So I just popped into a TMNT thread on another message board. Previously people were raging against it now they're all looking forward to it since more clips have been released.

Just goes to show how perception can change once (more) footage release :funny:

Perception can change, which is odd why the makers of this film seem to have no interest in changing the perception.

If they are playing this the way I think they are.....they don't care about changing the perception of the long time fans of the CB. They are putting all of their eggs in the basket of the General Audience. They won't need to show them anything for quite awhile....you don't want to start too early, or too late with the GA, so I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing anything until around the time some of the Fox shows start premiering .... may show something with a premiere or two.

To my knowledge that perception in the case of TMNT didn't change because of a press release or social media. They went about their business and relied on actual footage to create buzz.

Back in 2012 Michael Bay told a crowd gathered at a Nickelodeon conference that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were members of an alien race. After considerable fan backlash he turned the guys back into mutants. Just like Trank and Kinberg responded to longtime fans after they complained about the grounded & gritty approach and the cast that didn't resemble the characters as they've been depicted for over half a century, only exactly the opposite.

While not as detailed a description as how you described the costumes, yes, I read it as they have costumes, not just wardrobe. Of all things to bring up, why bring up costumes. It's too out of the blue for it to not have any merit.

Because shortly before Kinberg made that statement, Kate Mara said this:

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Fantastic-Four-Kate-Mara-Has-Idea-Her-Character-Has-Suit-42496.html

"I don't know that there is a suit. People keep saying that to me, but I don't even know that there is a suit. Maybe there is. As of now, I haven't tried on a suit,"

And that caused a furor. And you'll note when Kinberg responded to it, he didn't say 'uniform' or anything else so specific but used the much more general 'costume'.

I feel like I need to address (what I think is) an elephant in the room. A lot of people have said that the absence of FF from this year's SDCC indicates that whatever Fox is doing, they don't care too much about swaying the opinions of die-hard fans.

But the thing is, Comic-Con International is so massive, and has grown so far beyond the mere die-hard comic fans that non-comic TV shows and movies promote there regularly, and it's covered across myriad major entertainment outlets.

The way I see it, it's not exactly a niche audience they're avoiding by blowing off SDCC.

That is where my thought process came into play. Then I realized that that interview was back in April when she was promoting Transcendence.

That is true....but still, the bigger number of the General Audience is not going to SDCC, my family are HUGE movie buffs, major moviegoers, averaging at least 4 per month, and they have no clue what SDCC is.....and if you don't have something that is going to catch the attention of ALL of those audiences, then why take the chance. Your TV series are in a different mode of production and promotion...many already have that audience of ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE, and have a solid history, while others may be promoting a new series, that series IF COMING OUT IN SEPTEMBER, already has a major amount of footage shot, and no longer even in post production....AND, no history of failure.

This franchise does not have a solid history, still filming, major backlash of the core long time fans, hoping for new fans, fans of the actors, and GA to pull them through....why take a chance?

Kate's interview was April 10th, Kinberg's was April 21st, and I think there was little, if anything, in between (other than all of us freaking out) :cwink:.

Ooooh, for some reason I thought all of this discussion about Kinberg was from a more recent interview.

According to the live blog, everybody at the Fox presentation is asking about FF, but they're presenting a bunch of non-comic book films.

I think it's a big mistake to not at least have something.

. . . I'll keep watching the blog, just in case.

Changing from mutants to aliens is a small and insignificant compared to changing the tone. Grounded and gritty is a overblown phrase in association with this film. All it is really is a selling point to distinguish it from the previous film. It's not a real indication that the tone will be so grounded the fantastic elements will be lost.

Interesting....and kinda funny.

Yep, two different interviews. In this latest one, he was backtracking Kate's comments about reading the comics now that they've put her uniform comments behind them. Let's see what she says that he has to unsay next week. :funny:

And I feel bad for Kate, because I fell like she's just trying to do a job and telling it like it is. Trank, Kinberg and Fox are the ones calling the shots.

Well, she wasn't NOT telling the truth in the April interview. She didn't know anything about the project, they hadn't started filming yet, she hadn't seen a completed script, STILL hasn't seen a completed script hahaha....and hadn't been fitted for a uniform.

The only weird thing I see is that in April she had read a few of the comics, and in July she was told no to so she didn't. That is kinda confusing....

Maybe in April she had perused a few issues only..... :)

^^"Telling it like is"? o__O Everything she tends to say is "i don't know", "no idea", "yeah not sure".

Hope they are giving a teaser soon enough, too many rumors, too little facts.

I can't blame an actress for being part of a poorly organized effort. If the grocery store down the street is a mess, I blame the management, not the guy making minimum wage to stock the shelves.

I'm staring at it and it sure looks real.

Not quite sure about the design. Huge improvement over the first film, but the chin's a little too sharp.

Overall, the most encouraging thing about this film so far though!

Usually when there's something negative we get tons of responses in a short while, and now we got the first potentially positive thing and nobody is here yeesh.

The design looks promising!

My minor quibble is I'd like to see the brows protrude a bit more. But that can easily be fixed in the final CG look...
