What does Marvel merchandising have to do with the quality of the movie? Or the wholesale abandonment of the source material? Or advertising the movie with the Marvel logo (while excluding the Fox logo) in a way to make this appear like an MCU film?
Merchandise is a big massive form of promotion. It sells the brand more often than not then even the films do. Look at the 80s and 90s where cartoons were made to sell toys, not the other way around

It sells excitement far more than billboards and trailers do

You're glorifying Castro in that comparison. As a cuban I find that disgusting.

No offense intended. My knowledge of internal Cuban politics is quite limited, but my impression was that the general populace rallied around El Presidente due largely to his fearlessness in confronting the U.S.

Lets not turn this into a political discussion.

What. The. ****.

And Marvel's not getting the FF rights back anytime soon, no matter how badly this fails for Fox, imo. At this point, there's so much publicly-vented vitriol between the two companies that it seems like they won't even have the slightest chance of working anything out until a new generation of studio heads takes over both studios.

I'm actually very much not of this belief... Phase 4 seems very likely now..

1) if it's true studios "pay rent" for the marvel properties even if they have the movie rights, the share holders will view this property as a wasted expense and this entire film and franchise as a colossal waste of money

2) FOX loves their X-men, and that's a universe you can actually expand.. they want TV rights to compete with Gotham, Arrow, and Daredevil. Marvel has those rights

3) FOX will likely trade F4 rights for TV rights it costs Disney/Marvel nothing.. and gains them another library for cartoon, toys, movies, and theme parks

4) when Marvel would reboot the F4 will likely largely depend on Spider-Man's success... and how they go about it.. if it's a hit and they restored spidey like Hulk.. then the F4 will be next on bat easily and ready to go for Phase 4

I guess to each his own. I actually liked the casting of Julian McMahon, as I was a huge Nip-Tuck fan. The problem with Doom was in the script IMO. I mean come on guys do you really think Julian came up with the "Marco-Polo", or "Let's all go for a spin" stuff himself?

 Yeah I liked him as well. He had a lot of potential.

Agreed but what if the film itself is not worth promoting? What if Marvel is not happy at all with how their product is being handled? They have no recourse?

The Sony leaks revealed that Marvel warned them that ASM 2 was going to be a failure. But Sony didn't listen. Why can't North Korea hack into Fox next?

Naysayers say this all the time and yet here it is - the year 2015 - and Daredevil, Elektra, Punisher, Ghost Rider, Blade and the biggest surprise of all - Spider-Man - have all returned to Marvel's domain. Never say never.

Exactly what I said! lol!

Yeah based on the leaked Sony e-mails, I am 100% sure Marvel was sending Fox similar correspondence. They most be somewhat in talks with one another as Disney Channel is sponsoring FF and there are several spots running right now on it. That didn't get approved without Feige's input.

I would wager that Fox may have come back to the table after all the crap went down with Trank.

I'm sure Marvel wants to bring the FF and X-men back to the table. It was only back in 2013 when both groups were prominently featured in Lego Marvel, which has been rated as the top Lego IP feature game on several sites including WatchMojo.com.

Marvel owns FULL merchandise rights to everything X-men comic related.. they also own a good majority of Movie related merch (which is why the movie merch isn't getting made) FOX just makes some profit off of movie merch since it is their property.

Marvel does not want to pay FOX anything.. but even more than that... they don't want to promote FOX's version of their properties.. they'd much rather have their properties back home. Unfortunately it's about the name, the brand recognition.. not the "style" or look of the characters... which means X-men and Fantastic Four merch has almost completely been put on a back burner... especially the Fantastic Four. Kids by the toys, the toys sell the movies, and 2nd showings, 3rd showings, and home video releases... lack of merch stops children from being excited about something, and they move on to the next big thing....

and i'd love to be a fly on the wall at FOX lol

Yeah, Julian is a good actor, and if nothing else, his outfit at least looked like Dr. Doom

The new image of Mr tin foil head up there, is absurd.

my guess is as soon as they saw Doom going all "scanners" they said "excellent" and let them air it on disney.. falling right into a trap... parents take their kids to see the "kid friendly" fantastic four... and leave in disgust... angry at the film

more outrage for FOX to handle

Marvel/Disney is not dumb, Fox will not be sued for the film rights.
I know that, I was pointing out as deluded the folks who insist that is a possibility.

Anyway, the only way I can see rights returning is if Marvel cuts a deal for the TV rights. And personally, I don't think they want Galactus and Silver Surfer that badly.

I'll agree to that. It's probably why Marvel flipped out and canceled all FF and X-Men merch last year. They didn't like how the film was turning out and Fox's attempts as salvaging it didn't create a better third act than the rough cut.

If I've learned anything over the years, it's to trust Marvel Studios. Marvel turned Hulk and Daredevil around and they can finally give us the FF we deserve.

I disagree. We know Marvel already asked for Galactus and the Surfer in exchange for an extension in the DD licensing agreement. Norrin, in particular, is huge. He's an A-Lister, the best designed cosmic superhero and he could potentially could star in his own franchise. I have to think that Marvel would put the TV rights in play for a chance to get their hands on Mr. Radd.

Sony had Ghost Rider and still technically has the rights to Spider-Man, but they've realized it's better to play ball. I'm sure after SoV's failure, they decided it wasn't worth keeping.

Lionsgate had Punisher. Given their size at the time (their biggest success being Saw before their Summit acquisition), they probably had a shorter reversion clause...and two lackluster attempts.

Blade is an situation given New Line is WB owned, but it's been over a decade now since they released a Blade movie. More than enough time to launch a failed TV show and let the rights revert.

With Daredevil and Elektra, however, Fox quickly tried to launch a production just in time for either 7 or 8 years after Elektra's release. The risk of keeping Daredevil in proportion to Marvel's First Family juat wouldn't pay off I guess

So...it looks like SHH/Coming Soon removed their Fantastic 4 review?! Interesting...

interesting in deed.. there's been speculation that the heavy ad space on the front page may be part of it... FOX understandably wouldn't want to pay a website to do such a promotion if their reviews are terrible.

Devin Faraci liked it. No surprise there as he's friends with Trank.

I don't understand the obsession of having Dr. Doom get superpowers and go on the mission with the Fantastic Four. You would think they would at least try and change that from the Story films.
