Rise of the Silver Surfer Fantastic Four 2: Production Update(s)

Bull****. We all say that in the early stages. :)

It's true

I said the same thing as I was scowering the net for the BB script

and as I was reading the script

...in some ways I still regret it

To truly appreciate this post put on some sad piano music while reading it

or the sad Hulk walking away music

Two things I'm waiting to hear:

1) The script is done.
2) Whether or not they'll stick to the target date of July 4, 07. Someone needs to swallow their pride be it Dreamworks or Fox. You don't cut your nose off to spite your face. There needs to be more breathing room or you can forget sequels to both films anytime soon because FF2's budget is gonna be bigger than the 1st I'd imagine so there's more at stake here. I'd love to see a winter 07 release for FF2 and that would be fine by me. Hopefully Transformers will move though.

but there's a reason its called a summer blockbuster cause it takes place in the summer.

According to this film security consultant/location co-ordinator by night's site he's working on FF 2. I guess it's safe to say that Fox have production offices set up in Vancouver now.

If anything it's just another verification that Fox is going forward and getting FF2 on time. Now we just need to wait for the FF2/Transformers game of "chicken" to come to a close. I know some people think there is room for both films...but there isn't. These movies make more than 60% of there money usually in the first 10-14 days...and 85% of that in the first 5 days.

Yup. I do hope it's FF. a little extra post production time would be neat. And TF seems to be on time with all their scheduling. Guess that's what happends when Speilberg is your producer:o

They sure are going fast. Why can't they make a Spider-Man or Batman movie this quickly?

Guess Story and Frost are ready to get into production. But hey, I'd be ready to do it again if I was Story, FF was his big time ticket into Hollywood. No more sh** like Taxi.

^ Marvel's contracts with other studios became stricter and stricter the more powerful Marvel became in the industry. It wasn't neccessary for FF to come out 2 years later but the contract but a shorter leash on the studio to complete the first 3 films. I think they have till 2012 to have the 3rd movie in theatres. They're ahead of schedule.

That may be "4" films by 2012...yes 2012 is the year, but remember the 4 principal actors signed a 3 movie 4 option deal.

^ 4 option deal. I never heard that. If you could dig that up and post it here that would be awesome. The only other movie that was done on was Blade for Marvel if what you're saying is true.

I can't even find the article with Alba explaining the contract. She's the one who revealed a long time ago about the time frame. Can't find it.

That swarmed around these boards back in August/September 2004...who knows where that is...

Jessica Alba on E! said her next two films will be Sin City 2 and Fantastic Four 2.

Avi Arad agrees. This from his MVL conference call today about FF2...

Avi Arad

Fantastic Four 2 actually it’s on the boards today so we can speak to it. It is moving at the brisk pace, the movie is slated for 2007. Again, without addition with the studios same directors, same actors obviously would be a couple of new actors as we add characters to Fantastic Four 2, the movie was extremely well received first domestic and actually we did a better in international. So we have at this point a script, we started the production design a while ago. So we’ve been working on this movie for a while, some times on a announcement for principle photography can be miss leading because the pre-production for us the thinking about Fantastic Four 2 actually started after opening weekend that was so strong and we started planning towards it. So we feel very comfortable at this point and barring any unforeseen issues we tied up a director, we tied up the cast continuing into movie two, I don’t see any potential interference was getting the movie into ’07. As far as exact release date, it’s always subject to changes based on market conditions and competition and so on. But it will be summer 2007 as we know.

Strange....he says they have a script, Variety says they are looking at 2 scripts....Frost has been confirmed, yet Variety says Payne's script is the front runner....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......i think this pretty much tells us we don't know what the hell is going on....LOL

I think Winter season belongs to the Fantasy and/or Family-oriented movies.
We all saw what happened the last time a superhero movie opened up near Christmas.

^ That wasn't really a Superhero event film if you're referring to Blade Trinity, and it also wasn't really a good movie. LOL

They already started shooting "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (opens July 13, 2007) and Transformers (opens July 4th) but no word of the dates when they'll start shooting the next Fantastic Four movie, or if the script is ready.
Not a good sign.

Ummmmm actually Avi says they have a script, and the principal actors start in August, and according to some sources in Vancouver sets are up, security is on, they have started some shooting....So...

Read between the lines of Avi's statement. The're ready or 99% of the way there.

I'm not thrilled with the schedule, but there's not much I can do other than hope for the best.
