Fant4stic: Reborn! - - - - - Part 39

All the posters here have huge text "From the studio that brought you X-Men: Days of Future Past" and the trailers have the same thing. Yeah they are totally trying to sell it as a MCU movie (y)

not all the tv spots here have that...

and even with it.. do you think the general audience really keeps track of what studios have what continuity? and which are Marvel Studios and which are not?

So when can critics give away their reviews?

I shake my head in bewilderment. Ignorance is relative.

So many times.....people in here speak with the voice of the comic book fan....that is to say, they have spent so much of their lives living the comic book related world....they forget that the rest of the world doesn't care that much. It may be vastly different logos to you....but to the rest of the world they see MARVEL. There are many things in their world that they know everything about....but the comic book fan is ignorant of. The point being....the studio know they are ignorant of the differences and only see the MARVEL name....so they show it prominately to lure them in. That's business....it's the way it has been done for decades.

^^^^ this a billion times this

people also have no audacity to understand how much Text and placement is also subliminal... and very important to reading something. If you see something "Big" and "first" that takes immediate Hierarchy and thus to the subject, is read as "most important" the same concept goes into poster design as it does trailer and clip design...

if you see a big red Marvel logo first... and nothing to counter that perception.. yeah.... people are going to think it's a marvel studios film

That's the audiences ignorance then. The Marvel logos are different afterall.

This movie and all Fox Marvel movies before it, dating back to before there was an MCU have used the Marvel (not Marvel studios) logo legally and rightfully, nothing has changed on their part.

They've not misled audiences in the slightest

It is entirely possible to mislead people legally. Politicians do it every day.

Thing is: Yes, Fox can use the Marvel logo legally and rightfully (it is in fact likely a condition of the deal that they must use it)...however....making the Marvel logo more prominent than their own in advertising (and they have in some with this one) does suggest they are rather cynically targeting audience ignorance, trying to hitch an opening weekend ride on the MCU's coat tails. That is indeed misleading, however legal it might be.

You can say people should be better informed, but most people don't care nearly so much about all this stuff as we do. They see that big red marvel banner, they start thinking Avengers, Iron-man, Hulk, Thor etc. It's just a natural reaction.

I'm sure a huge corporation would never do anything shady or dishonest in any way.

This film screened in the UK already. Where are the Twitter reactions?

Of course Fox are trying to fool people into thinking FF is a Marvel Studios movie. It's a smart business move.

Are you talking about the Unlimited screening by Cineworld?

If so, the screening is at 8:15 PM and now it is 7:22 PM in UK.

It is a Marvel film, though. Saying it isn't a Marvel film because it isn't made by Marvel Studios is wrong. Then you discredit every good film adapted from a Marvel comic made before Iron Man because it wasn't Marvel Studios as well. It is still a Marvel film.

Especially movie studios...they never try to pull the wool over viewer's eyes.

There are many examples, but here are couple off the top of my head -

Early 70's just starting actor John Travolta had a 2 minute part in a movie called THE DEVIL'S RAIN. Before it is released he gets on WELCOME BACK CARTER and becomes a star. They release Devil's Rain with posters prominately saying STARRING JOHN TRAVOLTA.

Movie STEALTH is filmed starring Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel, and Jamie Foxx. Before it is released Foxx wins OSCAR for best actor.....Stealth is promoted as a Jamie Foxx movie.....too bad he dies one third of the way into it.

I was almost positive it was screening at 2:00 PM in the UK.

Oh. It says 20:15 in their website. May be there's a glitch in the system, I click 20:15 and it says 3:15 when it redirects me to booking.

Nobody is saying that it isn't a Marvel film, it is because it's loosely based on the Fantastic Four. It is not a Marvel Studios film though, it just flat out isn't.

So when can critics give away their reviews?

There was some ambiguity on that. My belief, based on one thing I had read, was that the print embargo would be lifted tomorrow evening and the web embargo would lift Thursday evening - meaning the first reviews we'd see would be in the Thursday morning papers.

But somebody else said that the web embargo was changed to tomorrow evening.

So we may see something tomorrow evening . . . or not.

I checked last night and it said 14:15 over at the Chelsea theater in London.

Just checked, Chelsea Theater doesn't have a screening today. It has a 2:30 show for August 6th.

There's "Marvel Films", then there's "Marvel Studios" films. The crux of the discussion is not "FF isn't a 'Marvel film", but rather: "it is being promoted as if it were a 'Marvel Studios' film".

Blade, Spider-Man, X-Men flicks, Daredevil, 03 Hulk, Punisher, Elektra, FF, Ghost Rider, even that god awful 'Man-Thing' were all Marvel films...produced by assorted other studios.

We all know what the 'Marvel Studios' films are, but there are a lot of people who are simply unaware there is a distinction between the 2.

"#FantasticFour was amazing! WOW. It's not just a superhero movie, but a real scifi drama."

That came out couple of minutes ago. Also someone else said they were just about to go see it. So many screenings coming up, there should be plenty impressions today and tomorrow.

it really depends on context... but in media, it should not be refereed to first and foremost as "a marvel film"

it's fine and perfectly acceptable if you have a collection of films based on marvel films, and refer to them all as "marvel films" or if you do so among-st your friends.... or even here on the hype..

but the media... be it film, tv and social media news, should not be referring to this film first and foremost as a "marvel film" it creates confusion

I imagine most of those screening the film early, are those who really want to see it... not just "go see it" but "REALLLY" want to... like the midnight showing crowd. I do expect more good reviews from that crowd which shouldn't shock many

Critics are calling this a fantastic blockbuster?

I thought they were all quiet.
