For me:

1. Danny Elfman's 1989 Batman
2. Shirley Walker's Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
3. Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard's Batman Begins

The 1989 theme is sorely lacking in the other installments. The fact that the cartoon reused some of it really makes it even stronger in it's association. The other theme songs will never truly be "Batman" to me.

Quite honestly, all of them kick ass, even the score from Schumachers.

But, if I have to choose, it's Elfman all the way.

The Schumacher score is way too bombastic, even for those films.

Elfman's. I never got quite the kick out of the score from the Nolan films that I did out of Burton's.

Hans Zimmer and JNH for me, with Elfman's a very close second. Hell, the Shirley Walker one is a very close second as well, they are all excellent, but I think that as a whole, I prefer the BB/TDK ones.

The Dark Knight and Batman Begins the others are all irrelevant to me.

Batman 1989 had the best Score.

The Dark Knight theme - while cool - hasn't quite grown on me yet (I'm sure it will now that the dvd is here to be watched whenever I choose). So good memories and the general kick a@@ness of it had me vote for the Elfman score. Still get a charge to this day when I hear it (but uhh ... I get the same charge from hearing "Batdance", "Party Man" and "Scandalous" by Prince too :cwink:).

Batman Returns wasn't listed, so I voted Batman Begins.

Elfman. Beyond the shadow of a doubt. A grand theme for a grand character.

Can't quite remember all the scores but it's hard to beat Zimmer & Co.

I agree. Elfman's is the best, but I think they're all great, even the BF score.

Elfman's was top-notch for that version of the character, but Nolan's Batman IS Batman to me, and Zimmer and Howard's score complements that beautifully. One of my favorite scores of all-time.

Well, here's the thing: If you're looking for a better film score, then you're probably going to go with Zimmer and Howard. But, if you're looking for a more iconic Batman theme, it's gonna be Elfman. Without a doubt.

shirley's score from mask of the phantasm is quite possibly the greatest musical score ever.
