This FAQ has been jumping around. Mainly due to adding new stuff. Here's the final, readable version:

A1. What will the film be about?
The film will mostly center around a vigilante named The Spirit. He framed himself, went into hiding, and became a crime fighting superhero. He will not have a documented origin and will be the Spirit from the opening minute. Frank Miller has made it clear that Eisner never wanted an origin in the film itself.

B1. Who is the main villain and what exactly are his powers?
The main villain in the film is The Octopus. He kill anyone unfortunuate enough to see his face. Scary, terrifying, and spooky. He is all of them combined with a little more.

C1. Who has been cast in the film?
GABRIEL MACHT AS DENNY COLT / THE SPIRIT.
EVA MENDES AS SAND SAREF.
SCARLETT JOHANSSON AS SILKEN FLOSS.
SAMUEL L. JACKSON AS THE OCTOPUS.
SARAH PAULSON AS DR. ELLEN DOLAN.
LOUIS LOMBARDI AS PHOBOS, ONE OF THE OCTOPUS'S HENCHMEN.
STANA KATIC AS A ROOKIE COP NAMED "MORGENSTERN".
DAN LAURIA AS THE POLICE COMMISSIONER.
JOHNNY SIMMONS AS A YOUNG DENNY COLT.

D1. What will the film document in term of original source material?
This is interesting because the source material for The Spirit isn’t that common in the today world. Frank Miller is using panel’s from various different series of The Spirit to make up the visual aspect of the film. He is excited to start production.

F1. Who will direct & write the project?
Frank Miller.

I'm adding more and editing, composing, and making a very long and sleek F@Q will be available.

Actually, I thought the Spirit originaly died and came back and then whent into hiding. Why would he frame himself ?

he didnt frame himself, he was shot by dr cobra and fell into the doctors chemical that put him in suspended animation so everyone thought he was dead, but the chemical caused him to live, so he then lives as the spirit and the only people who know denny colt is alive are the commissioner and ellen. he didnt frame himself.

the film is about the spirit against the octopus. there is no origin story, you have to know about it going into the film. and the story is also about the spirit meeting sands serif for the first time.

Specialty finance and investment company Continental Entertainment Capital has signed on to partially finance Will Eisner's The Spirit, now in post-production for Odd Lot Entertainment and Lionsgate, says The Hollywood Reporter.

CEC, an affiliate of Citi, partnered with funds managed by Qualia Capital to provide partial production and distribution financing for Odd Lot, which has sold most international territories for the film, including a multiterritory deal with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group.

"With 'Will Eisner's The Spirit,' we believe in the producing capability, judgment and business acumen of Odd Lot, the creative genius of Frank Miller as well as the great cast involved in this exciting project," said D. Jeffrey Andrick, CEC's managing director and head of its Los Angeles office.

Lionsgate Loves Frank Miller's Spirit

Superhero Hype! has learned that Lionsgate is really digging what writer/director Frank Miller is doing with Will Eisner's The Spirit. They've already signed him for two sequels to the graphic novel adaptation and, from what the studio has seen, are expecting it to be a blockbuster when the action-adventure opens on January 16, 2009.

"The Spirit" tells the visceral, action-packed story of a man (Gabriel Macht) who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) -- who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face -- has a different mission: he's going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader.

Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Sarah Paulson, Paz Vega, Jamie King, Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons and Louis Lombardi co-star.

More on The Spirit at the NY Comic Con

Source: New York Comic Con
March 28, 2008

The New York Comic Con announced the following today:

New York Comic Con (NYCC) today announced Lionsgate will be at its 2008 event promoting "The Spirit," based on the classic comic book series created by Will Eisner and written for the screen and directed by Frank Miller.

At NYCC, production partners Lionsgate and Odd Lot Entertainment will present an exclusive first look at "The Spirit" on Saturday, April 19 in New York Comic Con's IGN Theater, featuring the world premiere of the film's teaser trailer. Mr. Miller and Ms. Mendes will be on hand to speak about their respective roles in the upcoming film, which is produced by Deborah Del Prete, Gigi Pritzker and Michael Uslan. Co-CEO of Odd Lot Entertainment Deborah Del Prete and Michael Uslan, President of Comic Book Movies, will also be speaking. MTV News Correspondent Kurt Loder will moderate the panel and the teaser trailer will debut to a global audience on MTV.com later that night in high definition, and on MTV the week of April 21. NYCC will also feature the debut of the film's first teaser poster, which Mr. Miller and Ms. Mendes will sign in a formal autograph session scheduled for 5:00pm.

New York Comic Con is the second largest popular culture event in the United States and features guests including Neil Gaiman, Mike Mignola, Grant Morrison, and T.M.Revolution.

Frank Miller is an American writer, artist, and director best known for his film noir-style comic book stories. He is one of today's most widely-recognized and influential graphic novelists. His works include "The Dark Knight Returns," "Sin City," and "300." Eva Mendes can be seen in films including "Training Day," "Once Upon A Time in Mexico," "Hitch," "We Own the Night," "Ghost Rider," and this fall's "The Women." She plays Sand Saref in the new film. "The Spirit," which debuted in 1940, chronicles the adventures of a masked vigilante working on behalf of the police and is still regarded today for its deep and diverse narratives spanning film noir and crime drama as well as adventure, mystery, horror, comedy and romance.

"New York Comic Con welcomes the legendary Frank Miller with open arms, and we're delighted to have an actress of Ms. Mendes's caliber join us," Show Manager Lance Fensterman said. "It is a true honor to have them with us, and we earnestly thank all our friends at Lionsgate and Odd Lot Entertainment who are making this spectacular event possible."

Adapted from the legendary comic book series created by Will Eisner, "The Spirit" is a classic action-adventure-romance written for the screen and directed by genre-twister Frank Miller (creator of "300" and "Sin City"). It is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: he's going to wipe out Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader. Surrounding him at every turn are Ellen Dolan (Sarah Paulson), the whip-smart girl-next-door; Silken Floss (Scarlett Johansson), a punk secretary and frigid vixen; Plaster of Paris (Paz Vega), a murderous French nightclub dancer; Lorelei (Jaime King), a phantom siren; and Morgenstern (Stana Katic), a sexy young cop. Then of course, there's Sand Saref (Eva Mendes), the jewel thief with dangerous curves. She's the love of his life turned bad. Will he save her or will she kill him? In the vein of "Batman Begins" and "Sin City," "The Spirit" takes us on a sinister, gut-wrenching ride with a hero who is born, murdered and born again.

"The Spirit" will be released theatrically on January 16, 2009. More information about "The Spirit" is available here.

January for a blockbuster?

Heh... my first thoughts too. I don't care what anyone says… when you slate a movie for January, it's not because you think it's going to become a blockbuster.

However, I didn't come here to rain on any parades. The Frank Miller adaption, Zak Snyder directed, 300 already broke the March stigma... so much that they've intentionally slated Snyder's next project, Watchmen, for the same slot in 2009. Perhaps the Spirit can do for January what 300 did for March. I still do, however, take all studio enthusiasm with a grain of salt. What are they going to say? It looks like ****, but we think you should still go see it.
