According to the report, the new Fatal Frame game is being developed by Tecmo Koei and Nintendo.

The last time Tecmo Koei announced a Fatal Frame game, it was Project Zero 2: Wii Edition, a remake of Fatal Frame II. Now, it looks like a Nintendo platform will be getting another Fatal Frame game, as Famitsu reports that a new title in the series is being developed for Wii U.

According to the report, the new game is being developed by Tecmo Koei and Nintendo. While details on the new game are light for now, the report also reveals that there are mixed media projects for the series being planned. This includes films, light novels and comics.

I can see a lot of potential for this with the Gamepad. Did the last one ever get localized, though?

This has my attention. I hope it isn't too gimmicky though.

I didn't really play the last one but some people I know that did say it was kept for the Japanese audience and they some how played that version instead.

New Live-Action Fatal Frame Movie Announced. April 23, 2014 . 2:57pm

Hot on the heels of the announcement of a new Fatal Frame game for Nintendo’s Wii U, we’ve got word of a new movie as well.

Hot on the heels of the announcement of a new Fatal Frame game for Nintendo’s Wii U, we’ve got word of a new movie as well. The movie will be out this Fall in Japan, according to a report at Cinema Today.

The movie will cast Nakajo Ayami and Morikawa Aoi as two of the actors in the film. They’re both models from the Japanese magazine Seventeen. The movie is an adaptation of an adaptation—It will follow the novelized version of the original Fatal Frame—and will be set in an old Japanese-style dormitory.

Nakajo plays Aya Tsukimori, who’s involved in some sort of cursed magic at the dormitory. Morikawa will play the part of sleuthing classmate Michi Kazato who’s investigating mysterious disappearances at the dorm.

This is probably part of the ongoing transmedia projects planned for the series that we mentioned in our earlier report. However, a Hollywood Fatal Frame adaptation is planned after the new game wraps up as well. (Thanks, Anime News Network)

Tecmo Koei announced a new Fatal Frame game for Wii U a couple months ago, and while we’re still waiting for details on the game, 4Gamer shares a first look at the upcoming movie adaptation, along with a brief synopsis of its story.

The story takes place at a school dorm located in an occluded mountain town. That’s where Aya lives, a young girl who keeps to herself in her room. However, one day an incident occurred on campus…

One after another, students began to mysteriously disappear. It wasn’t long until they discovered their dead bodies, after they’ve drowned. For an unknown reason, prior to their disappearance, it was said that they heard Aya’s voice after looking at a photograph.

Her voice would tell them “please, lift my curse…” and on the photograph, was a girl who looked just like Aya.

A classmate by the name Michi steps in to investigate the matter, as she felt a strange suspicion that Aya had something to do with the incident. However, after visiting Aya’s dorm room, she finds it completely locked shut.

Rumors began circulating that Aya was the culprit of a curse that only affects girls—the midnight curse. Michi eventually began to feel the effects of the curse. And one day… out of nowhere… the real Aya suddenly shows up in front of her.

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden Revealed For Wii U. July 16, 2014 . 10:09pm

The concept of the game comes from a “Japanese-style” horror, which will revolve around Japanese buildings, using cameras, and the fear of “getting wet”

Koei Tecmo producer Keisuke Kikuchi made an appearance during the NicoNico Live Fatal Frame series stream to talk about the latest of the upcoming new game on Wii U, which was revealed as Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden [零 ~濡鴉ノ巫女~ Zero ~Nuregarasu no Miko].

The concept of the game comes from a “Japanese-style” horror, which will revolve around Japanese buildings, using cameras, and the fear of “getting wet”.

It takes place in a big mountain that has a big lake and graves. According to Kikuchi, it seems like we’ll be seeing a lot of damp areas, and quite the scary figures, like traditional Japanese ghost girls who appears completely drenched in water.

The protagonist Yuri Kozukata has an ability she’s had since childhood, where she can bring those who’ve been “spirited away” to another realm and no longer visible, back to the regular world. After accepting a request to find a certain someone, she steps foot into the mountain that the game is set in.

The Wii U GamePad will have a camera feature that shows things that you normally can’t see with your eyes, and it will also be used as some sort of weapon that can be used while facing enemies.

The story unfolds the mysterious events that occurs in this mysterious mountain. During the trailer, it showed Yuri watching a girl slit her throat, only to have her disappear… followed by a mysterious figure appear right behind Yuri.

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden will be released on September 27, 2014 in Japan.

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden Will Have More Open Areas. July 17, 2014 . 2:54am

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden is Japanese-style horror game, where you’ll use the Wii U GamePad as the Projection Machine, a camera that is used to seal vindictive spirits.

Koei Tecmo just revealed the latest in their horror series with Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden during their NicoNico Live stream. 4Gamer shares a few more details, including a bit on the story and a closer look at some screenshots.

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden is Japanese-style horror game, where you’ll use the Wii U GamePad as the Projection Machine, a camera that is used to seal vindictive spirits.

The game takes place at the Hikayama mountain, a place also known as the “mountain of death,” often visited by those who choose the path of death.

While past games of the series took place in Japanese mansions, this time around, there will be plenty of open areas, and spiritual places that will test your courage.

As previously reported, the mountain seems to rain a lot, with plenty of flowing water, which Koei Tecmo feels that it will bring out a feeling of uneasiness and caution from the players.

The “Projection Machine” will have you use the GamePad like a regular camera, to look at the spirits’ positions and movements. It can also be used to check the length and breadth of your surroundings, or even film what’s going on, which Koei Tecmo says it should bring a new sense of fear.

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden will be released on September 27, 2014 in Japan for Wii U.

New Fatal Frame Game Borrows Some Technology From Dead or Alive 5.July 21, 2014 . 2:00pm

Koei Tecmo’s studios appear to be sharing technology once again.

Last week, Koei Tecmo revealed Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden along with a fair bit of information on the Wii U game. Following its reveal, Team Ninja, the developers of the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series, shared an interesting tidbit on Twitter.

Team Ninja tweeted: “While you may have noticed after watching the video, the latest Fatal Frame game that was announced the other day uses some technology from Dead or Alive 5!”

Team Ninja, as you may know, are part of Koei Tecmo, the developer of Fatal Frame. We’re not exactly sure what kind of technology Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden borrows from Dead or Alive 5, but some Japanese fans speculate that it seems likely that it has to do with the “wet” characters drenched in water that were shown in the trailer.

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden will be released on September 27, 2014 in Japan for Wii U.

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden Details More On Its Characters. September 5, 2014 . 5:31pm

A recent issue of Famitsu magazine tells us more about the characters in Fatal Frame: The Black-Haired Shrine Maiden.

We’ve been introduced to the protagonist of Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden, who visits a creepy mountain to look for someone. While details are still light, a recent issue of Famitsu magazine tells us more about the game’s other characters, and what they’re doing at the mountain.

Yuri Kozukata:

01211_thumb.jpg

She is the game’s protagonist, who has a special power that allows them to see and bring back those who’ve been “spirited away” to another realm and can no longer be seen. She works at the Cafe Kurosawa.

Her powers also allow her to touch others and see their memories and secrets. She steps foot into the Hikayama mountain in order to find Hisoka Kurosawa, the owner of the cafe who has gone missing.

Ren Houjou:

Ren is a writer who has no luck selling his books, but has been acquaintances with Yuri for quite a while. He follows his intuition and gets in trouble for acting on it a bit too much at times.

He visits the mountain in search for material for his next book, which has something to do with a “photograph of mourning” that seems to be a part of some sort of practice that goes on in the area.

Miu Hinasaki:

Miu is a young girl who is out looking for her mother who disappeared. Due to her mother’s disappearance at a young age, she never understood the love of a parent, and considers herself an empty existence.

She heard rumors about her mother being seen at the mountains, and decided to go look herself.

Hisoka Kurosawa:

The owner of the Kurosawa cafe. She also has a job of finding things that people have lost. After going to the mountains to find a young spirited away girl, she has gone missing. In her profile image in the magazine [not the one above], she looks like she’s holding a Camera Obscura.

Rui Kagamiya:

Rui is Ren Houjou’s assistant. She calls Ren “sensei,” but also warns him about his actions and attitude towards life. She’s almost like a family-figure, who takes good care of Ren.

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden Shows How The Camera Obscura Works On Wii U. September 10, 2014 . 12:55am

The video starts out with Hisoka Kurosawa handing over the protagonist Yuri Kozukata a projection device, or the Camera Obscura, that can be used to see things that normally can’t be seen.

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden is set in an eerie mountain where you’ll be looking for others while solving all kinds of mysteries. The game’s latest trailer demonstrates how you’ll be doing just that, with the help of the Camera Obscura.

[YT]djXseay5FFM[/YT]

The video starts out with Hisoka Kurosawa handing over the protagonist Yuri Kozukata a projection device, or the Camera Obscura, that can be used to see things that normally can’t be seen, and help find things that have gone missing.

Yuri is then shown walking around Hikami Mountain with what looks like ghosts wandering about. Hisoka explains that they’re shadows left behind by people in the past, and prompts her to follow them.

Next, they explain how you’ll use the Wii U GamePad to look for hidden objects that normally can’t be seen, similar to the way the Camera Obscura has been used in past games.

The spirits will also be aggressive, so you’ll need to use the projection device to attack them. Getting closer shots at the spirits will do more damage to them, and can even allow you to pull off multiple attacks afterwards if done correctly.

A voice is then heard telling Yuri that she can no longer escape from the mountain, followed by a look at the game’s key characters at 3:07, starting with Yuri, Miu Hinasaki, and Ren Houjou. You can read more about them in our earlier report.

At the end of the trailer, they show Miu telling Ren that she has decided to go back to the mountain, and asks if he’s willing to take her there. He insists that it’s too dangerous, but then sees some sort of image behind her after she turns her back, as she says “I’ll be going then.”

Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden will release on September 27, 2014 in Japan for Wii U.

Fatal Frame Wii U’s Wetness Meter and more detailed, TGS 2014 trailer and screenshots
Published 1 min ago. 17 comments.

Survival horror due out next Thursday in Japan.
ff1-600x337.jpg

In the midst of this year’s Tokyo Game Show, 4Gamer has released a small preview for Fatal Frame: The Raven-Haired Shrine Maiden, which is due out in Japan for the Wii U next Thursday, September 27.
The details cover a lot of familiar ground, particularly with respect to attacking with the Camera Obscura, as well as making contact with spirits during their death throes. However, newly mentioned is the presence of what’s called a “Wetness Meter.” Per the game’s rainy motif, the Wetness Meter goes up as characters get increasingly wet in the game, which brings with it pluses and minuses. Attacks with the Camera Obscura get stronger the higher the meter is, but it also results in a higher encounter rate with malevolent spirits, as well as increased damage taken from their attacks. Nevertheless, taking their attacks can also build up meter.
Furthermore, the game features a status ailment known as “Yominure.” Acquired either by getting attacked by enemies that have turned darker or from certain other special attacks, Yominure results in lowered defense and reduced vision, as well as deteriorating health. It can be cured either by defeating all of the enemies in the area or by using an item in the game called “Purification Fire,” which dries characters off.
A handful of new characters were also showcased. They are:

Purple-haired kunoichi joins upcoming horror game.
Ayane-Playable-Fatal-Frame-Wii-U.jpg

Dead or Alive‘s Ayane is a playable character in Fatal Frame: The Raven-Haired Shrine Maiden for Wii U, Koei Tecmo announced.
Ayane’s mission is available after you clear the game. In it, the purple-haired kunoichi visits the game’s deathly mountain setting to save a new character named Tsumugi Katashina.
Tsumugi, voiced by Natsumi Takamori, in contrast to her older half-sister who was nurtured with affection, was alienated from her family and grew up with a complex. She is not able to communicate well with others, and after desperate attempts at suicide, she is spirited away to Hikaiyama mountain.
To track down Tsumugi, Ayane will follow her “Purple Thread” navigation. Ayane’s gameplay is based around sneaking. She must sneak around and avoid ghosts. If noticed, players must react in accordance with the situation. You can use the “Soul Stone Lamp” to temporarily halt their movement and cut your way to safety.

I think that had some DOA skins in the other games, but they've went beyond with that, so that's cool.

People are speculating that a live stream going right now(?), I believe, will confirm localization of this. Apparently, the stream is not only being shown in EU and NA through a site called NicoNico (I think), but apparently it's been translated into English with the title being called Fatal Frame: Oracle of the Sodden Raven, which is no the literal translation as seen before.

I would think Nintendo would want to, something to fill out 2015, but no word yet points to unlikely.
