XSEED Games announced today their lineup of games that will be showcased at E3 2016, which includes Fate/Extella, Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns, Akiba’s Beat, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II, and more.

The company will showcase Trails of Cold Steel II for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Corpse Party for Nintendo 3DS, along with indie titles in Shantae: Half-Genie Hero on PS4, Wii U, and PS Vita, Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity for PS4, and Exile’s End for PS4, Wii U, and PS Vita.

Also announced was Akiba’s Beat for PS4 and PS Vita, which is currently set for a Winter 2016 launch. More info on all the titles will be available at E3.

"We’re excited about the expansion of our portfolio with the addition of titles from high profile franchises such as Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star and follow-ups to our acclaimed properties with STORY OF SEASONS and The Legend of Heroes," said Shinichi Suzuki, President & CEO of Marvelous USA. "Alongside independent labors of love including Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, we are very much looking forward to showing off these games for the first time at E3.”

Here are more details behind the titles from the press release:

Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star
[Platforms: PS4, PSVita; Release: Winter] – Expanding upon the extensive and much-beloved Fate universe with a standalone story from acclaimed series writer Kinoko Nasu (of Fate/stay night fame), Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, developed by Marvelous Inc.,transpires on the new world of Extella through a diverse cast of “Servants” – ancient warriors of legend and imagination, always at their Masters’ orders – who survived the Holy Grail War that took place on the Moon. In a future ruled by the all-powerful lunar super computer Moon Cell Automaton, these champions now duke it out for dominance over this digital realm, known as “SE.RA.PH.” This story takes place after the events described in Fate/EXTRA, and depicts the world after that previous Holy Grail War. Players will experience the story from the independent perspectives of the three heroine Servants and face off against foes from a variety of Fate productions, including characters fromFate/stay

night, Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/Grand Order, in fast-paced action. A new form change battle mechanic debuts in this entry to match its series-first gameplay style, transforming the player-controlled Servants and granting them considerable powers that allow them to devastate enemies and take formidable challenges head-on.

Meet the latest confirmed playable Servants.

Marvelous has released new information, screenshots, and a short gameplay video of Fate/Extella, its upcoming “Servant battle action” game in the Fate series for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita.

The new details introduce Artoria Pendragon, Gilgamesh, and Mumei—three newly confirmed playable Servants—as well as some of the game’s systems. If you missed it, we previously detailed Nero, Tamamo no Mae, and Attila.
Get the new information below.
■ Characters
Artoria Pendragon

  • Voiced by: Ayako Kawasumi
  • Class: Saber
  • Noble Phantasm: Sword of Promised Victory (Excalibur)
  • Fate-Extella_06-06-16_001.jpg

Gilgamesh

  • Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki
  • Class: Archer
  • Noble Phantasm: The Star of Creation that Split Heaven and Earth (Enuma Elish)

  • Fate-Extella_06-06-16_002.jpg

A hero of Mesopotamian mythology. He calls himself “The Oldest King of Heroes.” The oldest in human history, he is “the king who became a legend.” He is an arbitrator who, although having inherited the blood of a god, lived among the people. In order to possess the originals of every Noble Phantasm, he specializes in the killing of heroes.

Mumei

  • Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe

  • Noble Phantasm: Infinite Creation of Swords (Unlimited Blade Works)

  • Fate-Extella_06-06-16_003.jpg

■ System

High-Speed Servant Action
Fate-Extella_06-06-16_004.jpg

In Fate/Extella, players can freely run about the battlefield while controlling a Servant, and trigger a variety of combo attacks with a combination of weak attacks and strong attacks.

Additionally, the battlefield isn’t limited to just the ground. Players are able to avoid swarms of enemies with an aerial dash and launch a concentrated attack. Furthermore, violent attacks from enemies can also be eclipsed with a guard.

Area Supremacy Battle

Fate-Extella_06-06-16_005.jpg

An Area Supremacy Battle sees Servants attacking camps known as “Sectors” in a battle to obtain “Regime Matrix” keys that indicate control of the area. Although you’ll win if you collect 15 Regime Matrices, each sector has a different number of keys.

Rather than just destroy the enemy, fighting while considering things like “prioritizing attacks from a Sector with more keys” or “fighting while protecting your own Sector targeted by an enemy” is also important.

Extella Maneuver

Fate-Extella_06-06-16_006.jpg

An Extella Maneuver is a special attack that can be triggered by consuming a gauge. It can collectively damage those surrounding the main enemy it strikes. Furthermore, by consuming more of the gauge during the attack, a continuous attack becomes possible, allowing you to deal great damage to an army of enemies all at once.

Data Share

Through PlayStation Network, you can upload your PlayStation 4 or PS Vita save data and transfer it between platforms. This is called Cross-Save. Additionally, through Ad-hoc mode in the PS Vita version, you can exchange profile cards between users. And if the save data of a PS Vita version that exchanged cards is transferred into the PlayStation 4 version, you can get additional items for use in the game.
Fate/Extella is due out for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Japan on November 10. It will be released in standard and limited editions. A western release has not been announced, but is rumored to be in localization at XSEED Games.

Identity

Saber's True Name is Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus(ネロ・クラウディウス・カエサル・アウグストゥス・ゲルマニクス,Nero Kuraudiusu Kaesaru Augusutusu Gerumanikusu?), the Fifth Roman Emperor. She had the reputation of a notorious tyrant whose rule was made up of schemes and poison as she oppressed all religious forces, especially Christians, and the Roman Senate during the period from 50 to 60 AD. It is believed in one theory that the Book of Revelation was written as a reaction against said oppression. She was regarded in the same light as the devil as the assumed Hebrew pronunciation of her name as a emperor, Nero Caesar being pronounced as "NRVN QSR", equates with the "Number of the Beast". This name and the "Beast of Babylon" refers to Rome itself and it is not an alias given to her as an individual.[2]

Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star feels like Koei Tecmo’s beat’em ups, only more frantic and furious.

20 comments Read >

Xseed had quite an active booth at E3 2016. While games like The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity, Corpse Party, and Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns all had their place, it felt a lot like Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star was the true highlight of the booth. From booth art starring various Servants, to the stand-ups of Nero Claudius (Saber) and Tamamo-no-Mae (Caster), it felt like E3 was a celebration of the return of the Fate series to the west.

Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star is a frantic game. The level on display at E3 put players in the shoes of Saber (Nero Claudius) as she dashed around a map, attempting to hold ground while accomplishing specific objectives. It’s an experience very similar to Koei Tecmo’s Warriors/Musou series, though it felt quite different. Objectives come up as you play, but the level here wasn’t one where you could coast from the most immediate needs and win. It’s more of a balancing act.

At the top of the screen is a gauge indicating how much territory the Servant you’re controlling holds, compared to enemy Servants and their armies. Even if you’re doing everything right, it’s very easy for your own side to gradually fall under Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star’s constant assault. There are named soldiers on the field, various anomalies, and defeating them offers the same sort of benefits as challenging named enemies in a Dynasty Warriors game. However, at E3, it didn’t make enough of a difference to greatly influence the battle.

Time was best spent rushing to complete more major objectives. As an example, there were plants scattered across the field. These would spawn more enemies. Defeating one in a region would help bring it under your control. Given the need to control territory, another thing Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star has in common with Musou, dashing to areas with these plants to destroy them is critical.

So is defeating enemy Servants. There were two notable characters that appeared as opponents during E3’s demo. One was Lancer (Elizabeth Bathory) and the other was Archer (Gilgamesh). Both of these characters were more powerful than the typical named opponents who would appear on the field. They’d even get special introductory sequences leading into the fight with them.

There were even special attacks along the lines of each Warriors’ games’ characters. Once a gauge filled, it is possible to make Saber transform into a slightly more powerful version of herself with Form Change. This was exceptionally helpful against fights against other Servants, though it is also a good move to use when there are a large number of enemies on a field. Not only did she take on a more streamlined white and red outfit, but all of her attacks had fire attached to them.

With all these similarities, it may be difficult to see how Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star is different. The difficulty is part of it. In Koei Tecmo’s similar beat’em ups, someone can have multiple warriors on their side and the ability to use these allies to complete challenges. Here, Saber was on her own. There was no one else to rely upon when things started to go south. She’d have to rush to an easier to accomplish objective to keep things going in her favor.

It also feels like there’s a bit more happening. Which may seem odd to say, since games in this genre are constantly throwing large numbers of enemies at players. In Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star, it felt more overwhelming. The build at E3 didn’t offer a lot of guidance, which made things even more chaotic. It was up to an Xseed representative to provide helpful tips that would get a player successfully from one challenge to the next, conquering areas along the way.

I suppose I’m a bit concerned, though Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star is at a very early stage. It seemed like a hectic experience with overwhelming odds and less information than one would expect from this sort of experience. Perhaps it’s because I’m more accustomed to Koei Tecmo’s games, with their more defined objectives and more noticeable gains for even more minor accomplishments.

But then, there’s plenty of time for Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star to find its footing. The game isn’t coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita until November 10, 2016 in Japan. There’s plenty of time to work out balance issues and put in the kind of additional information that will help someone better accomplish the kind of goals that will assure them supremacy in an area.

Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star will come to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita on November 10, 2016 in Japan. It will be released in North America in winter 2016.

Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star
is probably the game that impressed me the most during E3. Which is a bit strange when you consider that I know pretty much nothing of the Fate franchise outside of the first two seasons of Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA.

As such, I really didn’t know what to expect when I saw it on the show floor and was worried about not being able to understand anything going on. Thankfully that is not the case and the game is well worth looking at for both newcomers to the franchise and veterans, from what I’ve been told. But let’s get to why this game is going to be compared to Dynasty Warriors by everyone.

This is only a small fraction of the armies that will fall beneath your blade

I love the Dynasty Warriors franchise and Dynasty Warriors Gundam is in fact the reason I bought an Xbox 360. So for me, the best praise I can give this game is that fact that I kept looking for Koei Tecmo branding on the booth or game. Instead, I was amazed to learn this was done in house at Marvelous.

They have made one of the only games that I’ve seen able to go toe-to-toe with the Warriors franchise in look, style, and feel. And that’s not to say the game outright copies the formula, it improves on it arguably. It’s a game that certainly fits right in with the Warriors franchise legendary hack and slash combat, but also comes into its own by adding its own tweaks. First though, let’s go over the basics.

Fate_EXTELLA_-The-Umbral-Star-Nero_01-1.jpg

One thing I will say upfront, this is a very pretty game and the PS4 handles it like a dream

Like many games of the genre, you’ll be controlling one character who will take on an army of thousands. And I do mean thousands. I actually saw a kill count that went beyond 10,000 while watching someone else play the game. The fact the PS4’s hardware was able to keep up with just how many enemies are on the screen is astounding.

I never noticed any frame drops or slowdown. Now on the other hand, you may think that means this game is far too easy if you can rack up kills left and right, but as any Warriors veteran will tell you, just crank up the difficulty and watch those foot soldiers become a massive threat. While I didn’t get a chance to play with the difficulty during the demo, I think it’s safe to say there will be an option to do so. With that covered let’s talk combat.

Nero’s special attacks are nothing to underestimate. She will burn all those who oppose her to cinders

Attacks also very much follow the Warriors style with your regular attack being one button and then being able to press a different button to activate your strong attack, which changes based on after which regular attack you use.
In addition, you’ll have access to a special attack which will consume squares under your health meter. How long your special goes for depends on how many of those squares you want to spend, with each successive move costing one additional one. So for example I could use all three parts of Nero’s special, but it would cost a total of six squares (1 + 2 + 3). Also each character will have access to a transformation that drains using a gauge above your health bar. I used the transformation against the stage boss, so I didn’t get a ton of use out of it, but it was rather helpful and seems perfect for getting out of a tight spot.

Finally, there’s the Noble Phantasm. I did not get a chance to use this ability as it requires you to find three pieces of a circuit. These pieces are hidden throughout the stage, though for the demo the boss had one piece as well. You need to prevent the boss from using her own Noble Phantasm in order to get that piece, which wasn’t too difficult. From what I’ve been told however, this is pretty much the strongest thing in your arsenal and is best saved for the stage boss. Speaking of stages, let’s talk about the battlefield itself.

Say it with me now: “This hand of mine is burning red!”

The battlefield is connected by digital circuits which allow you to move from area to area. This actually cuts travel time down quite a bit and keeps the action quick.

Be careful though as some areas can house traps. In my case, I got caught in a “Servant Slammer” and if I didn’t get out fast enough, I would have lost the mission. Your success or failure is determined by a meter at the top of the screen consisting of several flags. These indicate how close you are to conquering the map. If you can fill your side, a portal to the boss chamber will appear. If the enemy fills their side though, you lose. You fill your meter by taking over areas of the map, but this isn’t as simple as just wailing on enemy troops. In addition to the mini-bosses which will be guarding each area, you have “Plants”.

Plants are basically mobile enemy spawners and should be your first priority. These things will constantly spawn troops whose only goal is to take over your areas. This can spell disaster if you let too many of these things live and the enemy starts taking over too much of the map. It’s a careful game of offense and defense which gives a good feeling of tension that sometimes can be missing from these types of games. You can’t just simply waltz through the enemy; you need to do some thinking as to the best way to proceed. With that said let me close this out.

Tamamonomae was the boss of the stage I played and as you can see, she can hold her own.

Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star was a very pleasant surprise and really just a joy to play. If you’re a fan of hack-and-slash games, then be sure to pick this one up.

And if you know nothing about the Fate franchise, don’t worry. I’ve been told this game requires no previous knowledge and will tell its own story. I’ll be looking forward to learning more about this when the game launches, but until then I should probably go watch the third season of PRISMA☆ILLYA in anticipation.

While the two fiercely compete for control, a third power led by Attila suddenly appears.

Attila, who starts her invasion with the intent of “destroying civilization,” drives the helpless Nero and Tamamo no Mae into a corner.

What is Attila’s goal? What are the intentions of the Servants that support her? Now begins the threeway life-or-death battle of the world of the moon.

The following choices are provided:

You can make your prediction by filling in the your Servant of choice’s corresponding number in the form at the website and hitting enter. Polling will end on July 18 at 10:00 JST and the results will be announced on July 20.

The second Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star Japanese TV spot will broadcast during the late night anime block on Tokyo MX from July 20 to July 27.

■ Strengthening Techniques

Moon Crunch

Fate-Extella_07-14-16_001.jpg

“Moon Crunch” is an ability that uses the magical power of the Moon Cell to form change into new armor. By building up and triggering the Drive Gauge, not only can you greatly increase your attack power, you can also perform a Guard Break attack to penetrate your opponent’s defense.

Moon Drive

Fate-Extella_07-14-16_002.jpg

“Moon Drive” is a strengthening technique in Servants who do not possess the Regalia that uses the magical power of the Moon Cell to boost your status.

■ Noble Phantasms

Fate-Extella_07-14-16_003.jpg

“Noble Phantasms” let you unleash powerful trump cards activated by releasing the user’s true name. To release a true name, an external Magical Circuit known as the “Phantasm Circuit” is required. By collecting three Phantasm Circuits scattered throughout the stage, Servants can activate their unique Noble Phantasm.
Enemy Servants can also trigger their Noble Phantasms, but by attacking them while releasing their true names, you can stop its activation. Since the Servant will drop Phantasm Circuits when activation of their Noble Phantasm is interrupted, you should recover them and capitalize on the next attack.

■ Command Spells

Fate-Extella_07-14-16_004.jpg

“Command Spells” are a Master’s proof of absolute authority over a Servant. Through Command Spells, you can “Revive” and “Limit Break.” These two skills should be used strategically to achieve victory. Normally, you can only use Command Spells three times, but with the power of the Regalia, you can replenish your uses during battle.
Revive
If a Servant has used up all of his or her strength, you can consume one Command Spell to revive them.
Limit Break
By using all of your Command Spells, you can unleash power beyond the limits of a Servant and for a fixed period of time fight in a strengthened state.

■ Code Cast

Fate-Extella_07-14-16_005.jpg

A Master cannot directly participate in battle, but through “Code Cast,” he or she can support the Servant with simple techniques.

Code Casts have various effects, such as strengthening, recovery, and defensive boosts. It’s also possible to fight alternating the commander and lieutenant Servants.

Since Code Cast is embedded into a Mystic Code (formal wear), the Code Cast you can use will change as you change attire.

■ Mystic Code

Fate-Extella_07-14-16_006.jpg

The simple techniques available via Code Cast can be changed by changing Mystic Codes (formal wear). You can create Mystic Codes through item crafting. Crafting items consumes “QP” and “Strengthening Bones,” which are acquired during battle.
There are Mystic Codes of various traits, including support-style and recovery-style Mystic Codes. Also, even with the same Mystic Code, abilities change depending on the simple techniques embedded at random.

■ Leveling Up

Fate-Extella_07-14-16_007.jpg

Servants will level up and grow as you battle. By leveling up, a Servant’s stats will increase and they’ll acquire new skills.
Outside of repeating battles, by consuming the QP (Quantum Pieces) obtained during sub story battles, you can raise your Servants to the same value as your highest level Servant.

Tamamo-no-Mae is one of the Servants who won her way through the Holy Grail War of the Moon together with her Master. She’s a Caster-class Servant with a variety of different magic skills. She can be a bit of a shrewd character, but she’s always obedient and admirable around her Master.

Europe getting it the same time as North America.

Fate-Extella-EU-Winter-2016.jpg

Marvelous Europe is bringing Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita both physically and digitally across European and Australian territories in winter 2016, the company announced.

In North America, the game is due out this winter as well, and in Japan it is due out on November 10.

Here’s an overview of the game, via Marvelous Europe:
Developed by Marvelous Inc, Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star takes place after the latest iteration of the franchise’s recurring battle royale, the Holy Grail War, where ‘Servants’ – ancient warriors of myth and legend – fight to reign supreme. The events of this title follow those of Fate/Extra, in which the world of SE.RA.PH is controlled by the all-powerful lunar super-computer known as the Moon Cell Automaton. In the digital realm of SE.RA.PH, the Holy Grail War is over, but the land’s new ruler faces challenges and threats from all sides. Those Servants who survived the war now find themselves drawing up tense and unlikely alliances, preparing for a conflict that may tear SE.RA.PH apart…or destroy it entirely.
In Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star players will follow the narrative from the independent perspectives of three Servants, facing off against foes from all over the Fate franchise. Characters from Fate/stay night, Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/Grand Order appear, populating SE.RA.PH with familiar and new faces alike. In true genre fashion, combat is fast, hectic and powerful, with diverse skillsets and varying playstyles spanning several Fate ‘classes.’ With breathtaking Noble Phantasm attacks and astounding Servant transformations, the Fate franchise has never looked better.
Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star brings together renowned scenario writer Nasu Kinoko, original creator Takashi Takeuchi & character designer Arco Wada, a TYPE-MOON original music soundtrack, and accompanying Japanese-language voice acting provided by the likes of Sakura Tange, Mamiko Noto, Ayako Kawasumi, Rumi Okubo, Maaya Sakamoto and many, many more, making this the ultimate Fate package for fans and series newcomers alike.

The latest on the upcoming Fate action game.

Marvelous has released the latest information and screenshots of Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star, introducing recently confirmed characters Cu Chulainn and Li Shuwen, as well as some new gameplay mechanics.

Get the details below.
■ Characters
Cu Chulainn

  • Voiced by: Nobutoshi Canna
  • Class: Lancer
  • Noble Phantasm: Gae Bolg: Soaring Spear that Strikes with Death

  • Fate-Extella_08-22-16_001.jpg
The Child of Light of Ireland. He looks violent, but is actually friendly. Nevertheless, he’ll go all out when it comes to battle. This time, his cursed Crimson Lance Gae Bolg is of the Anti-Army specification.

Li Shuwen

  • Voiced by: Kunihiko Yasui
  • Class: Assassin
  • Noble Phantasm: No Second Strike

  • Fate-Extella_08-22-16_002.jpg

A master of Bajiquan, the true essence of a warrior. He is no murderer, but as a result of his skill has killed many of his opponents. He considers an encounter with another warrior a place of mutual readiness and conviction, where death is inescapable.

■ Attack-Type Programs

In the digital realm of SE.RA.PH, not only are there Servants, there are also rulers of the domain known as “Attack-Type Programs” that aim to thwart your invasion. These Attack-Type Programs boast various features and capabilities.

Soldier

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_003.jpg

Although their ability is by no means high, they’re a close-combat type that swarms in groups. If you’re unprepared, their sheer number may overwhelm you.

Commander

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_004.jpg

An aggressor and commander-class Attack-Type Program. Its specs are much higher than that of a soldier, and it leads them into battle.

Sniper

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_005.jpg

An archer-class Attack-Type Program that attacks from a distance. Since it doesn’t fight at close range, you have to close in on it to repel it.

Dreadnought

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_006.jpg

A large Attack-Type Program that far surpasses others. Since it can prepare its attack without interruption from the little damage it receives, you’ll become the victim of a powerful attack if you approach it carelessly.

Plant

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_007.jpg

A special Attack-Type Program able to create aggressors. Not only do the aggressors protect the area around him, it can come and invade other sectors, so destroying it should be made a priority.

Recon

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_008.jpg

An Attack-Type Program that attacks from the air. Its bombardment power isn’t very high, but it’s a troublesome creature that could paralyze you if it hits you.

■ Attribute Attacks and Status Ailments

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_009.jpg

Attribute attacks are attacks accompanied by an element—fire, thunder, ice, poison, etc.—that can induce a status ailment on the enemy. Some abnormal statuses deal a lot of damage or limit the enemy’s actions, so you should try to use attribute attacks proactively with the aim of inflicting status ailments.
Abnormal states include:

  • Poisoned State: Gradually reduces HP.
  • Burned State: Increases damage received.
  • Shocked State: Unable to attack for a fixed period.
  • Frozen State: Unable to move for a fixed period.
It should be noted that enemy attacks and sector traps can also induce abnormal states on the player.

■ New World of the Moon
The three parties of Fate/Extella will battle throughout various areas in the New World of the Moon, such as areas heavily impacted by the effect of its ruler, or areas that reproduce IF possibilities.

Mare Aurum

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_010.jpg
A Roman-themed area ruled by Nero Claudius. It has a dazzling atmosphere about it, much like Nero herself. There’s also a concert stage, for some reason.

Mare Luxuria

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_011.jpg

An ancient Kyoto-themed area ruled by Tamamo no Mae. It has a Japanese-style taste, featuring lines of Sakura trees and Shinto shrines, but there’s also a chaotic disco area.

Mare Melum

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_012.jpg

A world where another Holy Grail War that was once fought has the potential to happen again. It features temples towering over sacred grounds and new urban-esque skyscrapers.

Mare Origo

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_013.jpg

A world of origin and chaos where the top Servants rule. It features an area resembling a castle garden, as well as a crumbling palace.

■ Map Gimmicks

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_014.jpg

The opposing party can use various tricks and defense mechanisms to defend against your invasion of the sector.

Tamamo no Mae, for example, can trap Nero’s party within a sector, who won’t be able to escape until all of that sector’s enemies are destroyed.
Gawain has a skill called “Number of the Saints” that increases his power through sunlight. Whether you forcibly beat on Gawain or fight him after rendering his skill useless by taking control of the sectors where he collects sunlight is up to the master (you).

There are also “neutral sectors” that aren’t controlled by any party. If you arrive in a sector before the enemy party, you can gain control of that sector by finding its “Lost Matrix.” To find a Lost Matrix, you’ll need to rely on the noise that it emits as you draw closer to it.

There are also sectors where powerful “Sector Traps” are planted. You can defend against these traps by using Code Cast to cancel its attribute effect just before the trap activates. You can check where Sector Traps are located on the mini-map.

■ Items

Fate-Extella_08-22-16_015.jpg

You can obtain various items, either as drops from defeated enemies or from item boxes on the map, that will restore your health, increase your Extra Maneuver gauge, or have other effects.
