Fantastic Four: First Steps General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

I understand and respect your opinion but for me I really am excited for both films but I am slightly more excited for fantastic four for many different reasons. Did you see the concept art of Galactus in rise of silver surfer because it makes you wonder why they didn’t choose it.
I believe I’ve read two different explanations.

Tim Story claimed they didn’t want to have Galactus’ design locked in because they were planning a Silver Surfer movie and they wanted some freedom to create the design later.

But others said a giant purple guy walking through Times Square would have looked too goofy.

I suspect it was a combination of those two.

Hopefully this film will disprove the latter excuse.

I guess I mean post-Endgame new characters. None have really taken hold with the general public, and these might be the first real breakouts.
It depends. Most of the new lead characters were introduced in a Disney+ show. None of these Marvel shows are going to attract the same level of interest as the biggest Marvel movies. I wish Marvel and Disney gave Daredevil, Hawkeye and Moon Knight their own movie.

Shang-Chi was released in September 2021. Theaters weren't even accessible from I live. I had to wait til November to see it in the big screen. Eternals the movie wasn't very good. I imagine if people liked it and the movie was released in 2022. The box office numbers would have been higher.

Deadpool & Wolverine wasn't a reboot, its a sequel just like all 2022/23 Mcu movies. That just leaves Captain America legacy movie and Thunderbolts - movies with lead characters (Sam and Yelena) that were already supporting characters in the previous movies but they weren't even that popular to begin with. Back in 2022, when they were announced. I was like "why are they even making those movies" and it was obvious to me, they weren't going to be box office smashes.

Fantastic 4 finally breaking out in the movies like Avengers, Iron Man and Captain America just feels fitting to me. Back in Endgame, the only big Ips I felt like were missing were the F4 and the X-Men. Back in the Fox era, I wondered why the movies weren't as successful as Spider-Man and X-Men movies, because the potential was/is there.

The script writer from the planned silver surfer said they held back on Galactus to save the big reveal for the silver surfer movie. Apparently they tried to hint there was more to the cloud but the outline was so quick and vague it didn’t really matter in the end and I remember reading the Galactus forum discussion and there was a lot of debate on whether the outline was there. Weta the effects team had to convince fox to allow them to add the outline.

It was too ambitious for Fox to think about a Silver Surfer movie. Maybe if the first FF movie was a critical hit like the first two Spider-Man and X-Men movies with the second film guaranteed to perform bigger (at least 400 million worldwide in 2007), they could have planned those spin offs in advance (like what mcu and dcu are doing now).

We can all have different opinions but I felt it could have worked but the problem with rise of the silver surfer is the climax and lack of personality from Galactus . The surfer made a deal with this thing but it shows no real sentience and the whole thing is disappointing. The cloud effects look cool but the traditional version is even cooler. The movie could have been better if they wrote some of the characters better and gave better characterization. I still like the movie but it definitely has problems.

The problem was the 2nd Ff Movie didn't make enough money hence why a spin-off movie wasn't feasible. Even if the movie wasn't very good, Fox would have moved forward with another ff movie and spin off, if there was enough public interest.

I also think Silver Surfer and Galactus was too grand for the 2nd FF film, well under Tim Story's 2nd FF film. If they were going to introduce both, they should have went 100%, rather than teasing Galactus as a space dust cloud.

You see a glimpse of his outline thanks to weta the digital effects team but it isn’t well defined and makes you feel cheated

The vague outline of a being in there doesn't do anything meaningful. It's still just a personality-less blob of garbage that's completely uninteresting

Yeah that sequel had a lot of flaws but not casting someone as Galactus... GA friggin LACTUS, was its fatal one.

A cloud. Thank God those days are behind us.

The Surfer really suffers as a character in the movie without Galactus to interact with. He gets exactly 3 character scenes the whole movie: in the woods when he tells Sue he has no choice before being captured, when he projects his backstory on his stomach in the lab, and when he has his babyface turn. That's it. Talk about the most barebones, boring way to tell that story. Absolutely no flavor. No spice. And more importantly, NO REASON TO CARE! Having an entity for the Surfer to interact with, like Galactus, who they can ask questions and show their resolve for the mission growing weaker makes for a much more interesting character.

And just to piggyback, it was a big missed opportunity by not letting the Surfer and Alicia Masters have scenes together where she is the one to explain the value of human life to him. Especially considering that Kerry Washington is a MUCH stronger actress than Jessica Alba, but no use in crying over spilt milk.

Did you see the concept art of rise of silver surfer where it shows a more traditional Galactus ?

No, but it ultimately doesn't matter. The movie we got is what we got, and what we got was the most boring and barebones version of that story.

It definitely was massively disappointing which is one of the reasons I am extremely excited for the new one

I went to YouTube, searched Galactus theme, and sorted by upload date. The track is titled Let Us Be Devoured and is about 1 minute 7 seconds long.

What are the current projections?

And where are you guys hearing score music for Galactus, etc.? I've only downloaded the main theme on iTunes so far.
Last I saw, 135-155+ for opening weekend domestically

My biggest problem with the female surfer is no (irrational) jealousy from Ben - which I thought was useful in showing his insecurity regarding his relationship with Alicia.

Is Alicia in this movie?
