Oldman. He's the most hands-on and capable Gordon we've seen outside of the comics.

Gary Oldman for me, I was never impressed with many of the actors in BB but Oldman deserved so much more screentime, the perfect Gordon based on 80's/90's comics.

I think Pat Hingle was a perfect Gordon based on the Golden Age orignal version of the character, an affable, likeable, slightly gruff and composed character.

However, Gary Oldman is beyond perfect as the more traditional version of Gordon. Not only does he look spot on, but he brings a vulnerability to it. of course, we should rememeber that Oldman has a much bigger and better defined and written role than any other Gordon. Gordon is a supporting character in the Nolan films, whereas the other Gordons are basically there to call in Batman when the **** hits the fan.

Does...
Is Gordon holding a big box of pedophile?

Oldman, followed closely by Hastings. Oldman's Gordon is probably the first live-action Gordon who's portrayed the way he should be: as an overworked cop who tries his hardest to get a handle on things and trying to NOT have to fall back on a guy in a cape and mask all the time. All the previous versions basically cried out for Batman any time some spook in a ski mask looked at them wrong.

Oldman's Gordon. He is more involved i nthe story.
Hingle's Gordon was just written the way he end up in the pervious franchise.

1. Gary Oldman - Batman Begins, The Dark Knight
2. Bob Hastings - Batman : The Animated Series & The DCAU

Oldman all the way, though I like Hingle too, I just wish he had more to do as the character in the FOUR films he was in as Gordon.

This thread is silly to me haha, Oldman all the way.

Interesting inclusion of TAS Gordon as well, I like pretty much every character incarnation in TAS.

Was that Michael J. Fox?:oldrazz:

Looks like Steve Guttenberg.

I prefer Oldman but Hingle was good too. A bit like Alfred really. Prefer Caine by a mile but the guy who plays him (can't remember his name) was really good too.

Oldman of course.

Gordon in the older films was unimportant and had jack all to do. Oldman's Gordon, however, is everything I imagine Gardon to be.

Most definately a no-brainer.

Oldman any day of the week.

Pat Hingle was good in the B'89 but I was never that interested in Gordon as a kid until I read him in 'Year:One'.

The fact that Oldman's Gordon reminds me more of that version is the clincher for me.

Pat Hingle was fine as an ageing police chief kind of guy (until he was reduced to a buffoon in the Schumacher films). Gordon was little more than a prop.

As it has been already said, there is no contest. Gary Oldman simply rocks with a mustache! :) (And he's actually one of the key players, like he is in some of the best Batman comics e.g. Year One and Long Halloween)

Indeed he does.

And to think that Chris Cooper turned down the role. He undoubtedly wouldve been good but still..................

Sometimes these things just happen for the best, eh?

Why is this thread silly? Some people like other versions better than Oldman's, its obvious that different people will have their own opinions on what they like.

It wouldnt have been that way if he had a better direction from the script and director, you cant blame Hingle performance for what he was given.

Chris Cooper? I'm sure he would be fine and that he feels somewhat sorry now for rejecting the role, it would be a nice career move for him...

...but Gary Oldman... for me at least, it adds to the part that it's Gary Oldman himself, an actor famous for mostly playing insane (or evil) characters in the past, from Sid Vicious to Count Dracula, and now he's the epitome of the good guy.

EDIT: I can't imagine Pat Hingle of 1988-89 as a man of action. If Gordon in 1989 was a key player that helps Batman, he would be played by someone younger. I see your point, though, Gordon wasn't part of the story, and Hingle was a fine presence with the few things he had to do.

Yeah, Oldman even says in interviews that he's tired of playing the maniac.

He likes playing Gordon because he's a good person.
