Maybe he got bored and Paul decided to give him this one? Though why five years to do that?

Hadn't thought about the punishment angle, but that's an interesting way to put it since I wonder if Nikki might have slightly reconsidered or not pursued Emmit with the same vigor if she knew that he didn't even mean to kill Ray. Not to mention that he'd already confessed to what he'd done. Guess she just wanted justice in her own way. But when she trains her gun towards the officer, even though she was intending to hit Emmit, she signed her own death warrant.

I actually thought Nikki's death was punishment for trying to kill the officer, but everyone else thinks it's for trying to kill Emmit.

Maybe Wrench was just waiting for the heat to die down before going for Emmit. Still doesn't explain why he was divinely allowed to kill Emmit, though.

The explanation I saw on reddit said that Paul Marrane/The Wandering Jew sent Nikki on a mission to fight evil. He told her that thing about an eagle and she had some trouble remembering what he said so he told her that she will remember it when the time comes. She tried to recite it before killing Emmit and she still couldn't remember it completely. Implying that Emmit wasn't the man she was supposed to kill.

The finale was pretty great. However, this season felt like it took too long to get things started, kinda like True Detective Season 2.

It could be the officer as well, but the fact that the show made a point of showing Emmit ducking makes me think Nikki was aiming for him, and maybe the officer was just in the line of sight as well.

For Wrench it could be that he wasn't given a mission like Nikki was.

That makes a lot of sense. The Wandering Jew, God, a higher power, the universe (however you want to look at it) gave her a second chance, conditioned on her doing the right thing. She let her need for personal vengeance get in the way of her quest for justice, was willing to take an innocent life in the process, and as a result she blew her second chance and it was taken away.

'Fargo' Creator Reveals First Season 4 Details

Within the Fargo universe, there is a book: The History of True Crime in the Mid West, containing tales of crimes both major and minor, across a wide breadth of American history. When the book opens its pages once again, the next chapter will fall firmly into the past.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Fargo creator Noah Hawley opened up about his vision for the fourth season of the FX crime series, expected to arrive in 2019 (though it hasn't officially been renewed yet). As with the second season of Fargo, which owes its origins to the 1996 Coen Brothers movie of the same name, Hawley plans to tell a story set in the past.

"I now have an idea that's less in the corner of my eye and more in front of me," says Hawley. "I don't have a lot of time right now to focus on it. What I can say is that it will be another period piece."

The first 2 seasons are some of the best seasons of TV to me. Like up there with The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad 3rd was ok but I don't think I'll revisit. Very much looking forward to season 4

Yeah, I hope it's more like the first two seasons than the last season.

Was Season 3 not good? I only watched the first episode, then kind of lost track.

It's not bad but it's kinda mediocre. I did not like how they handled some of the characters. It's still very much worth a watch. And it had probably the best final scene of the seasons.

Yeah it's not bad by general tv standards, but it was a letdown.

I was impressed with the villain, if nothing else Hawley's done well in that department consistently.

I still enjoyed Season 3. While I'd have to watch it again to see how I compare it to the first two seasons, I still enjoyed the character arcs, in particular how elusive Varga was, the ambiguity of the ending, Nikki's bond with Ray, and as well as her teaming up with Mr. Wrench. Oddly enough, I think I found these characters and more this time around a bit more intriguing to watch compared to the authority figures, much as I loved Carrie Coon as Gloria.

And it, for my money, probably had one of the more unique episodes of the series with "The Law of Non-Contradiction" when Gloria went out west, met up with Mac from Always Sunny, and we got that mini-cartoon about the helper robot from that Planet Wyh story.
