2. I, Frankenstein (2014) 3%
3. Dark Skies (2013) 40%
4. Movie 43 (2013) 4%

Well hey, one of these movies ended up being fresh. There's hope for this movie yet.

I seriously think this will be in the 10-15% range...

Movies get 20-30% just being regular, treating critics with respect... A mediocre film with a disrespectful embargo? Prepare the cameras, the train wreck is coming

Yeah, I think part of the reason the films on the list above are SO low is they had embargoes. The same films without embargoes probably would have been a little higher.

That's an average score of about 15%.

Ouch.

This movie may be garbage, but like I said earlier I suspect it'll be a sleeper. The kids are hyped for this thing.

Most of us saw the warning signs, knew this movie had major problems and had our fears in regards to what the end result would be, but to seemingly have those fears confirmed is no less jarring. I tell you what though, all the details of the production will come out eventually and it should make for interesting reading.
Hopefully a feature as well.

Added Box office take to the list... I think we might be looking at Hansel and Gretel numbers here

that would be well below the current tracking projections

that would be well below the current tracking projections
A "miracle" would be numbers of a movie that has a similar history, not in the list since it was screened for a small group: GI JOE The Rise of Cobra. That would be 35% RT, Opening $54M, Total $150M

If those tracking numbers are accurate, it will still under-perform both Tim Story films

Oh go on, tell me what I've missed these last few days in FF world.

Tracking hasn't been the best this year. medium sized films have under performed, while many of the bigger pictures have outdone their tracking. $40m seems like a good number after what happened with Terminator, while taking into account that they are trying to sell this as a Marvel movie.

How accurate is that box office tracking? I see it tracks facebook likes and positive, negative tweets, wich seems unreliable to me...

What bums me out about this situation with the Fantastic Four the most, is just how utterly wasted they are at Fox. The team and all related properties (Doom, Galactus) have been a disaster under Fox.

I get that some want it to succeed under Fox and be combined with X-Men, but the maximum potential of the Fantastic Four franchise will never be achieved with Fox, least of all due to how they have been handled. I also get the first X-Men film and how it help start up CBM's, but that movie does not really stand up nowadays. Looking back, it feels very mediocre at best. compared to what we have now.

Rationally, I think we've reached the point where FF are a more valuable bargaining chip than an actual film franchise, but even then they are damaged goods by Fox's own hands.

I think Marvel was wise to cut down their exposure to lessen the negative impact this film is going to have on the property.

It's probably slightly more accurate than anybody around here pulling a number out of their a$$.:cwink:

At this point if Vegas offered that projection with an over/under option, I'd put $1000 on the "under".

I agree, but what really bugs me is it wouldn't have been that difficult for Fox to do it right. They should have hired a good director, gave him a reasonable budget and instructed him make a spectacular FF film that captures the wonder and scale of the original comic books.

There's no reason Fox couldn't have "out-Marveled Marvel" with an FF and Doom recognizable from the comic books and a path laid out to meet Galactus and Surfer in film 4 or 5.

I have two passes from Eventful for a free screening of this thing in Atlanta at the Regal Atlantic Station Stadium on 8/4 at 7:30pm, so if you want me to forward it to you via email, let me know via pm or something. Don't know if it's first come first serve or what.

 Good post. I agree.

This film has bad buzz, if Fox were confident in it's quality and wanted to get rid of that bad buzz they would have screened the film and allowed reviews out on the Monday or Tuesday before it's release on Thursday night. I'm not even saying they should have had the reviews out two weeks early because a week or even a few days would do but they are not doing that because they do not believe that they have a good film. At this point I would be surprised with an RT score much higher than around 40%.

There in l think lies part of the problem. Fox had what, an 8 year head start on Marvel to begin with? Then Marvel Studios comes along and completely changes the entire CBM scene. Disney scoops them up (very wisely), and Fox has a knee jerk reaction due to being completely unprepared to the changing landscape.

Look at how they react to Disney acquiring Marvel, and then LucasFilm. They keep getting caught off guard. Then Fox tries to acquire Time Warner, finally acknowledging that the industry is moving ahead of them, but we all know how that turned out. Fox puts out a patchwork of good films, but little to no viable home grown franchises, unlike their competition.

Public perception is largely that Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar are all gold. Disney is kicking all forms of *** right now because they made the right investments. DC/WB is ramping up their universe ( :db: ), Marvel continues to expand upon theirs, and Fox is left trying to shoehorn what properties they have left together into a hollow patchwork.

The real travesty of the Fantastic Four is that they are the victims of Fox's poor planning, development, and overall management. Fox wants to be Marvel without the planning, investment, or creativity. They literally want to be Marvel Studios without having to be Marvel Studios, and would rather get there using the lowest common denominators, and Fant4stic is a testament to that.

It's a crying shame that this has to happen to the FF. Not to mention the unspoken Fox properties that have been degraded due to poor handling (Alien, Predator, etc.). There is a long pattern here, and it is only a matter of time before it hits X-Men a second time. Singer, Vaughn, and Jackman are not going to hang around forever, and most of the new cast is already looking to exit...

/rant

They deserve better than this.

There's no way this film is good..or even solid at this point. I dont remember the last time a blockbuster action movie had an embargo until opening day and ended up being decent. Even Marvel Studios lesser movies had reviews up a week or so before release.

I'm really disappointed.

It is disappointing when you sit down and think about it. Fox actually time to cobble together a decent reboot but they have made bone headed decisions all the way through.

Off topic so I'll hide.

That's a huge part of it. Fassbender said he'll play Magneto forever if they'll have him(if they pay him lots of money). Lawrence is getting out soon. McAvoy as well.

The three on camera heavy hitters they've had consistently since 2000, Jackman, Stewart, and McKellan, are pretty much done.

They've got a potential new cast in the X-Men Apocalypse kids playing Nightcrawler, Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Jubilee(along with new actors and new characters in Storm and Psylock respectively), but all the very popular mainstays will be leaving soon.

As well, most of the behind camera talent will be gone soon too. Bryan Singer has proven he's basically the only person capable of doing this X-Men thing for FOX. Two huge hits, he leaves, and FOX pisses it all down their leg for two movies. Then Vaughn comes along and shoots some adrenaline into it, just enough to keep it all alive, and then Singer comes back and the franchise is rejuvenated again. That's not a coincidence.

Deadpool has LOTS of potential, but they're gambling on fans' love for him and their ability to get adult general audience asses in seats since it's rated R.

And then a Gambit solo movie? We'll just see about that. Old Man Logan is kind of odd to do too.

But yeah. They could have done FF the RIGHT way with a BIG budget and a competent director who LIKED the comics, but nah.

They have only themselves to blame when this movie turns out to be not good.
