Merchandise is a big massive form of promotion. It sells the brand more often than not then even the films do. Look at the 80s and 90s where cartoons were made to sell toys, not the other way aroundWhat does Marvel merchandising have to do with the quality of the movie? Or the wholesale abandonment of the source material? Or advertising the movie with the Marvel logo (while excluding the Fox logo) in a way to make this appear like an MCU film?
It sells excitement far more than billboards and trailers do
