This one takes place in Hope County, Montana. Probably gonna deal with some extremist militia or something. Full trailer this Friday.

Visually its going to be an incredible location. As for how they'll do a "far cry" story? No idea.

Personally I liked the more exotic locations from 3 and 4, definitely wanted to see more of that. But I still look forward to seeing what's up.

No offense to Montana, but this seems like a massive downgrade in terms of location. I want more exotic locations for Far Cry. Island full of pirates and drug gangs, Nepal full of militia and soldiers, prehistoric Euroupe filled with cavemen...Hope County, Montana.

One of those things really, really doesnt belong. Even if the bad guys are hillbilly militias how is this game going to justify your character waging a one man all out war in the middle of America where the FBI, Marshalls, and Local Law enforcement would immediately shut that **** down? With the other games they could get away with a single person going on a murder spree because law enforcement and social order was nonexistent in the loactions of those games. But unless Montana is a failed state or local and federal law enforcement dont exist in the game's version of the USA I fail to see how it can explain or justify itself.

Hm...that's a pretty damn good point. I wanna see how this write this off.

From the lush forests of Asia to.... Montana.

I'm sure they chose it because of the current political climate. Everybody wants to get in on the act.

Yea the only way they can justify that is if in this USA the govt has fallen or something and those services you mention just don't exist.

IDK how they're gonna pull this off.

Ive thought of two ways they could kinda pull this off. Both are hard to swallow, but...

The game could use the Arkham excuse: Hope County has been
evacuated and quarantined. No police or law enforcement of any kind operating within the county's borders. Basically leaving the county to the bad guys. But in this day and age even if something so crazy was to happen in an american city the Government wouldnt need to have law enforcement in an area to stop an out of control militia war in a quarantine zone. Theyd just drop the national guard in or send in drones for surveillance. Which I suppose the game could do but that would force the player to harm actual good guys so Im not fond of that idea.

The other least absurd possibility is the game takes place in some absolute BFE locations of Montana that dont interact with outsiders and local law enforcement is corrupt. That might allow the game to have the main character fight in an american county and justify no outside law enforcement elements being called in.

And for good measure the main character could be a special operative that is sent in by the government to stop the bad guys.

Have you seen that show on WGN America called Outsiders? It would probably be like that. They didn't get renewed but I watched a little of it.

I'm in for more Far Cry but I hope this location turns out to be better than it sounds!

Maybe its a Rambo type situation in which the police are the enemy? That could actually be really cool.

Im not sure they could sell that as a far cry game. They cant market a far cry game where the player's goal is to resist arrest and assault and injure law enforcement that are just trying to do their jobs. And it wouldnt be a far cry game without definitive bad guys and lots of violence so the entire police force would have to be corrupt to justify violence against the law enforcement that is pursuing the main character. That would be a tricky thing to sell.

Possibly, but wouldn't the military be sent in after the 100th police officer has had an arrow shot through his dome? I mean this setting truly is odd considering what the series has done before. I'm not saying it can't work, just that I'm not creative enough to see the solution

I feel like after The Purge came out everybody around the world thinks we're all in a state of weird anarchy over here in certain areas, lol.

Well I usually get these games anyways and I'm a fifth generation Montanan and still am in Montana . It will be interesting to see how they interpret it. I will say though Montana is actually quite diverse and has a lot of beautiful exotic areas from the Badger Two Medicine to Paradise Valley, Glacier National Park ( right outside my door ) Yellowstone National Park, the Yaak A lot of eastern Montana has beautiful rolling plains.

Yea I'm not worried about the location at all, visually any way. It'll be a gorgeous setting.

I see people acting like this is really edgy and controversial commentary, but I don't know it seems to me like turning rural white Americans into faceless goons to murder is the safest ****ing thing imaginable.

100% right.
