The Hulk is one of Marvel`s oldest characters. He`s loved and respected by fans the world over. What`s your favorite comic story that the Hulk was involved in?

:thing:

i havnt read too many...

I really liked the Absorbing Man storyline where he could go into other peoples bodys from his cell where he was being locked up. I havent read any hulk book past that.

I also recently just bought the first Bruce Jones HC, and i was really dissapointed....

Most were with Jones's run. Thankfully Pak has redeemed all that with Planet:Hulk.

Planet Hulk and The Ultimates V1 and 2 for me.

When you think about, anyone looking for a good Cap,Thor,Iron Man or Hulk story can pretty much pick up The Ultimates.

Incredible Hulk #227. My favorite of all time.

Incredible Hulk #227. My favorite of all time.

Was that a story involving Doc Samson, possibly taking place in the Hulk's mind? Good one.

There are so many great Hulk stories...I'm gonna have to go with the Hulk-Hunter saga from TIH #269-270

Why, you ask? Several Reasons:

  1. Bill Mantlo wrote it
  2. Sal Buscema pencilled and inked
  3. The story had all kinds of classic (even back then) Hulk elements - The status quo was, Rick and Betty were staying with Hulk in Banner's old lab from waaaay back (with the vault that Banner went into every night during the original 6 issues)
  4. unused characters Torgo (from an old FF comic I remember reading at my grandparents' house), Amphibion - who I always thought was pretty cool, and Dark-Crawler (previously called Night-Crawler) showed up, first to fight Hulk, then to ask for his help
  5. Abomination was the Big Bad, and Hulk showed him who was the strongest one there is
  6. It was an issue from the only comic subscription I ever had
  7. It happened to be the last appearance of Savage Hulk

Good times!

thats really gonna be hard but off the top of my head,The End
it was simply amazing, and the ending was great

I enjoyed the stories from the 70's and 80's when the Hulk was the real Hulk. You know "Hulk smash" the whole deal. The old Hulk didn't bleed so easily either. He'd cream the modern version. The old Hulk just would never stop coming till he smashed.

As written by Len Wein and/or Bill Mantlo? With pencils by Sal Buscema?

Yes indeed; that was the best version EVER. :hulk:

Is Future Imperfect available in a TBP? Because I've always wanted to read that story, I've heard it's very good.

Well Planet Hulk and Future might be good, but what I really want to read are those Buscema Mantlo Hulk issues because of the above reasons. I really want to read those because they seem to have captured the more essential Hulk aspects and status quo.

Can anyone tell me if there are collections of these stories? I have a feeling these issues might propel the Hulk into my top 5 fave marvel characters the way Stan Lee's Essential Spider-man volumes, Brubaker's Cap run, Miller and Bendis' Daredevil run, and Brubaker's Iron Fist current run made those characters my favorites!

Are the four volumes of Essential Hulk really that essential that it will make me a Hulk fan the way essential spider-man and essential fantastic four made me fans of those characters? Please some answers!
Please make me a bigger Hulk fan!

Well I'd say some of his best stories are: "Ghost of the Future," "Planet HULK," "HULK:The End," "Island Getaway," "Reconciliations," "College Daze," "Of All Sad Words... " "Always On My Mind," "Enemy Mine" and "Peace in Our Time" was very good.

Though "WWH" looks like it might be up there once it's done.

It is..but wait! Marvel is releasing a hardcover soon which will have both Hulk: The End and Future Imperfect...two of the best Hulk stories EVER. That is going to be a keeper.

you folks that are claiming some of the recent stuff like Planet Hulk (which I just read) need to go back and read some older stuff.

Try out Ground Zero, The Crossroads Saga (kills Planet Hulk IMO), and anything written by Mantlo and drawn by Sal Buscema...that's classic Savage Hulk's best team...period.

The thing Planet Hulk was missing for me was a struggle between Banner and the Hulk. That's the crux of the Hulk for me.

Rather than purchasing the Essentials, I'd recommend buying the complete collection on DVD-rom.

Planet Hulk is my all time favorite Hulk story at the moment. WWH is a close second. After that I would say Future: Imperfect rocks, along with a few story lines from PAD in the early to mid 90's.

Crossroads was great, Ground Zero, not so much. Planet HULK killed them both. I got so fricken tired of Bruce Jones run which had nothing but HULK/Banner struggle. We saw the HULK about .5 times an issue. Planet HULK was such a breath of fresh air.

Wow. You're an idiot of a whole new kind.
