Fant4stic Fant4stic: Reborn! - - - - - - Part 40

I really despise it when posters attempt to "fix" my comments. They don't require adjustment. Personally, I don't care for FOX's X-Men films--their understanding of canon, timelines, casting choices and plot-building are ignorant on mindboggling levels.

FOX is responsible for the vast majority of CBM turds we have. Elektra, Daredevil, X-Men: The Last Stand, Fantastic Four, Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Fant4stic...need I go on? So my point still stands--at least in my opinion. They SUCK. They need to stop making CBM movies PERIOD. If you like them, good for you. But it's not "fine" for me. :o

Eh, they're kinda tied with WB: Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Steel, Catwoman, Superman Returns, Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, Man of Steel.... (Now I don't think all of those are terrible, I even love two of those, but the critical consensus on most of those films is mixed to bad, same as for the Fox movies you listed)...Should WB stop making CBM movies, too?

He actually PM'd me shortly after I posed that message, and he gave me this little bit by Paul Dini about his experience with Fox and FF:
... and with that, I realize it's possible to treat the FF even worse than Fant4stic.

Marvel really needs those rights back.

"Why do they have to be in costume?"

Because the Future Foundation is technically a corporation and as a business, they have a logo and wear it because they're part of the same research lab.

Part of me wonders if they actually thought that Fantastic Four shouldn't be a science fiction film? "I know, let's make it a sex comedy! And give it a tragic ending!"

WB doesn't have the option of not making CBMs since they own all of DC. The best we can hope for is that they can figure out how to make them good.

Although I occasionally see some of the DC films in theaters, their relationship with WB is of little concern to me since I am Marvel.

That said, DC has no options for their situation: WB is it for them. Not so with Marvel characters. We have options now and I want Marvel Studios to exercise their options and confiscate all of their properties--but especially the ones "on loan" to FOX. Say what you want, but Marvel Studios has yet to produce a box office bomb. ALL (yes, I do mean "all"--even the less loved Thor solos) of their films are critically acclaimed. They've made household names out of virtual unknown heroes. They are organized and cohesive with their creative approach and they think ahead.

FOX thinks with its wallet and ego. That's why they continue producing one s*** show after another. No thought. No planning. No caring. Just cash grabs.

I'm tired of it.

Bottom line: the director of the movie didn't even like the final product when it was all said and done, so why should anyone else?

I hope it doesn't even make back half of what the budget was, even though it will.

Neither did Jon Favreau or RDJ on IM2. Or Joss Whedon on AOU.

Yeah, but Joss still wound up making a great film. At the very least, I enjoyed it. He just wound up burnt out from the process of having to co-produce all the Phase 2 films to lead up to AOU and then Feige wanted him to add in things like Loki's scepter containing the mind gem, Thor receiving visions of Asgard's destruction and a rift developing between Tony and Steve in exchange for fleshing out Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye.

True, but it was an absolute war zone on the Hype X-Men boards during 2006. I was the acting moderator for that section and it was by far...some of the bloodiest posting I've seen here. We had a user named Gina wrecking threads, a female imposter named "Aunt Petunia" that came out as a man...it was a smorgasbord of drama.

You're forgetting Ricky and his claim to be playing Avalanche.
At one point I wondered if he and Gina were the same person.

Spite apparently. The shoe dropped the moment Trank sent that tweet and people are still making naive comments 100 rotten reviews later.

Just hope that everyone else understands instead of arguing in circles with suspect opinions.

I love most of the Marvel Studios movies, but "critically acclaimed" may be pushing it a little. Don't most of the MCU movies hover in the 60-70 range at RT? Then you have about 4 in the 90's. And The Incredible Hulk may just qualify as a box office bomb.

As for Fox...Yeah, they run a messy X-universe. But I still love most of the X-Men films so I can't complain too much :shrugs:

I loved AOU too. But let's not pretend that the MCU is heaven :oldrazz:

There are 12 MCU movies.

And most of them hover well over 60 percent.

Ant-Man - 80 percent
Avengers Age of Ultron - 74 percent
Guardians of the Galaxy - 91 percent
Captain America The Winter Soldier - 89 percent
Thor: The Dark World - 66 percent
Iron Man 3 - 79 percent
Avengers - 92 percent
Captain America: The First Avenger - 79 percent
Thor - 77 percent
Iron Man 2 - 72 percent
The Incredible Hulk - 67 percent
Iron Man - 94 percent

So five are in 70-79 percentile.

Only two are less than 70.

Proof that Marvel don't make awful films. Everything they've ever done is watchable. They have a lot of quality control and don't greenlight projects which they don't believe in. They have a much better understanding of how a business works. You make quality products and people will buy them.

I don't think Edgar Wright had a positive experience.

I thought Wright's departure was quite amicable. They both mutually agreed that their ideas were not compatible. It was blown up by Wright fanboys.

The people that have had a problem working with Marvel are:

Alan Taylor; complained about studio interference. But seeing how he messed up Terminator, Feige probably salvaged the film. There were reports that Joss Whedon had to fly in to fix the movie. Scriptwriters were brought in at a very late stage to fix it.

Joss Whedon; mostly due to the immense stress of creating a spectacle as big as Avengers.

And while I know that some people may not particularly like Agents of SHIELD, it's better than most TV shows. It may be flawed but it isn't a bad show. Marvel do not make rubbish.

Mickey Rourke also didn't like how his character was written and Hugo Weaving felt that he deserved more screen time. The latter has changed his tune.

To have over 6 movies 80 percent or higher is a pretty good track record.

I mean just to have two other hit movies at about 77-79 percent out of 12 films released so far, yeah that's a great track record for Marvel Studios.

That's not even counting the TV shows. Daredevil Netflix has 98 percent on RT!

Season 2 has been pretty well received. Agent Carter is also very good and Daredevil is a masterpiece. Marvel absolutely gets their characters, so it's no surprise that everyone is clamoring for the Four to go back.

I agree. Fox have failed at everything that isn't the X-Men. (Even then, they really managed to get Cyclops and Deadpool so wrong that they had to reboot everything.)

I'm kinda shocked Fox released this in the state it's in. Felt like there was no middle, and the brief third act made no sense. Really rough. Probably time for Fox to give it up on this franchise.

They had no choice. Unless they released it this year, it was going back to Marvel. They were not prepared to let 122m go down the drain only to have F4 help strengthen their corporate enemy Disney.

They really should have just sold the rights back.
