on the big screen.

Even bringing Peter Parker back from the dead didn't help sales. It was that bad.

That never happened, it was a clone and was only used for 1 story arc. Also I wouldn't say Ultimate Marvel's quality dimished because they didn't have A list characters, the Ultimate Marvel relaunch happend the sametime as New 52 from DC which annihilated their sales, this is something Hickman has kept saying and then Alonso mismanaged the Ultimate lines by adding bad forced cross-over events. Despite all that Hickman's Ultimates and Brian Wood's X-Men we're a blast to read. I mean, would anyone here say Fantastic Four comic was bad and should be forgotten because they're cancelling the comic and dismantling the team? I bet not, Ultimate Marvel has just been poorly managed by the editorial.

Also I don't really recall Maker beating up Sue, if Reed beat up Sue that was definitely before he became the Maker and was probably either written by Jeph Loeb or Bendis? (Because I really don't recall Reed beating up Sue, so it must have happened before he became the Maker and so it wasn't written by Hickman), Because Hickman never wrote that. :yay: Even if that bad writing had happened, it doesn't matter because I doubt we'd see that on the big screen.

The Maker, the City and Children of Tomorrow definitely have cinematic quality to them:

Not to mention you can have Future Foundation with Sue and Doom, how cool is that? And even after the Maker's defeat the Government could see him as a necessary evil:

He is a great actor, and honestly he's had the most enthusiasm about his part int he movie than anyone else. That being said, he doesn't controll what Doom looks like and the producers, made him look like ass. He doesn't control that the writers made him an anti-social blogger, but he's got to play the part.

It sounds like from what he could control as an actor, he brought as much as he could to the part, but if he's written poorly then there's not much he can do.

The same could be said for Julian McMahon who did about all he could do in his version of the character.

Well, we don't know what the writing is like yet, I don't like his look but the actor is great so I expect a good performance at least. That's more important than the look for me, remember, Malekith had a great look but the characterisation was poor so he didn't make any impact.

If Kebbell gives a great performance it could make a big difference, we will see I suppose.

Do any of you remember some exec in Fox saying something about that they would never let Fantatsic Four revert to Marvel, and that they would just make a direct to DVD movie and put it in theaters if it came to that? Has someone got a link to that?

Thanks!

But I seem to recall there was a named Fox producer who said the same thing about the putting a DTV production in theaters if it came to that.

Am I mistaken?

I believe it was an unnamed exec. In any case, it would never happen. No theater owner would abet FOX in such a scheme and risk never being able to screen Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, and Disney Animation films.

Any talk show appearances that we know of, that the cast is lined up for?

Probably not until the week of August 7.

Alright. I haven't seen the cast together yet, where they properly talk about the movie. The only time I'm aware of that they were interviewed together was by MTV, and they barely spoke about the film, and their Comic Con appearance wasn't too informative either.

Jordan was on Kimmel one night in April talking about Creed and Fantfourstic.

Just a run of the mill interview and they showed one of the trailers/tv spots, don't remember which.

I don't think they'll do much together. They don't really seem very comfortable as a group (possibly related to some of the rumored problems on set which they awkwardly avoid talking about).

In the days prior to the film, I'm sure they'll be out on the various talk shows. But none of them are big stars, so I wouldn't expect a huge number of appearances.

Yeah he might give a good performance, he's a good actor, but that still doesn't mean he's going to bring Dr. Doom to life. He's more likely going to give a good performance as "generic sci-fi villain" in Chronicle 2. Not Dr. Doom.

There hasn't been anything in the trailers and pics that have lead me or anyone for that matter to believe that this Dr. Doom will be memorable or be with the likes of Darth Vader, and other great villains of cinema.

Well, we have seen and heard so little about Doom its hard to judge, I don't he will be exactly the Doom from the comics but I am interested so see what they have done.

Let's face it Marvel have done poorly with plenty of their villains and their movies were not effected most of the time, so a good performance here is a good start and we know we will get that. I am looking forward to his performance myself.

Yep. That's a big part of it.

Could he give a good performance? Sure. Will he? Who knows. Script went through so many changes, most of them from a hit or miss writer, add that to the troubles on set and we can't say for sure. Even great actors can't do much with bad material.

As well, the performance might just BE very good. But it won't be Doom. Not how he should be portrayed in a film at least. It'll be Domashev, anti-social programmer/computer scientist/blogger/whatever the hell.

I am willing to bet the blogger stuff will take up about 2 mins Max of the whole movie.

The Blogger stuff where he supposedly gets the name Doom, which is his username?

And then supposedly USES his blogging username as his actual name for, like, the last 10 minutes or so of the movie according to the soundtrack listing?

Doesn't even matter if we don't actually SEE him blogging. The fact that the Doom name comes from him blogging on blogs and isn't his actual name is the problem.

I'll admit to Maker being a cool character but he still works better as an alternate universe version of Reed. I don't want to see Reed from either Marvel Studios or Fox turn evil. And forgive me if I stopped reading Ultimate Marvel after Ultimatum.
