You've seen this?

The costuming for this is more detailed and complex than simple unitards.

you really are that hellbent on going down with the ship arn't you? :whatever:

Personally I didn't think the Tim Story movies were THAT bad. My only real gripe was Jullian McMahon as Dr. Doom and Galatcus being a giant storm cloud.

I'm a little concern how this may affect the Marvel brand and comic book films moving forward.
It won't. People might go see it thinking it's a Marvel Movie, but they will be sure after seen it that it was not (no cameos, no after credit setting up anything, no references to other movies, and of course, the question "how did the quality drop this far?")

I'm thinking more on the RT score, wich I think it's the lowest since CINO (if it keeps the current trend)

Soon it will be official that Tim Story's films are more critically acclaimed than this one.

Just let that sentence sink in for a while.

I pretty much thought that was going to be the case when I saw how off the wall this version was going. Look as flawed as the Story films were, (mostly for a poor underwritten script, that relied on site gags and humor to keep the audience interested), they at least kept you feeling as if the core elements of the FF were there. Sure they screwed up Doom, but even with him there were a few flashes when they got things right. I loved in ROTSS, showing Doom in his lair watching the computer screens and his confrontation with Surfer. Plus McMahon does have that element of liking him, even though you want to hate him, thing about him.

I don't mean this to sound like we should be satisfied with what we got, by no means it was a mess and really regrettable. But what I am saying is it doesn't surprise me at all that this is worse. You don't get better by thinking that the problem with the first two was that it stuck too close to the comics, so the best thing would be to go further away from the comics.

In fact this film seems to take all the things that were wrong about the first two films and run in that direction. The problem in the first film wasn't that it didn't properly explain their powers. The problem was they spent 45 minutes dwelling on the fact that you got a guy who can stretch, a girl who turns invisible, a guy who lights on fire and a rock.

This movie seems to spend even more time dwelling on them dealing with their powers, and trying to find a cure. It's completely mind-blowing how tone deaf the writers were on this one.

I've yet to meet a kid under age ten that didn't love them. In that aspect they were a success, but they were too childish and vanilla for adults. Sad thing is as crappy as TS' version of Doom is he's still closer to the Doom from the comics than this one. Have no idea how they let that happen.

I certainly see them in a different light after this film...

they were certainly on the lower rung of superhero films for the time period... but there was far more spirit of source material in their... they just made several major mistakes...

- Things look
- Tying the 4 and doom's origins together
- Making Doom Norman Osborn 2.0
- Dooms Metal skin and electric abilities
- Dooms all around acting
- Casting Jessica Alba
- White-washing Jessica Alba
- including terrible blue contacts, wig, and "white face" make-up most notably in the sequel
- Reed and Ben's bachelor party dance
- making the first film feel very isolated
- lacking a sense of discovery

etc...

the only things well done in the franchise were the team becoming super heroes.. Ben's "curse", Alicia, and nearly all about Johnny Storm

honestly.. if a reboot with marvel doesn't do a time jump.. then send them into space via those "space flights" that richard bran-son and lance bass were touting about... i don't care, just don't push Doom in on them in the process

Marvel's brand will be fine, though the studio that brought you Days of Future Past may have been dinged a bit.

To me, this is a huge win for fans of comic book movies. Trank and Kinberg made all the wrong choices and, quite inexplicably, aggressively worked to alienate everyone with the slightest bit of affection for Marvel's First Family. The fact that they are now paying the price is a good thing.

me too.. this is all good news.. and the base case scenario for me

Oh my GOD.

"Grrrrr!"

:lmao:

I guess to each his own. I actually liked the casting of Julian McMahon, as I was a huge Nip-Tuck fan. The problem with Doom was in the script IMO. I mean come on guys do you really think Julian came up with the "Marco-Polo", or "Let's all go for a spin" stuff himself?

I have more respect for those who are willing to go down with the FFINO ship than posters who abandoned thread after the first sign of bad news and scurried back to posting about franchises they actually care about.

My problem with Julian is that he doesn't have the Gravitas. He doesn't play the right kind of "entitled" for doctor doom.. he came off more as a prissy trust fund brat then a maniacal ego maniac. The way he delivers lines.. is just not the right way

I seriously cannot get over how bad doom looks. With his stupid gum drop green eyes.

Yeah totally. Or least man up and admit you were flat out wrong. Where's DRZ? Didn't he gloat about celebrating that sweet 80-90% RT score?

Props to Cykes for fighting till the bitter end. :)

You've seen this?

Have I watched the current movie that will be released in a few days....no.

Have I seen pictures, and snippets of the movie from trailers and TV ads....yes.

Have I read the reviews of the upcoming movie that are now being put on line...yes.

So....from what I have seen and what I have read....it is my opinion that the Roger Corman produced movie got the basics right and this new one didn't.

In case you didn't know....the basics are....
Reed, SUE, Johnny, and Ben go on a space adventure , get hit by cosmic rays, and gain super powers.
Corman showed this.
Trank did not.

Doctor Doom has no superpowers and does NOT go on the same adventure as the other four.
Corman showed this.
Trank did not.

Doctor Doom is the ruler of his own country called Latveria.
Corman showed this.
Trank did not.

Doctor Doom has an iconic look that has been in the comics for 50+ years.

C.Lee hitting harder than Thor.

I didn't take anything he said seriously. He seemed to get a kick out of riling up FF fans, as if he were fishing by trailing a baited line behind his boat.

Yes and he (Drz) was on the Ant-man boards trolling when the reviews started in the 60's and the abruptly disappeared. The absolute worst kind of troll, but he developed his reputation, and now he'll have to live with it.
