Vin Diesel just announced at CinemaCon that Universal Pictures has set a July 11, 2014 release date for Fast & Furious 7! No other movie is scheduled for that date, but Maleficent opens a week earlier and X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled for the week after.

Continuing the global exploits in the franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead the returning cast of Fast & Furious 7. James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series, and Neal H. Moritz and Vin Diesel return as producers.

I guess this means no Rock unless if they managed to film after Hercules.

Despite my concerns about rushing, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited. I'll follow this franchise for as long as it lasts.

I understand this is Universal's most prominent franchise right now but this feels so rushed. Especially when they're willing to do it without Lin and possibly The Rock. Both of whom revitalized this franchise.

I don't understand why they feel they need to rush this out for next year, are the studio that low on tentpole options?

1 year gap? This is quite early. The general public might get burnt out of FF.

They do have Despicable Me 2 coming up but aside from that not much. SW&H sequel, another Bourne movie, more Jurassic Park.

What worries me is the release date is July 2014, and they start shooting in Sept 2013. THAT IS SERIOUSLY 2 RUSHED, 2 FURIOUS and I'm worried the series might end on a wimpier. I don't think Universal realizes what it has: a golden franchise which might crash with the 7th installment.

I really hope it ends on high note... With FF7 & Hercules starting production more or less at the same time, I wonder if his role in FF7 would be greatly reduced.

They might have Gina taking the lead as the law enforcer with Johnson sitting most of this film out... There is talk of a Hobbs spinoff, so that might be why they won't really be concerned to get him into FF7.

Whatever the case maybe I just hope this franchise ends n high note

I wonder if Justin Lin left because of the one year turnaround. Perhaps if they had kept to a looser schedule, he might've stuck around for one more.

They have Jurassic Park 4 and their deal with Illumination Entertainment for their animated films. They need a reliable performer for next year, and Fast 7 seems to fit it.

And the press says that Hercules starts filming next month, so it's entirely possible The Rock will be finished shooting that in time to start Fast 7 in September. Remember guys, James Wan has to finish Insidious Chapter 2 (which hits September 13) and promote The Conjuring (which hits mid-July). He has to get those out of the way before he can start work on Fast 7 proper.

Universal used to have tentpoles up the ass (yes, I know what I just said.)

After Battleship they're gun shy.

I didn't expect Battleship to flop as hard as it did (the masses like um strange films) but I could have told them it wasn't going to be a hit and I'm just a dork on the interwebs.

The Fast Seven cast should be an homage to the Magnificent Seven or 7 Samurai.

I hope we get to see a teaser trailer for Fast 7 in front of Fast 6.

So filming coincides with Expendables 3?

No
Statham
for EX3 then.

We don't even know when Expendables 3 would film...do we?

August according to Stallone. I don't mind, I want more screen time for Dolph and Snipes.

That's pretty bleak I admit, but they could damage their biggest cash cow with this choice.
