Fantastic Four General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

They would've had to introduce both characters much earlier into the MCU for it to build up to that level by the time Doomsday/Secret Wars come. So really... does this tweet tell us anything that wasn't obvious by now?
Not true at all. Doom and the FF could have had lots of backstory and history. Just inform us of it in the movie. This is especially true of a movie in an alternate universe. They can give them whatever history fighting each other they want.

This is the correct answer. They're all coming from a pre-established universe, so realistically Reed and Doom can have a year's long rivalry. And the fantastic 4 will be in avengers movies, I imagine they'll be integral to defeating Doom.

I feel like Marvel has warped expectations around basic storytelling conventions. You don’t need a bunch of movies and years worth of buildup to establish a deep rivalry. You can do it in a single film.

The Prestige, There Will Be Blood, Warrior, Oldboy, the list can go on and on.

An maybe that's why they don't want an pre-established connection... As when it comes to fighting Doom along side the Avengers , they don't want them to have any inside info on how to beat Doom...

Also if you're trying to set Doom up as an Avengers level threat, you can't really say the F4 have already fought/defeated him on their own

Why? Thor beat Loki and he was still an Avengers threat.

And who's to say they've ever actually bested Doom, or maybe Doom has acquired power far beyond what they've ever seen.

Even if Doom has been beaten before, if he gets the Beyonder like powers, then it doesn't matter. His theat level has gone up

Loki himself wasn't the threat, his army of Chitauri, were... an the use of a infinity stones, was

then any pre-connection the F4 had to him would be irreverent, anyway

if they don't bring any insight to how to beat him with his new found powers

Loki was the man in charge of the army, therefore he was a threat. By this logic, any mastermind with an army of minions isnt a threat. The minions are. Flawed logic.

So knowing how a character thinks and thus their weaknesses as a person wouldn't help? Or enhance the story with personal stakes?

You and I seem to see fiction differently

I don't subscribe to "Avengers level threat".
The Fantastic Four (and X-Men) can and have defeated villains just as powerful as the Avengers. With them being introduced, it's time to retire or update that term.

but, by that logic... could the Avengers not have beaten Loki without Thor having had a previous connection to him

It varies.

"Avengers level threat" is just some pr wording. But anyone can be an Avenger level threat if they want to.

Whoever the Avengers are in any movie, they're going to win. So it doesn't actually matter if Thor, Cap, Iron Man. Etc are actually on the team or not. They're going to win cause it's a movie. But is the movie more interesting cause Thor has a personal connection to the villain? Yes. Fiction is better when there is backstory and relationships to build off of.

Well, the Avengers lost that one time during Infinity War. :o
Doesn't count cause Infinity War was Part 1 of a 2 part story. The Avengers and whoever else they fight alongside are probably losing in Doomsday. Cause it's Part 1. The Avengers are going to win by the end of the story

This is a given to me. I wouldn't be surprised if they also included him in the trailers. This movie is coming out in the same month as Jurassic World and Superman.
You want a hook for a new Fantastic Four movie? You put Tony Stark's face in it. Maybe even put it on the poster.

I Hope they lose and the Doom becomes an antihero by the end of it because they need him to be able to neutralise cosmic threats such as Galactus etc
