8 Harry Potter movies have been released from 2001-2011. it has become one of the highest grossing movie franchises of all time and has gotten extremely positive reviews. The Harry Potter movie franchise is based off the extremely successful series of books by JK Rowling. Which Harry Potter Movie is your favorite?

Prisoner of Azkaban was the only one I really liked, so I guess that.

I mildly enjoyed most of them (never held a candle to the books, imo), but Azkaban I loved.

Another vote to Azkaban , though I echo flickchick's sentiments about none of them holding a candle to the book.

To be clear, I didn't hate the rest of them or anything, Azkaban is just the one that really stands out to me.

PoA is the best film, and I adore it. But I also adore OotP and find it incredibly underrated. But in the end I enjoy all the films, even HBP.

I find the difference between the films and the books interesting. I actually prefer how the films tell the story on the whole. I just wish they had put a bit more of the books in each film. There are some classic scenes and storylines that really should have been integrated imo. Films like OotP or GoF should be much closer to 3 hours.

PoA? Wow, that's the one I liked the least.

I went for the first movie, it just felt the most magical of them all.

I voted for Prisoner of Azakaban but I also loved Deathly Hallows Part 2.

CoS

For me it was the closest to the book and I thought the climax was excellent. From a pure movie point of view (direction, cinematography) PoA is the best movie but CoS is my favourite.

Chamber of Secrets will always be my favorite...but I do love Azkaban and Deathly Hallows Part 2 (heck I love all of them)

I had a rather sigificant change of heart in 2014 in regards to my preference of the films.

Deathly Hallows Part 1
Prisoner of Azkaban
Goblet of Fire
Deathly Hallows Part 2
Philosopher's Stone
Order of the Phoenix
Half Blood Prince
Chaminer of Secrets

Chamber of Secrets is the only one I have trouble rewatching. It bores the ever loving crap out of me and has all the urgency and suspense of a home and garden magazine. That film needed someone like Cauron who wasnt afraid to pull out the sheers and cut things and change things for the sake of cinema. It needed a director who gets suspense and thrillers. Columbus just wasnt that guy. The film plods. Its a slave to the book and lacks suspense or any sense of dread. The fear of the monster thats somehow moving through the school is nonexist in the film when an attack isnt happening. In the book however there is at least a constant fear and uneasiness amongst the students that at any moment they could be attacked. But I know the film has its fans and I used to be one when I was 12, but as Ive gotten older and my views on cinema and its style have broadened the film's deficiencies are very hard to ignore.

Hallows Part II
Hallows Part I
Goblet of Fire
Prisoner of Azkaban
The Half-Blood Prince
The Order of the Phoenix
The Philosopher's Stone
The Chamber of Secrets

Marvolo's spot-on with his critique of Chamber.

Deathly Hallows part 1 is my favourite. I love how bleak, dark and hopeless it is. It really works as a metaphor for having to grow up. It's a nice change of pace to not have them in Hogwarts also. It's shot really well and I think the performances are the best in the series.

Goblet of Fire
Prisoner of Azkaban
Sorcerers Stone
Deathly Hallows Part 2
Half Blood Prince
Deathly Hallows Part 1
Chamber of Secrets
Order of the Phoenix

I enjoy them all but there are some I enjoy more then others.

Here's a question for all the Harry Potter fans. Who is the better Dumbledore?

Well aside from a certain infamous scene in GoF, I preferred Gambon. He had that kooky energy that I felt Harris was missing, and I loved his dry humor. I know it was for good reason, but Harris also just seemed a bit too frail for Dumbledore to me. I couldn't imagine him taking on Voldemort in OotP, for example.

It depends on the film:

Half Blood Prince Dumbledore is perfect. The look and personality is spot on.

Kooky POA Dumbledore is a lot of fun.

Philosopher's Stone Dumbledore really cemented the character into my 11 year old mind.

Chamber of Secrets Dumbledore was just too frail, but it gets a pass because of Richard Harris's unfortunate health at the time of production.

Order of the Phoenix Dumbledore was still having anger issues, but his duel was awesome.

Goblet of Fire Dumbledore is just an abomination. He lacks the cool calm demeanor of book Dumbledore and doesnt exude the wisdom of book Dumbledore. When something doesnt go right or he gets caught off guard or pretty much any time anything happens GOF Dumbledore's solution is to shout, manhandle, or behave like an angry old man. Dumbledore should never have yelled. Thats just not what he does. He gets angry but he doesnt shout and manhandle his students. Michael Gambon would have known this if he had read the books.

Sincerely, what do you guys like about PoA?

I don't hate it, but numerous things bug me:

Plot holes, like how Sirius knew about the Marauders map
The "grim" sign in the sky when the grim never really existed
The out-of-context singing of "something wicked this way comes" at the grand feast. Why would the school sing that???
Flitwick's sudden Hitler haircut
Michael Gambon's lack of cool demeanor (he did bring it in HBP)
The lack of explanation about the stag patronus

I really will never understand why everyone loved PoA. I hated it.

While I count the last one as one film, I remember being a kid and being so hyped up for CoS. But PoA was a huge letdown for me.

It is a great adaptation of the story and by far the most visually interesting of the series. The cinematography, editing, and pacing are all top notch and the best of the series. It also contains some rather strong performances and the best score in the series by quite a margin. Which is saying something because Williams topped himself after the incredible quality he brought in the first film.

It doesn't hurt that it is adaptation of the best book. :yay:

There is actually a good behind the scenes explanation for Flitwicks change of appearance. Cauron or Heyman (cant remember which one) knew Flitwick wouldnt be in the POA film but they really liked Davis and so they offered Warrick Davis the role of the "Choir Director" as a little chameo and thats all that character was. The choir director. Thats the character's official credited name.

However when Newell came on for GOF he had to choose to go back to Flitwick of PS/COS with all its makeup, prosthetics and unruly wig or make the more simple Choir Director from POA into the new Flitwick. Newell chose the Choir Director look because he prefers less makeup and prosthetics on his actors. So with that decision the choir director from POA became Flitwick in GOF and retroactively in POA. But Flitwick wasnt actually in POA. That character was credited as Choir Director in POA not Flitwick.:)
