Fantastic Four reborn! - Part 7

I dunno, I can watch Origins and laugh and cry (mostly cry) along the way whereas the Fantastic Four movies just leave with me with a blank expression.

The FF movie make me sad, but X-Men Origins just makes me angry, that was crap of the levels of The Last Airbender.

We're a good 20 months away from the release date and we virtually no nothing about the film, of course there isn't much hype surrounding it. Still plenty of time to build awareness. I don't put much stock into random "this'll suck!" comments found elsewhere. I understand where they're coming from, but those sentiments can easily be overturned with the announcements of the cast, story, villain(s), set photos, trailers, etc.

The overwhelming majority of FF fans want them to be rebooted into the MCU, and announcing a hot, young, interracial twentysomething cast is not going to overturn those sentiments. Marvel has elevated B level characters like Cap, Thor and Iron Man to A list movie properties, and the First Family deserves the star treatment that the MCU can provide. It would be a damn shame if FOX were to go ahead with this doomed to failure project solely to cling onto character rights, and I'm hoping yet another delay will eventually lead to cancellation.

Well, for me Origins at least had Jackman. As much of a fugazi as the movie was, at least it had a compelling main character behind it played by a terrific actor. FF aside from some intermittent good stuff from Evans and Chiklis, just had no saving graces.

I'm personally hoping the rights revert as I think the FF would fit in great with the MCU. Also, because the FF was among my favourite books as a kid, the MCU feels like its missing a little something without them (they were Marvel's first book after all).

I would have felt the same about mutants (Claremont & Byrne's X-Men were among the first I'd be looking for each month in the good old days) but the mutant summer event tie-ins way back (fall of the mutants, inferno etc) and additional X-titles put me off those books for a good while (far too much of a good thing). Actually the 90's put me off reading any comic books for a good while.

All that being said, if Fox do go ahead with this then I hope they will do a good job with them: Doing a bad film won't do the property any favours in the long term. Even if it bombed and Fox gave up the ghost Marvel would not be in a hurry to try and reboot from a bad reboot any time soon. Would likely be at least another 5 or more years before another attempt would be made.

And given the new release date it will have to be good to do well, but I have to say what little news we have had so far does not fill me with confidence at the moment. That could all change once we see who is cast, get some info on the story and so on, but for now, I will remain in the camp hoping that Fox are stalling like they did with Daredevil and the rights do revert.

Personally, I just think they'd be better off back with Marvel. It's up to Fox to prove me wrong.

Them setting a date does mean that they are planning to make the film. It might fall apart for all I know but they are planning to make it right now and it's delusional to say otherwise.

First of all, they aren't setting a date. They set a date of March 6, 2015 back in 2012. Now they're saying: "Whoops, that's not going to happen. . . uh . . . how about June? Maybe we can do that."

Maybe they'll make it, maybe they won't, but it's clear they don't have enough interest in this property to commit, spend any money or, in any way indicate they take this film seriously.

I never said they wouldn't make the movie. I have been consistent in saying that they probably will make it, but I am certain from their actions up to this point that their level of commitment and interest in this property is minimal.

I have no doubt that Fox probably wants to make this movie, it's just that they have a hard time actually doing it. As I've already said, Fantastic Four in general is a tough nut for Fox to crack in a production sense, and this was before all the baggage of failed past films. Hence all the writers that have come and gone, the current script revision that's taking a while, and the project being stuck in limbo until that's done.

I have alot of doubts. Fox would rather play poker with marvel and hope to receive twice what they're worth... Both are seeing who caves first. I guarantee it

This I agree with. Them hoping to have a cohesive universe with Xmen and F4...............they are like night and day and really can't coexistence. Does anyone have any idea when the rights revert? How long did Daredevil take? Elektra was considered a DD movie.

And they have gone from saying their script (co-written by Trank as well I understand?) was fantastic ages back to just recently saying it's being effectively rewritten by Kinberg. Can't have been that great then, could it?....Plus the shooting schedules, first June, then September...When next? No casting confirmed as yet, all rumours,...

I dunno...I kinda think they might be stalling until DOFP is out. Assuming that's released within the deadline for shooting the FF (which may extend to early 2015) they might be waiting on how well that one does before committing fully (to do it right it can't be done on the cheap after all). If DOFP dissapoints (doubtful) they might decide the FF is a potential 3rd strike they don't need.

So for now I'm taking the new release date no more seriously than the previous one. Until they actually start shooting the release date doesn't mean that much really (got nothing to release until something is in the can, or at least in pre-production, with set building and the like, having commenced).

Of course the next few months should tell us if they are going ahead or not for that release date. As ever with this one it seems, wait & see.

That's kinda up in the air. It was assumed Daredevils rights were extended by Elektra, but apparently Fox do still have her, so I've no idea how that works.

But in theory, going by the DD/Elektra example it could be late 2014/early 2015. Maybe...

Unfortunately for us fans the suits of both companies are keeping these contract details all very hush hush.

And even then that's a bit wishy washy ... Im stilll not sure i believe fox has elektra .

What it does do is completely alienate fans like me that fell in love with the FF reading John Byne's run growing up. You literally couldn't pay me enough to see this reboot.

That's a large fanbase they are acing out. Just to note, I spent over $200 this weekend alone buying Thor tickets for my family and I'm not done yet. FF won't get a dime from me.

Damn shame.

Who knows at this point how these deals work.

I was shocked to find out Namor is still at Universal, even though that studio hasn't been doing anything with it for years.

Some hacker should do a wikileaks style disclosure of all Marvel license deals :woot:

Yep they want to see Shield, Sam Jackson, Scar jo and and any other heroes that can take away from the Fantastic Four. Focus more on leading up to another Avengers film than the title characters. Yay!

And then perfect Disney/ Marvel with all the movies and properties they've made still haven't greenlit one film where the above the title lead isn't a white male. Gosh I love having no complaints about how Marvel are running things.

Yeah, to be honest the crying from the "I hope it reverts back to Marvel!!!11" group does nothing for me. If you spend your life check marking every second that goes by without anything being announced, then I guess it can appear as a troubled production. It's like, relax, Fox has just under two years (or more if the release date is changed) to get this thing out. There's a lot going against this film (namely that release date), but I'll hope for the best. :yay:

Name one Marvel film from Fox that doesn't have a white male lead.

The move to June seems like a big loser considering this franchise needs to be rebuilt from the ashes. It will get swallowed in the summer. So I'm skeptical this date holds if Fox is serious about getting a decent return on this murky investment. I'd bet Ant-Man makes more that summer on a smaller budget, even with it's own puzzling release date.
